Serves to not only put a very human face on this horrific condition but also as a triumphant valedictory of Campbell's poignant farewell tour.

Ultimately, I’ll Be Me is both an unconventional tribute to this American icon and a deep-down cri de coeur for more research on viable ways to retard the progression of Alzheimer’s and perhaps one day find a reliable cure. No one’s getting any younger, after all.

“Cheerful” and “triumphant” aren’t words that come to mind when you think of Alzheimer’s, the debilitating illness that destroys memory, mind and body. But darned if country star Glen Campbell doesn’t manage that in Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.

I’ll Be Me is an elevating experience, inviting the audience to bear witness to Campbell’s courage, humor and spiritual strength. His story may make for a tough movie, but it’s an important and triumphant one, as well.

Not your general cradle to grave documentary about the great singer, but a poignant coda about how he is dealing with the day to day onset of Alzheimer's disease whilst planning and performing a farewell tour. Much has been written about the unsavoury aspects of Glen Campbell's life, and this fly on the wall documentary captures enough of the man now to gain an understanding of where that reputation came from. His deterioration is seen as the film progresses and it is truly heart breaking to witness. We are introduced to a family that love and understand him and to audiences who quite rightly revere him as the legend he is. Archive footage fills in a few background details about his life and children, but the only thing really missed here are the perfect renderings of all those wonderful songs. One brand new song, the Oscar nominated 'Not gonna miss you' is, however, a most welcome and pertinent addition to his glorious musical achievements.

What a sad movie to watch. You already know how it's going to end. For anyone who has seen the mental deterioration ****, or parent, this movie shows it with no gloss over. It's sad to say but for anyone who is starting to see these changes in an elderly loved one, this movie will show you what's going to happen and what to expect. I can't imagine the guts Glen Campbell had to make this movie and show his deterioration, warts and all.
