Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

In the end, the filmmakers have given us one of the most fun movie-going experiences I’ve had this year. Huge kudos go to Johnson, Hart and especially Black for providing some truly entertaining performances for kids of all ages.

A tremendous improvement over the tepid 1995 original, this quasi-sequel brings humor, fun performances, and a canny understanding of late 1990s-style video games to a party that never takes itself seriously.

This sequel turns out to be a comedy of manners, of all things, and an agreeable one, a movie that will get you laughing and suck you in.

Black is expectedly hilarious, but the beauty part of his performance is that, instead of exaggerating or patronizing this Instagram princess, he finds her vulnerable heart.

The adventure rides on the charisma of the ensemble, who milk the body-switching situation for all it is worth.

If you’re willing to lean into the movie’s complete and utter stupidity, Jumanji might just stumble through its languorous two-hour runtime on sheer charm.

Who’s the audience for this movie? It’s not smart, scary or funny enough for adults and older teens, and it’s inappropriate for young kids.

This movie is a masterpiece for playing with cliches, tropes and stereotypes of video games, action movies and characters. It is entertaining and nearly all jokes work perfect. The cast is amazing. They play characters inside other characters (avatars) that are their pure opposite from real life. Each one is believable at any moment and they develop within the story (Hero's journey). I can only praise the whole team for this movie. Everything fits perfect together. The tropes and stereotypes are parodied nearly perfect. Overall this was the most surprising movie I have seen this year and I have watched it again with my friends which agree with me in every point. Bonus: If you have the DVD with extras watch the alternative title song.

Pleasant film with a simple but well developed and entertaining story. The parallel between real characters and the video game is well developed and contributes to making the protagonists' story enjoyable.

A big budget, mainstream action/comedy from Hollywood that follows all the usual tropes. Entertaining enough but not that memorable.

Great cast and some decent special effects, but the movie's script falls completely flat. Most of the scenes don't lead into each other in any meaningful way, characters don't make any decisions at all(rather the game decides for them), and the story proceeds in a completely predictable fashion. Return the macguffin, avoid the obstacles. Without a meaningful villain or any genuine character motivations, the movie ends up feeling like two hours of filler. If it wasn't for the charismatic cast this probably would have put me to sleep. Would rather watch someone play a video game.

I've never hated all the characters in a film before this one. Wow. They're so dumb. So vapid. So narcissistic. It makes the movie worse than it could have been had the characters had any meaningfully redeemable qualities in them.
