G20 is standard-issue improbable action that’s lifted by EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) award winner Davis, who makes everything better, and the Mexican-born Riggen’s direction.

G20 is an entertaining and gripping action vehicle with a deft sense of tension that is sometimes undone by its on-the-nose dialogue.

I enjoyed every scene, plot, and action of the movie G20. It was heartfelt and captivating. It was refreshing to see a diverse cast. The action scenes catch me by surprise, but it most definitely was engaging. I like the fact that it aligns with reality as it relates to technology and parenting. AI is now a huge part of our society, and misuse can make things worse than what it is, especially when used for corruption. I feel that the writers and producers made it relatable and all embracing. The plane scene also had me at the edge of my seat at the end. I will not go into detail because it's so good you have to see it for yourself. The entire cast was phenomenal and on point. I streamed it on Prime as my weekend leisure. I had to watch twice it was so good. Definitely will recommend and add to favorites!!!

This movie was absolutely amazing! It was so action-packed and full of suspense from start to finish. Every scene kept me on the edge of my seat — the pacing was relentless in the best way possible. The action sequences were incredibly well choreographed, and the cinematography added an intense, cinematic quality that elevated the whole experience. Viola Davis delivered a powerhouse performance, bringing depth, strength, and charisma to every scene. She was captivating to watch and carried the film with grace and grit. What stood out most was how the film balanced thrilling moments with emotional beats — it wasn’t just explosions and stunts, but a gripping story that had real stakes. To top it all off, there were just the right touches of humor woven in, giving the audience a few moments to breathe and even laugh, without ever taking away from the intensity of the plot. G20 is the kind of movie you want to see in a packed theater, where the tension and adrenaline are shared with everyone around you. Easily one of the best action thrillers I’ve seen in a long time — I’d watch it again in a heartbeat!

As anyone who saw The Woman King will know, Davis has a formidable screen presence and serious action chops; for all its silliness, there’s plenty of fun to be had watching her slaughter the bad guys amid a diplomatic hail of bullets and canapés.

Once the principal heroes and villains have been established and the perfunctory narrative throat-clearing is out of the way, G20 finds its groove as a solid popcorn action flick.

Part Die Hard, part wish-fulfillment saga for a post-2024 present that didn’t come to pass, it’s a fantasy of feminist and U.S. might that’s chockablock with implausibilities.

Sadly, even for the biggest supporter of everything action has had to offer genre-lovers for decades, “G20” remains hard to recommend, as much as it hits those recognizable beats and with its Oscar winner attempting to lead the charge towards the end credits.

Before we get to its many faults, it’s worth noting G20 gets one part of its concept correct: casting Viola Davis as the President. Getting the vibes right when casting your President is the most important first step when making a film in this subgenre.

G20 is a gripping and well-executed film. Viola Davis is outstanding, and Antony Starr delivers a powerful performance as a villain. The direction keeps the tension high throughout. Definitely worth watching.

In February, Angela Bassett played POTUS in “Zero Day” (my review). Now it’s Viola Davis’ turn to step into this “science fiction” role as a Black woman president. She heads to the G20 summit to make an important financial statement. Pretty quickly, a terrorist group invades the proceedings, taking world leaders hostage. Of course, she manages to escape with a small group and calls on her former military training to save the day. Davis brings her gravatas to the role, while doing a good job of kicking ass. On the plus side, the action scenes are plentiful and well staged. On the negative, this film is pushing the boundaries of credibility. There are so many situations where the response should be “really?” Even so, the plot’s numerous implausibilities are enveloped in lots of daring escapes and furious hand-to-hand combat. If you can look past the absurdity that abounds, it's a cracking good time.

So watched this right after work today and I must confess I'm utterly bamboozled as to how hell a movie with such a stacked cast stuffed with so many action sequences can be so boring?? It's obvious it's got a decent budget as the production values are there and there's a whole heap of plot ideas and mixed character motivations, but somehow fails to cohere into a solid whole. Really disappointing.

“G20” is Amazon’s latest propaganda project that follows the first black female President who has the strength and skill at the age of nearly 60 to take out 200 pound bad guys including the head of her own security detail. Utilizing a cheesy villain with layers of uneven motivations and objectives, a paper thin premise, and ambitiously desperate mental gymnastics to justify the events in the movie, audiences may think this movie isn’t meant to be taken seriously, yet the dialogue and action, though cringey and tired, show no indication of self awareness and “G20” under the poor direction of Patricia Riggen demands to be taken seriously.
