This Movie reminds me of Black Ops 2 The Atmosphere is Phenomenal And the Cinematography is so iconic

The sound design and music in *Godzilla* really stand out. Every roar, explosion, and moment of silence hits perfectly. The score adds so much weight to the action — it makes the battles feel huge and emotional. You can actually feel the size and power of the monsters just through the sound alone, which makes the whole experience way more intense and cinematic.

Greetings from Lithuania. "Godzilla" (2014) directed by Gareth Edwards is an epic movie. I've enjoyed it tremendously way back in 2014 when watching it on a big screen, and enjoyed it since then few times when rewatching it at home. In my opinion, "Godzilla" is an epic film that features the famous monster, but it also shows what would happen and how people would react to something like this. It focuses on more then few characters, and i enjoyed their simple but effective characterization. Given the outstanding cast, they all bring the gravitas to their scenes. On the visual side of things, with a budget 160 million dollars, this film is visual feast. It doesn't have many monster fight sequences, but it has a lot of terrific sets and its design is jaw dropping. Cinematography was gorgeous in this film. It features more then few locations around the globe, and they all felt distinguish and superbly filmed. As for the "King of Monsters" himself, one won't see main beast for long time, and all battles and fights were created at night or at the dawn, but it doesn't look cheap rater it looks haunting and stunning. I'm glad i watched it on the big screen in 3D back in 2014, Surprisingly in home cinema on UHD format this film looked just the way i remember it looking in cinema. Special effects and especially sound effects were really good, and sometimes haunting. Overall, "Godzilla" (2014) in my opinion is amazing film. Its an epic film in every way, and one should appreciate its production values and very well crafted storytelling. At running time 1 h 50 min I'm recommending it to all who want's to see good monster movie, with some truly haunting images. If you saw the first film of this director ("Monsters"), you'll know what i mean.

The first, good American Godzilla movie. I like the director's way of building up the monster's scenes until the final fight, where we get a full view of Godzilla in all his glory. Despite the mumblings of those who felt there was too much human character development, the movie needed that, as stakes for them contribute to the overall storyline. This is still my favorite movie in the Monsterverse!

There was too much shaky camera and watching in 3D doesn’t add anything except some of the kaiju shots later in the movie. This is a high quality production but Godzilla only shows up half-way through and it feels like a very long film as it’s over 2 hours but still not as long as the previous American Godzilla film. The effects are really excellent with great destruction when it happens, but it’s so infrequent and only shown briefly. It’s a shame that they start fighting or start destroying then cut away to people skydiving or wandering through rubble almost immediately missing all the kaiju action. I get that they wanted to show it from the human’s perspective and that’s why they cut away from the best of the monster action but if they were committed to that approach then why so many high angles? These kaiju look so much better from low angles, it gives them more scale. At least most of it was set at night where the kaiju look better. The characters are dull except Bryan Cranston but he’s barely in the film. It’s mostly entertaining but not fun. I think it would have been good if there was way more city smashing and monster fighting. What we did get was good though. Visually it’s a hell of a lot better than Godzilla (1998) but actually less enjoyable overall.

The opening credits are just... someone had way to much fun. The typography with the montage of historical clips sets the perfect tone. The concept lent itself to some striking cinematography, but the film missed out on a lot of those opportunities. The shining moment for visuals was the base jumping with the red smoke flares, the iconic shot from the posters. I wanted more of that. Not actually a lot of focus on Godzilla himself, there was no character development for anyone except the husband and wife trying to get back to each other, which is something. The scientist roles were flat and dry as cardboard. Watanabe just stared wide eyed at everything the whole film, which he's good at haha, but I needed more with that. This would have been a great opportunity to really establish Monarch as an organization, and the development of the org in Kong: Skull Island would hit much harder. But it's overlooked in the script. Taylor-Johnson carries the whole film, and might have a bit too much screentime. This is GODZILLA after all... but he's cool. The destruction felt overwhelming without more of a focus on Godzilla. It leans almost toward... some sort of documentary news horror without a strong story... There was more focus for the Motus. They were well designed and formidable enemies for Godzilla. The film just spends too much time leading up to the Godzilla reveal. The whole first act with Cranston though... man, that was good. The father son conflict added a perfect layer of depth to the story, but it ends prematurely with the father's death. Not a great story choice. The son also doesn't even mention it but once the whole rest of the film. His only purpose was to get Ford to Japan, but they should have killed him off with the mother in the first sequence. After watching Kong: Skull Island, I had high expectations. Interestingly, Godzilla was the first film, followed by Kong, but chronologically Kong happens first, so that’s the film I started with.

It’s a fine movie, I just wish there was more Godzilla and less human drama. Every time things start to get good, they turn the camera away or jump to the next scene; I can't tell you how many times I said “aww, come on!” to the film. The parts that actually did have Godzilla were cool. It’s fine to watch once, any additional viewing, just fast forward through the human parts and to the kaiju fights.

In a lot of ways, the Roland Emmerich Godzilla is a perfect example of '90s popular cinema, for better and for worse, and I think we'll feel the same about this one in about fifteen years' time. It's dark, gritty and menacing, often to a fault. The screen is awash with grays and browns. The important CG moments are impressive and generally perform well, but they're still quite obviously digital set pieces and feel unnatural. I did find a lot more to appreciate in the tone of Godzilla '14 than in its 1998 cousin, especially in the strong admiration for the Toho source material it wears on its sleeve. In terms of focus, this could've passed for one of Japan's own: the screen spends far more time hovering around the human components than the monster, who's largely relegated to a cameo role. Those civilians are universal retreads, though, only vaguely interesting at their best moments. For the most part it's a very bland movie, slogging through a repetitive plot that had me checking my watch on the regular. The monster fisticuffs are cool, even if the impact of familiar skylines being toppled has lost some edge in the wake of Man of Steel, Pacific Rim and The Avengers, but even these are often tossed aside as afterthoughts. I lost count of how many times the screen cut away just as the king of monsters got his paws on an equally-oversized freak. Clearly it was a conscious decision to keep our eyes on the huddled masses, but that makes for a tough contradiction; artistic, yes; rewarding, no. The HALO jump seen in an early teaser trailer is probably the only thing I'll remember in a few months. Much less enthusiastic a revival than I was hoping for.

After Roland Emmerich's disaster, Hollywood tasked Gareth Edwards with bringing Japan's infamous giant lizard west. The result is far more dignified, but ultimately also unsuccessful. With a woefully underwritten cast of robots, the human elements of this adaptation are deeply lacking. However, while the movie clearly had loftier goals set for itself, there is still just enough visually exciting monster-on-monster action to make it at times dumb fun.

We all know this plot is mediocre, but damn, this film is truly beautiful. The top-tier HDR implementation and good photography made me love this movie. The scenes at night are delightful. Highly recommended for OLED and home-theater enthusiasts. Also, Bryan Cranston just nails it every time, dude. He's just amazing.

pretty decent. good plot. cool monster designs. good action. I kinda wish there was more monsters though. Especially Godzilla. and yes I know the sequels also don't have to much godzilla. BUT! in king of the monsters there was mothera, Ghidora, the fire bird (I forgot the name lol). and Godzilla vs. Kong had a bunch of Kong. in this movieI feel like there is just a bit too much filler in the middle. the problem isn't even the fact that it focuses on the people. its the fact that it sometimes its a bit too bland but also to much. good but not that great. Mutos are cool tho.

Movie its terrible, they dont explain anything anywhere during the entire film, and 90% of the scenes are dark as the night, so its impossible to follow along what they are trying to do. Godzilla appears like 5 minutes during this 2 hours disaster, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the worst actor I have ever seen in a main role.

Godzilla is great in this film. Every scene that shows him is stellar. But unfortunately, Godzilla lacks many screen time. What could have been dark, gritty fun turns into dark, gritty human drama with a hint of Godzilla. And the human characters themselves are not terrible, but they could be better. Not just that, but this film is dark, literally. Most scenes that feature the monsters are shot in night. So while it's not a bad film by any means, there's quite a bit done wrong.

After waiting for a couple of the newer movies to come out, it makes sense that they did not make this an origin story for Godzilla. But, in my opinion, they should have made it one. I'm not really interested in getting an origin story for humans that won't even be in the next movies lol. I want an origin story about the mythology of Godzilla and the titans. I think it would have been really cool to go into all the different mythologies of the titans and set up this crazy monster universe... While this was disappointing, the action and acting were pretty good. The visuals were amazing and so was the music.

The real disaster in form of the timeless-classic "GODZILLA". Beside the meh script, Gareth Edwards visualized Godzilla in the most realistic yet cinematic EPIC like no other ever achieved!!

Maybe a good movie? If you could actually see what was happening. The filming is always to dark and you can barley see what is happening.

I realise this is a movie for the pre pubescent set but it really stretches credulity even so. What does this monster, roughly the size of a 20 story building do for the rest of the time it is not fighting other monsters, yeah, the ones that eat radioactive **** My ten year old was excited over the movie but I was anything but.

6/10 Weakest Monsterverse movie easily. But it is still... fine. (Nevermind, 0/10. barely any Godzilla.)

My friend is a huge fan of kaiju movies. He showed me the trailer of Godzilla: King of the Monsters when it first came. I was so much filled with awe, I decided to watch all the movies in Monsterverse. This was the first one, and the very reason why I got interested in this cinematic universe. I did watch a couple of other Godzilla movies and saw how this is different, since this movie has so many negative reviews compared to them. But turns out this is still good. The thing which struck me about this movie which makes it different from other kaiju movies is what made me like it so much. This movie shows Godzilla from the humans' eye view. Because of this it shows the intensity of Godzilla's movement. You can actually feel his weight every time he walks, runs, growls or uses his atomic breath. Every time he moves dust falls out of his body, which is probably how insects also see us. My favourite scene was the one where some people are in a casino and it is being shown on TV that Godzilla is coming. Suddenly the power goes off and then the roof comes off. The two MUTOs are also way better monsters than the Skullcrawlers or the ones from King of the Monsters. Unlike them, here we get to see exactly what their motivation is and what is at stakes here. They would lay their eggs and populate earth, destroying all the small life. Unlike King Ghidorah or Rodan, there are both male and female MUTOs who can lay millions of eggs which will make their work spread for centuries. This is more in likes to Skullcrawlers except it would be the whole world instead of one island. People here are complaining about how much screen time is given to talking and army instead of the monsters. But this isn't a problem actually. To show such a realistic kaiju movie we would require a boat load of money. The thing is, the showing should not be inconsistent, something which ruined King of the Monsters. When the monster fight is shown, it's shown. It does not cut back to the humans until the fight is finally over. After that Godzilla just wakes up and walks into the sea. Godzilla is a fresh take on something we have seen many times before, except with a different point of view. It's nice to see monsters from a human's eyes. It's like all the fantasies I dreamt of as a kid with extinct animals. I really wish this franchise becomes super successful in the future.

The world is beset by the appearance of monstrous creatures, but one of them may be the only one who can save humanity. (6)

Most awesome film I’ve watched that year. One of the best films of my childhood and of all time.

Biggest criticism: not enough Godzilla. My Rating: 5.1 out of 10 or 51% fresh.

The director and scriptwriter were absolute morons. A 2 hr Godzila movie where Godzilla gets about 10 mins of screentime. They cut away from the first encounter between godzilla and the other montster to show a kid watching it happen on TV. Whomever thought this plot was a good idea needs his head examined.

Not gonna lie, I was very surprised with this film and the level of quality it had. Yes, Godzilla doesn't appear until 40 minutes, Yes, the final battle is hard to see, Yes, the film focuses mostly on humans, these are all valid complaints, but this film had a very compelling story and good acting from really everyone the tension building in it works really well. The mystery behind Godzilla is one of the reasons why I love this film so much, definitely recommend

Godzilla (2014) created an incredibly realistic environment that I missed with the mass futurism picked up in the later movies. I felt the monsters were quite unoriginal and very generic. The story felt the most realistic out of the others and many minute details such as Godzilla's breath were the best we've seen.

There's more plot here than I was expecting, but also a lot of futile action which depending on what you're looking for can be frustrating. It's a pretty good crash bang monster flick but I wish the antagonist monsters looked a little cooler.

Godzilla is the kaiju flick I dreamed of as a child. A dark re-imagining of the movie monster. A perfect mix of gritty & fantastical. Realistic & God-Like. Gareth Edward's 2014 Godzilla Film does what it needs to, capture audiences with it's stunning CGI work of the monsters on screen and give the human characters enough emotion and motivation they need to make them enjoyable to watch as their own plot lines play out and intertwine with the monsters. The biggest let down of this movie is the screen time the title character himself gets. With a shockingly low 10 Minutes of screen time, you leave wanting more of the giant kaiju, wishing he had more time to shine. The only upside to this is that the movie's pacing masks the disappointing screen time, having a "Jaws-Like" effect of hiding the monster. With all this said, the climactic final battle is an insanely rewarding fight to watch play out, and makes you feel like you got what you wanted out of this film. The proper Hollywood rendition of Godzilla.

Godzilla 2014 makes up for the sin that was the 1998 "adaptation", but on its own merits isn't a much better film. Perhaps to be expected from a first outing, G14 only gingerly dips its toes into the water and plays everything thoroughly, almost laughably safe. Little of the series' Japanese and sci-fi/fantasy roots are allowed to show, replaced instead with all the typical tropes and trappings of a typical Hollywood blockbuster. A common complaint is that the titular kaiju doesn't show up enough, but in the movie's defense this is not true- Godzilla has no less screentime than in the average Japanese feature and as a character is treated with greater fanfare and respect than literally anything else in the film. The real problem is that the human protagonist (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is painfully ill-equipped to carry this story. His character is wooden and boring at best, showing almost no emotion whatsoever, and his supposedly "heroic" actions endanger the lives of his loved ones and brothers in arms so often it's hard to think of him as anything but delusional. Compounding the problem is that the film's handling of the monsters seems just as confused as the hero: the new MUTO beasts are portrayed as dangerous but not evil, acting more like misplaced animals than villains, and are even given some tender moments to demonstrate their emotional range and capacity for love... yet in the end Godzilla and the human hero inexplicably treat them with excessive, gory malice, as if the audience were meant to hate them all along and cheer at their demise. Regardless of what you feel towards them, none of the three monster characters are given much chance to leave an impression visually. The film seems outright hesitant to show them for any longer than a few seconds at a time, frequently cutting away to random civilians or Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character just as the action starts to pick up. When they do get the screen they're usually shrouded in thick smoke and darkness, probably why so many movie-goers felt they hardly saw Godzilla despite the number of scenes he was in. The end result is a bleak, generic, and surprisingly boring film.

In anticipation of Godzilla vs Kong, I've decided to rewatch all the previous Monsterverse movies. I've watched this when it first came out in Cinemas and I came out slightly disappointed. Now that I decided to finally rewatch it after 7 years, I wonder if my opinions will change or not? The premise is "Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a Navy bomb expert, has just reunited with his family in San Francisco when he is forced to go to Japan to help his estranged father, Joe (Bryan Cranston). Soon, both men are swept up in an escalating crisis when Godzilla, King of the Monsters, arises from the sea to combat malevolent adversaries that threaten the survival of humanity. The creatures leave colossal destruction in their wake, as they make their way toward their final battleground: San Francisco". So is it actually better than I thought or is still as disappointing as I remember it? Firstly, I actually really like the tone of this movie. After watching all the new Monsterverse movies and now going back, I think the serious and grounded nature are wonderful. It shows these Titans from the perspective of humans and makes them seem more fearsome and majestic. The original Japanese Godzilla portrayed the titular character as a force of nature and Gareth Evans (the director) perfectly captures this as well. I also really like the cinematography by Seamus McGarvey. The more tame colours really work in the movies favour by really giving it a war-like and disaster style feel to the movie. Additionally, there are some gorgeous shots in the movie and some stunning visual spectacles. The score by Alexandre Desplat is actually pretty good and at some parts such as the HALO jump is where the score really stands out. The final climax is also very thrilling to watch even though it is kind of dark though. The biggest complaint I had with this movie is the severe lack of Godzilla. He is the titular character but is barely even in it. Heck, the villain monster, the MUTOs, appear more than him. I think what is really jarring is that when Godzilla appears they then cutaway to something else. For example, when Godzilla arrives near the airport and about to fight a MUTO but it then cutaways to some boring human characters who see it on TV. It felt quite insulting that they wouldn't show these fights and instead just telling us the conclusion from some human characters. I was screaming internally throughout the movie, "Let Them Fight". On that note, the human characters really ****. I think all the actors do a fine job although Aaron Taylor-Johnson who plays the main lead, Ford Brody, is quite lacking in a lot of personality in most of his scenes. Not entirely his fault as the character is written to be quite boring. Elle Brody (Elizabeth Olsen) is just playing the trope of wife and mother character, Dr. Ishirō Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) is a monster expert, Dr. Vivienne Graham (Sally Hawkins) is monster expert right-hand person. This is literally their personality and nothing else which makes all the characters very uninteresting. There is one interesting character Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) who is the father of the main lead who also lost his wife due to unusual seismic activity and is trying to determine the cause of the meltdown that killed his wife. This screams main character as there is a backstory that is making us root for him. Plus he is played phenomenally by Bryan in every scene. However, they decide to kill him 30 minutes into the movie and replace him with his boring son. What a waste of a character and there was no real reason to kill him so early. Overall, it's an all right movie. I don't agree with a lot of the decisions made in terms of story and characters but it nails the tone, atmosphere and visuals completely. It's a good monster movie and also a good start to the "Monsterverse".

Great movie just needed more Godzilla scenes instead of humans talking but the human characters are not the worst the director managed to make a human story in the movie as well

Unlike the painful version of 1998, this one is attached to the essence of the monster created by Japanese cinema in the distant 50's. The action sequences work as they should as well as the performances that look plausible. Should we look forward to the big showdown against King Kong?

There are points in the movie where I felt like it wasn't worth watching, but then Godzilla came on screen, for 5 seconds then back to the human stuff Bryan Cranston gives a great performance as Joe Brody but is killed off, its overall an ok movie but a fantastic kaju film.

73% Some decent characters, solid cast to perform those characters. Pretty good story, but we all know why we're here. To see Godzilla and other monsters. I feel like they could've used more of the movie's screentime on Godzilla rather than human characters, although that's just my child imagination and nostalgia talking.

Godzilla is an ok movie. it's a good reboot of Godzilla but the movie was a bit to long

82% This movie is amazing. I get that people don’t like the lack of Godzilla, but I thought the build up was great. And the sound design and CGI was perfect.

I think this is a mediocre movie. CGI and Music are great and Godzilla's design looks gorgeous, but most of the cast is awful in this... I don't know. The plot isn't bad, but it could be better. Also it has better dialogues than Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but I wasn't interested at all.
