Ghost World is a beautiful evocation of the ghostly nature of love, loss, and ultimately memory itself.

I wanted to hug this movie. It takes such a risky journey and never steps wrong. It creates specific, original, believable, lovable characters, and meanders with them through their inconsolable days, never losing its sense of humor.

I saw this movie just at the right time in my life. This was exactly the kind of movie that my recently graduated from high school self needed. It encapsulated all the anxiety, insecurity and fear of the future that I was feeling. The fear of being an adult with responsabilities. That constant fight between wanting to stay in your confort zone and wanting to take a bus going anywhere. In the end, you can be like Rebecca and get a job and be a reaponsable adult, or you can be like Enid and explore adulthood however your heart desires. Each of the character's choices feed into their flaws and strengths. Their pretentiousness and creativity, their self-reightousness and maturity. The movie refuses to paint either of them as right or wrong in their life choices. It never judges them, even if we the audience might. It may be pure early 2000's teen angst, but it still feels fresh today. (I didn't even mention Steve Buscemi. This is his best performance)

Definitely one of my favorites movies. I loved all about her, the acting, the soundtrack and the main characters were perfect. Totally in love with this movie.

Pitch-perfect -- not just the most enjoyable movie of the year but the first (after Crumb) to get the tone of a certain strain of "underground" comic right.

Zwigoff pulls off something in Ghost World that seems a minor miracle -- he creates someone with a complex inner life.

There's a loneliness at the heart of this world, and Ghost World, that's really touching -- and a bit scary, too.

Ghost World is above all a disquieting consciousness-raiser.

In his first fiction feature, Zwigoff doesn't forget to bring the funny. But he doesn't bring enough poetry.

what does really this movie want to say? i don't understand. i think this high rating was because of ambiguity of the movie. they did not understand and thought that it is so strong.

Ghost World is just exasperatingly dull. It has moments of comedy. It has moments of poignancy. However, these moments get drowned out in this deadbeat teenage girl hating the world and hating everybody around her while learning nothing about life and instead just deciding to leave everything behind. There are no character arcs here for our main character who is an immature obnoxious **** to begin with and is an immature obnoxious **** when it ends. The film really can be relatable at times when it comes to touching on issues with growing up and finishing high school, as well as providing some seriously funny moments (especially when discussing art or film). Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson, and Steve Buscemi, are all good here, but the film is poorly paced and suffers immensely from crafting a deeply unlikable main character.

If the central character is supposed to be sympathetic, I don't get it. She's an annoying, self-absorbed brat possessed of an undeserved case of ennui. Scarlett Johansson is also surprisingly uninteresting, leaving very little to focus on. The only (mildly) interesting moments in the film involved minor characters. Definitely a movie only another self-absorbed teenager could love. Unless you have a very high threshold for boredom, skip it
