Kate Berlant was iconic in this movie as one of the talent agents. Her only better role was as the lady who punctured someone's lung with acupuncture. That's because they let her breathe more in that role. HEY! Enough lung jokes. I loved Dream Scenario for other reasons too--the premise is amazing--Cage appears in people's dreams. And the fallout of that phenomenon leads us through a real-feeling result, and biting satire. I will soon be laying to sleep with my wristwatch on, trying to enterNick Cage's dreams. In every dream I am going to try to steal his dinosaur fossil using a map from the MoMa.

Dream Scenario has a very interesting concept, but I didn't love the execution. The characters are very well-written. Paul and Janet are unfortunately realistic. They are both weak-willed, but they lie to each other to cover that. The other characters are good too, but a few of their reactions to the dreams changing were illogical. For example they had no reason to write loser onto the car. On the other hand, I think Paul had influence on how the dreams changed. While he was a hard-working, but weak-willed person, the dreams made him look unhelpful and the second he did something sexual, the dreams became a lot weirder. But that's just my theory. The ending wants to be full of mystery, but that dream is what Janet wanted, so in my mind, they moves together after the film. I loved the cinematography, I loved how old and nostalgic the movie looked. But I didn't like the editing. The movie is less than a hundred minutes, but still manages to feel like a two hour movie. The acting was flawed. There were a few scenes where Nicolas Cage was just acting awfully. These are the reasons I think the execution is far from good. Dream Scenario is thought-provoking, but feels like a very long movie.

The premise was interesting and first part of the movie, but I really disliked the conclusion as it felt like it ended up not going anywhere really and they should have made it unravel somehow differently towards the end. Decent movie but nothing that impressive.

A great concept, with rather bland performances. However, I think this movie has a relatively low ceiling going in. Some camera work felt shotty and the lack of color (while matching Cage's boring character) left me feeling like something was missing. Was excited to watch, but this one fell flat for me. Would not recommend.

After 'Sick of Myself,' Kristoffer Borgli returns with another black comedy that once again explores the negative effects of the fleeting fame that the explosion of social networks has brought with it. On this occasion, the filmmaker uses Nicolas Cage in his umpteenth resurgence to comment on the so-called "cancel culture," manifested here as a random guy turned into a star overnight and then disowned completely by the collective. 'Dream Scenario' borrows elements from surreal works such as 'Being John Malkovich" and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' to explore, with some absurdism here and there, how the behavior of society has changed in the digital age. Although not as cryptic as those great films written by Charlie Kaufman, 'Dream Scenario' relates to them by giving us a pathetic but extremely familiar protagonist; it doesn't take long for you to make his frustrations, mistakes, and shame your own. Incorporating horror and science fiction elements, 'Dream Scenario' stands out for its representation of the midlife crisis, the decadent social reflection that makes us look, and a comedy that ranges from fart jokes to deep existentialist meditations.

A movie about privacy and life in the public eye. Paul Matthews unintentionally invades the privacy of other people's dreams, becoming a global sensation. Living life in the public eye comes with the cost of privacy and accepting that the public will never truly know you, only their perception of you. Also dystopian dream advertising (nightmare scenario).

(Mauro Lanari) If Borgli had set himself the constraint of a single but in-depth theme, we would now have on the narcissism of the zebra-man (defensive mimicry vs sexual diversification) the equivalent of what "Zelig" (Allen '83) is for the conformism. Instead, it produces the glorified A24 with its know-it-all strategy: padding films by talking a little about everything but hastily. Satirical surrealism, Arister's oneirism, the link between cinema and dreams (Buster Keaton a century ago), neuro-marketing, horror and gore clog the plot with topics that would require as many well-developed feature films and not just a few hints. "Still prey to the thematic bulimia of 'Sick of Myself'" (Alessio Baronci): "less is more" (cit.).

“Everything, Everywhere” this is not. Overhyped and boring. Waxes philosophical with nothing much to say. (except maybe about cancel culture and vilification? idk) Nick Cage seems to be drawing from the character he played in the much funnier “Army of One”. Everything interesting in the film is in the trailer.

Dream Scenario, to me at least, has one of my favorite premises of the year; Nightmare on Elm Street but based around the most boring man you will ever meet with an aura of dark comedy and designed around tackling the ideas surrounding fame. To me that could be interesting- I dare say that it could be great! And for a lot of people it apparently IS **** not for me. At **** yet. Maybe it'll get there for me, maybe it won't. At the moment, I'm not really sure. I think, in the end, I don't regret watching Dream Scenario. In fact, I think as I let this movie rest with me, I'll maybe come to like it more with time, since if nothing else, I think it will stick with me for a while. Its a real rough watch, but if you can handle it, I think you won't regret it.

It was such a pleasure to see Nicolas Cage acting again (it has been a while for me), but in the end, it left me disappointed. What I understood as a cautionary tale about the unpredictable nature of public perception, felt like a slow and awkward ride to reveal something I saw coming from far away. Still, I don't dislike it because I am under the impression that the narrative intentionally attempted to play with my expectations and perception of the main character. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Nicolas Cage.

Dream Scenario is a smart and hilarious black comedy that explores the absurdity of fame and the power of dreams. Nicolas Cage delivers a brilliant performance as Paul Matthews, a bored professor who becomes a global sensation after appearing in people’s dreams. The film is full of witty dialogue, surreal situations, and unexpected twists that keep the audience entertained and intrigued. Dream Scenario is a must-see for fans of Cage and dark humor.

Trust Nicholas Cage to take up zonky roles. Barring Renfield, which had him play an eccentric character, his choice of movies have been offbeat. Dream Scenario is an A24 film and is produced by Ari Aster; need I say anything more?. Directed by Kristoffer Borgli, Dream Scenario is the story of an unassuming biology professor who starts appearing in people's dreams around the world. This leads to instant fame followed by it's repercussions as his appearances turns into nightmares.I don't think anyone else would have fit the role of Prof. Paul except Cage. He has the body language of a simple guy who just wants to be heard. But when he gets that, he goes overboard and then ultimately suffers. Cage does all of this so so well. Cage's 2nd innings has truly been noteworthy simply for the range he has shown. Dream Scenario is beautifully pieced together as we don't know which is a dream and which is real and that is the brilliance of the filmmaker. So, maybe there is more to the movie when you watch it the 2nd or 3rd time. I also loved how they brought in a very Black Mirror-esque concept towards the end. That may well be the future for all the brands/influencers out there, who knows!Michael Cera, Julianne Nicholson, Dylan Gelula, Tim Meadows co-star.

Dream Scenario is a refreshing breeze, seamlessly blending humor, emotion, and a touch of surrealism. Their quirks and struggles resonating with authenticity. Each frame a carefully crafted work of art. The play of light and shadow, coupled with stunning visuals, creates an immersive experience. The film's soundtrack is a symphony that elevates every scene, stirring emotions and enhancing the overall atmosphere. The ensemble cast delivers infusing life into their characters. Their chemistry is palpable, creating a genuine connection that draws you into their world. Paul portrayal is particularly noteworthy, bringing depth and nuance to the protagonist. While Dream Scenario excels in many aspects, there are moments where the pacing feels a bit uneven. Some scenes linger longer than necessary, disrupting the otherwise seamless flow of the narrative. Additionally, a few plot twists, while ambitious, may leave some viewers scratching their heads. Dream Scenario is a testament to the power of storytelling, a visual and emotional odyssey that will resonate with audiences for years to come.

I totally understand where Nicholas Cage's character comes from. if for some reason you become uncool everybody just leaves you. He's not responsible for what is happening to other people but everybody wants to blame him. So they make a point of ostracizing him to be cool. There is no reason for him to be so ostracised and his friends should back him up. Everybody needs love, especially in his situation because it's not his fault. And his wife of all people shouldn't be afraid of him or stop loving him. And when he is screaming at the computer about apologising, it isn't all just about himself. He just doesn't understand what's happening. But nobody wants to help him and then accuse him of being self-censored to then come up with she doesn't know how she's married to him? And then the woman who gets her hand stuck in the door wants to blame him? I know it's a movie but the point is that these things happen in real life. And sure I've been through this personally. But it doesn't mean people find excuses to not love him. Especially since he has so much love in his life anyway. Why would people who love him stop loving him just because of people having dreams about him? Even if they're violent even though that makes no sense but it's still not his fault. And no one would change the title of a book or how an author wants a book to be presented. The French would never do that. I know it's a movie but getting no love is not manifest that way. Anyway it's an okay movie. I'm not sure what the big fuss is about.

In essence, “Dream Scenario,” brought to life by Kristoffer Borgli’s superb screenplay and Nicolas Cage’s stellar performance, shines as an unparalleled film in an era of copy-paste productions. Unfortunately, the Black Mirror-style addition at the film’s conclusion slightly diminishes the score I would otherwise assign. Nevertheless, the presented narrative is truly commendable, especially as it draws parallels with the extremes of the contemporary world, turning the film into a much more nuanced and compelling experience. Films like “Dream Scenario” are not the typical fare we encounter regularly; each year brings a handful of these unique narratives. Appreciating their value becomes imperative.

If you watched the trailer you have pretty much the idea of the entire plot of the movie. There is no satisfying end, or any resolve to the premise whatsoever. However, and I probably shouldn't talk about this the invasion of people's subconscious (Dreams) will soon become a real thing that a lot of corporations will try to profit from. Don't believe it... do some research on WIFI signals and algorithms invading people's thoughts. Anyway, this film starts with a good plot device of a professor unknowingly invading people's minds(Dreams) and that's pretty much the film, it goes nowhere besides showing some flashes of some horrific, sometimes plausible occurrences. On paper, the idea is as solid as can be but it does not try to explain or say why this has happened. So I am forced to give it a 6/10, It is above average but it's not something that people would feel satisfied after watching, huh kinda like the Recent Hunger Games movie. Don't get me wrong it's a unique film and it starts up great, I was invested but it just breaks you down and doesn't do anything meaningful besides becoming a parody. This movie made me want to change the rating of the recent Hunger Games movie. I love you Nicholas Cage but you need a role where you can show off your acting prowess. Review over, If Nick Cage is gonna appear in my dreams to change this rating, I'll do it.

“Dream Scenario” begins with the most interesting and innovative movie premise to come along recently. It’s based, apparently, on the This Man phenomenon. (For more, see ****.) Throughout the world, over 8000 people claim to have seen the same man (This Man) in their dreams, despite the fact that these people have never met one another. The drawings and other renderings of this person are eerily similar. The This Man phenomenon has been theorized to be everything from a Jungian archetype to proof of the existence of **** this film by Norwegian Writer/Director/Editor Kristoffer Borgli (“Sick of Myself”), This Man is Paul Matthews (Nicholas Cage), an evolutionary biologist who teaches (to no great effect) at Osler College and whose supreme ambition is to write a modestly well-received book about ants. For no apparent reason, Paul begins to appear in the dreams of friends and strangers alike. He’s soon recognized in public. Students want to take selfies with him. An ad agency is willing to help find a publisher for his unwritten book, while also helpfully suggesting that he become a pitchman for Sprite. He’s even invited to a much-coveted dinner party by a neighbor who had never previously acknowledged his existence. Through no efforts of his own, Paul Matthews has become **** in the third act, it all goes wrong. Dreams involving Paul become much darker, much more sinister. Dream Paul morphs into a malevolent character who frightens and harms people. People respond by ostracizing Paul in real life. This story forms a perfect context for Director Borgli to offer observations – both subtle and pointed – about the price of fame and also about the ridiculous nature of the current cancel culture. The story is at its best when it depicts people in restaurants or public events like school plays expecting Paul to exile himself simply because they “don’t feel comfortable.” It’s all quite poignant since nothing has actually happened to merit his being shunned.Nicholas Cage is fabulous as the character at the center of this maelstrom of adulation and hatred. While he channels some of the manic energy he exhibited in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” here he’s unobtrusive and self-effacing. The scene where he clumsily tries to oblige the fantasies of a young woman (an excellent Dylan Gelula – “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) is equal parts hilarious and cringe-worthy. Michael Cera as the ad agency executive and Julianne Nicholson (“I, Tonya,” “Mare of Easttown”) as Paul’s wife are also first rate. This film is seldom laugh-out-loud funny, but at several points it provides interesting observations and worthwhile food for thought. One weakness is that the film is more a series of vignettes than a story with narrative momentum. The film’s final scenes are glaringly out of step with what went before, in both tone and substance. “Dream Scenario” lives up to its name by offering a premise with lots of promise. And while some of the scenes soar, ultimately Writer/Director Borgli never figures out how to land the plane.

In a departure from the gruff violent characters that Nicolas Cage has embraced lately, he goes soft as a quiet professor and balding family man. Out of nowhere, his character starts appearing in other people's dreams, which progresses to the point that his own life turns into a nightmare. Cage's gentle persona is a pleasing change, creating a sweet character peppered with humorous moments. This starts as an amusing sci-fi tale, but develops a satirical edge, including topical subjects like Gen Z's sensitivity and cancel culture. Some of the social observations may ring even more ironic given than this film was written/directed by a Norwegian filmmaker (Kristoffer Borgli). Rising above the social commentary in this subtle sci-fi scenario is the kind of performance from Cage that earned him his reputation as a talented and versatile actor.

Dream Scenario presents a delightfully peculiar premise, featuring a college professor (Nic Cage) who inexplicably starts appearing in the dreams of his students and strangers alike. As the phenomenon grows, the protagonist undergoes the typical trajectory of any celebrity—becoming both a sensation and an outcast.Nicolas Cage, as has been his career pattern over the last two decades, alternates between about some 6 o 8 **** movies and then delivers a standout performance. Although he seems accustomed to intentionally eccentric roles by now.Dream Scenario is effective in getting its humor going, even though it loses some momentum toward the end due to a lack of more intricate exploration. The laughs flow naturally because the themes are easily understood, but beyond the entertainment, there's a noticeable absence of plot depth, and it doesn't strive for it.I concede that this lightness also prevents the narrative and characters from becoming wearisome, as they're clearly not designed for a deeper exploration, which is totally fine. While Dream Scenario may not be groundbreaking or feature a monumental point or scene, it provides intriguing and eccentric fun. I never found myself bored, which is already a significant win.

A depressing movie about a narcissistic, shallow man going viral and having to deal with all the consequences and the lack of agency such an event has on your life. From being used for politics, corporate greed, grifters, or straight up ostracized, our leading man is dragged along making mistake after mistake. It's hard to feel bad for him as the portrayal intentional makes him unlikable which is probably intentional. I mostly feel bad for his kids. Also the movie is about dreams.

IN A NUTSHELL: A hapless family man finds his life turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. When his nighttime appearances take a nightmarish turn, Paul is forced to navigate his newfound ****. This movie is directed and written by Kristoffer Borgli. It’s already been nominated for a couple of awards. Congrats! THINGS I LIKED: I love that Nicolas Cage is making such a positive comeback. He took a professional nose dive there for a number of years, but he has so many raving fans who think he’s hilarious and awesome so much so that his recent films have been hits. Here’s another film they’re going to love. He does a great job creating a character that you feel sorry for as he transforms from a self-absorbed professor to a caged animal. The entire cast does a great job and includes Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, Dylan Baker, and more. There’s talk of keeping a dream journal. Have you ever done that? One of my sons has been doing that for years and is fascinated by what he could learn from his dreams and if he can do lucid dreaming. The film does an excellent job of taking a satirical look at what we do to be appreciated and get recognition from others. It reminds us not to dream our life away, wishing for our life to be a certain way while we don’t take action to make those dreams come true. There’s a great line from another movie I just reviewed that is applicable to this movie’s theme: “If you talk about something, it’s a dream. If you envision it, it’s a possibility. If you schedule it, it’s reality.” Check out my review of What Happens Later! I loved the analogy of the zebras and how their stripes are designed to help them blend in with each other in order to keep them safe. It’s an interesting idea considering that so many people want to be unique and noticed. Did you know a group of zebras is called a “Dazzle”? Cute! THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE: A better title could have been something like “Sweet Dreams” or “Dreams and Nightmares”. What do you think? Act 3 feels a bit uneven from Acts 1 & 2. TIPS FOR PARENTS: Talk of sexual fantasies Some profanity with F-bombs A middle-aged, married man makes out with a college girl Farting Violence with blood We see people die brutal deaths

Nicolas Cage stars in this trip of a film about a slovenly college professor who inexplicably starts randomly appearing in everybody's (even complete strangers') dreams, making him an overnight viral star around the world. However, he soon starts to experience firsthand the downsides of fame and the spotlight when he starts to become homicidal in everybody's dreams, putting him and his reputation on the line. First of all, I've long held the opinion (a hot take to some) that Cage is not a good actor. More often than not, he's quite terrible I might add, as no one else in Hollywood overacts quite like him. Be that as it may, I do find him incredibly entertaining to watch nonetheless. This film is certainly no exception, as Cage seems to fully embrace and lean into this whacky concept that this film has to offer. I do feel as though the concept could've been explored and expanded upon a bit more, but what we got was still highly intriguing and fun to watch. Moreover, the film does a fine job of highlighting the less than desirable effects of cancel culture and just how far certain people can take it. As for the performances, Cage gives us a surprisingly broad range of emotions here, turning in one of his more nuanced and fleshed out performances to date, which I certainly was not expecting from him. Supporting actors such as Julianne Nicholson as his wife and even Michael Cera appear to help liven things up throughout. The story does start to wear a little thin in the third act, and like I said, I personally wanted the concept to be expanded upon a bit more than it ended up being, but otherwise, it was wildly imaginative and inventive throughout. Overall, Cage gives it his all in this whacky but certainly never dull look at our dreams while cleverly tying it into a larger conversation about cancel culture and public perception.

Packing a lot of material and ideas into a single film can result in a muddled, confusing mess, no matter how well-meaning a filmmaker’s intentions might be. However, in his third feature outing, writer-director Kristoffer Borgli succeeds for the most part when it comes to tackling such an imposing task. This offbeat tale of tenured but underappreciated university professor (Nicolas Cage) takes viewers on a wild ride through the diverse realms of fame, metaphysics, cancel culture, unrelenting group think, and unexpressed, underpursued desire, and the downside consequences of each. All of this comes about when the middle-aged everyman protagonist inexplicably begins showing up in the dreams of countless people, many of whom he doesn’t even know. This curious oneiric anomaly – an inspired metaphor for one’s presence on social media and in the public eye – quickly transforms him into an overnight viral media sensation, one that starts off with a generous showering of attention and **** admiration but that almost as quickly leads him to become a scorned put-upon pariah. He swiftly becomes more than just yesterday’s news; he turns into the object of a targeted campaign of cancel culture, hate speech and unapologetic ostracism. And, ironically, it all stems from something he never wanted nor asked for in the first place (at least in the form it ultimately took). From the foregoing description, it might sound like the filmmaker has tried to overstuff this vehicle with far too much material for viewers to process and comprehend, and there are points in the story (especially in the last half hour) where a good case could be made for that argument. However, in telling this allegorical fable, the director manages to keep the narrative’s ideas distinctly sorted and in context to drive home his message, a powerful cautionary tale about the point we’ve collectively reached as a society with respect to these powerful and potentially damaging matters and practices. These are notions that we all need to hear but seldom do because of all the noise surrounding us that prevents us from hearing the music because of all the notes. For all this seriousness, however, “Dream Scenario” is loaded with hilarious, laugh-out-loud humor and fine performances all around (especially Cage and Michael Cera as an empty-headed, self-absorbed brand management expert), complemented with skillful film editing and carefully selected incidental shots that effectively punctuate the mood of many scenes. The script is generally solid, too, though it begins to stray somewhat from the material that works best in the final act, and there are a few graphically violent sequences that sensitive viewers should be wary of. On balance, though, this is the kind of production that should be made in greater numbers in an age where so many of us have lost touch with reason, our existence and ourselves. Maybe watching an offering like this could help us all sit up, think and get back on track while we still can.

A world where Nicolas Cage haunts people’s dreams is about as weird and original as you’d expect. Dream Scenario is dark, funny, bizarre and worth a watch if you’re looking for something a little different. Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage) finds his life upended when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. The unexplained phenomenon starts as him just appearing and doing nothing while people are having very random dreams. All of a sudden Paul finds himself the centre of attention and a viral sensation. Just when he’s beginning to enjoy his newfound **** things take a dark turn when the dreams turn into graphic nightmares, which he is violently involved. But what does one do when they’re becoming a social pariah all because of things they’ve done in people’s subconscious? This unexplained occurrence could not have happened to a more ordinary and boring guy. Paul’s life hasn’t exactly turned out the way he expected. With everyone around him seeming to flourish in their careers and publishing their work only makes his own failures seem worse especially when he can’t get his own book published, or even written. So when the chance at fame arises, albeit for the most bizarre of reasons he jumps at the opportunity with little thought into what going viral can bring. The good, the bad and the crazy. By the time he realises this, the effects on his work life and family life have already taken hold. Dream Scenario is not exactly the laugh out loud comedy the trailer made it appear to be. Yes it’s funny enough and contains quite a lot of toe curling cringe humour. Mostly due to Cage’s mortifying reaction to the sudden fame and all the good and bad that comes with that. It’s loosely based on a real life internet hoax, but instead Dream Scenario takes the idea and runs with it as if it really could happen. It really does delve into dark themes when the dreams for these millions of people turn nightmarish. Paul is now seen as a dangerous threat to his students, strangers on the street and even his own family. As a result the film drifts away from comedy and more into the horror theme, before bouncing back to comedic moments. It’s also satirical at times, with particular focus on social media fame, and cancel culture. The plot definitely went down paths I wasn’t expecting and it’s a bit of a mishmash of genres but it was entertaining nonetheless. The constant tonal shifts gives the entire film a dream like quality and when it ends you’re left feeling like you just woke up from a strange dream. You’ll go along with it as it’s happening but afterwards, the whole experience feels very peculiar. Dream Scenario is an original and interesting idea that feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s probably not going to last too long in the cinemas and a certain cinema chain that has 10+ screens isn’t showing it (surprise, surprise). So if you do want to see it, better make it quick. Recommended for anyone looking for something very different and weird. And as always it’s a must see for all the die-hard Nicolas Cage fans.

Often funny, usually interesting. Perhaps overstays its welcome a tad by the end and is not particularly strong in the ending. But there’s a lot here to appreciate. And it’s one of the best examinations of cancel culture / social media I’ve seen. It achieves this all through metaphor, like art is supposed to.
