There is an intentionality here that is overwhelmingly optimistic while also insisting on acknowledging all of the troubles of our current moment. And while this does not always mix well with some of the slapstick, the alchemy is ultimately fulfilling.

Because of the movie’s uneven story and characters, it’s a bumpy ride no matter which route you take.

There’s much to like about the road-trip comedy Half Brothers. It’s funny, smart, topical and even touching at times. But it’s hard to overcome the inescapable rot at its center.

It’s a slick film that’s forgettable at best, annoyingly broad and unfunny at worst.

With way too many tonal shifts and a narrative that trades cohesion for caprice, the film feels like riding shotgun with a toddler attempting to drive a manual transmission.

The movie clearly intends to send a serious message about how draconian immigration policies tear families apart. But a hard-hitting drama would be preferable to this strenuously wacky bromance.

“Half Brothers” is half amazing So, I just finished this film last night and I loved the message it was trying to send, half Brothers is a road tripBromance movie that sends two brothers on a road trip tracing the path their father took as an immigrant from Mexico to learn about his story and hardships in a new country. When the Economy crashes Flavio (Juan Pablo Espinosa), flees to America and never returns, leaving his son to grow up without a father. The now grown-up Renato (Luis Gerardo Méndez) gets a call from his dying father’s new wife and it brings his rage to the surface, and when he goes to America to say his goodbyes, he instead learns he has a half brother, Asher (Connor Del Rio), and now has to solve his father’s riddle to find out the truth behind his life’s story. While the message of the film is beautiful, unfortunately, that message is tarnished by the unbalanced story, while the film is funny, even hilarious at times, it takes away from the main message this film is trying to send. I wish we could have just seen Flavio’s (Juan Pablo Espinosa) story I feel like the Two brothers going on a road trip was a creative but worse way of telling their father’s story, but even with all of that said I would still recommend this movie to my family and friends who like comedy and Drama. Even though this film does not fully come across as a Drama there are still moments that tug the heartstrings! ️️️

Total and absolute nonsense from the outset. Awful script, annoying dislikable characters and terrible performances although the dad was good so he got one of the two stars and the goat got the other. Whoever gave this the nod should be bagged. One of the worst films I've ever seen.

A shameful attempt at comedy that tries to talk a bit about immigration, but ends up being a mediocre story saturated with stereotypes. Insipid and completely insubstantial.
