It’s a smart comedy that points out the flaws of all aspects of the United State’s political landscape. It discusses how bad the division is in our country and how the media and politicians are complicit in this division. It’s a problem for both sides of the aisle that needs to be addressed before any real change can be made.

I had some doubts about this movie, based on the readings it made me question renting it. I love Steve Carell and I thought no matter what he can carry the movie at the very least. I really enjoyed it I loved it, and I would recommend it especially before the election that’s coming up. It is written and directed by Jon Stewart and very timely.

If you are a normal individual with untainted political paranoia, you will enjoy the film. If you are radical right or left, especially left, you may want to pass. See condescending dribble written in the Guardian.

The final impression is of a thesis only partially expanded into satisfactory dramedy, but, thanks to casting in depth and good writing on a line-by-line basis, Irresistible never feels like a chore.

Its preference is for plucking the lowest hanging fruit and, more urgently, letting its own audience off the hook. Though Irresistible occasionally lands a point—a soul surfaces briefly, thanks to Cooper—the movie ultimately doesn’t have the guts to be the movie it needs to be.

When the wisdom being imparted is this conventional, you better find a dramatically or comedically satisfying way to package it. Stewart hasn’t.

Even worse, Deerlaken, Wis., is supposed to be the “real” America, but Stewart has little interest in depicting an honest version of Midwesterners, or their problems. No actual issues that affect the town are discussed. (I have no idea what the economy of the town is, if people are struggling or what.)

I don’t get the reviews, there isn’t much out there that is like this movie. My guess is that most of the really negative reviews are from people who actually don’t see the flaws in our system and buy into partisan politics. Which I think is kind of the point. Great cast and well done Mr Stewart.

Had its moments, interesting ending, but overall, I didn't enjoy this film even though it had the legendary Steve Carrell in it which is why I wanted to watch it in the first place.

I was a big fan of Jon Stewart on The Daily Show (still enjoy Trevor Noah). This film (which Stewart wrote and directed) echoes his occasional rants about the foibles in our government. Steve Carell plays a Democratic Party consultant, who travels to small town to help a reluctant man (Chris Cooper) run for mayor. The idea is that this victory will help the party win back the Heartland. While the premise had potential, the results are sadly lacking. Carrell provides the only funny moments and many of those are his cruel and condescending reactions to the small town folk. Rose Byrne’s equally haughty conservative only adds some fab wardrobe to the affair. The opportunity to ramp up comedy thru quirky supporting characters is completely lost. Stewart does keep the pace moving and enjoys his political observations, but his insistence on didactic lectures gets in the way of good storytelling. Essentially, this is a lesson about what’s wrong with our election system that’s played out in a long fable.
Interestingly, Stewart actually reverts to his TV days by ending the credits with his interview of an elections official.

This is a terrible movie that has no idea where it wants to go and has zero respect for the aurdience's time. The best advice I can offer you is to go to a spoiler type of review and get the full info on the movie's ending before you watch it. It is that bad.

Stewart is a brilliant show host and comedian but a TERRIBLE Director. Ive seen his 2 movies he directed and they are both AWFUL. Stewart doesnt klnow how to direct, period. This movie is beyond bad and the plot doesnt even make sense.
