Inside Out 2

Like sequels of beloved movies, puberty can either be terrific, passable or really suck. So, while Riley, the lead character in Pixar’s Inside Out, has a rough-ish start to adolescence, the sequel Inside Out 2 — I’m relieved to say — is terrific.

Kelsey Mann was able to expand on what seemed like a complete story in the original film and tell a new and potent one, and that’s impressive and commendable even though — like many Pixar films — it falls apart in the details.

There is, as there was in the first film, a profound sadness at the heart of Inside Out 2.

Laughs are few and far between here, but a movie about the emotional RED ALERT that heralds puberty is bound to produce a few.

Its borderline-necessary messaging doesn't render it completely invulnerable, but should Pixar be up to it, they've earned an 'Inside Out 3'.

Inside Out 2 can surely be used by parents as a teaching tool if a kid ever spirals into a freak-out before entering a new school or having a big audition. But even with the antic animation, a funny dig at Blue's Clues, and a color palette resembling an exploded box of Trix cereal, the movie suffers from a bit of a do-your-homework vibe.

Here we have another spreadsheet of a movie that conceives of the human mind with the vision of a digital artist and the ethos of a corporate accountant; a film so mercilessly “relatable” that only a chatbot could ever hope to see themselves in it.

"Inside Out 2" brings back the charming emotions from the original, but struggles to capture the same magic. The emotional highs aren't as impactful, and the plot lacks the freshness that made the original so memorable. While there are moments of genuine emotional depth, much of the story follows predictable beats, and the humor, though charming, doesn't quite hit the mark as often.Visually, "Inside Out 2" is stunning, with vibrant animation and creative designs for the emotional characters. The voice acting is also top-notch, bringing life to the characters in a way that keeps the audience **** the end, "Inside Out 2" is a decent follow-up, but it falls short of the emotional resonance and originality that made the first film a standout. Fans of the original will find enjoyment in revisiting these characters, but it might not leave as lasting an impression this time around.
