Dear Evan Hansen

If you’ve ever felt alone and ignored in life, Dear Evan Hansen may touch you in profound ways.

You see Evan Hansen, all of his flaws and desires and self-loathing laid bare. And there are enough of these goosebump-inducing, epiphanic moments courtesy of the actor that you see why people might love this film as well as cringe at it. Platt does not ruin the movie. He singlehandedly gives it a voice.

The movie version is simply a poor adaptation, trading the vibrancy and refreshing spirit of the original show for all-too-familiar teen-movie angst, with an out of place leading man.

Relatable in neither its bizarrely specific plotting nor its broadly generic emotions, Dear Evan Hansen is so self-serious that it almost plays like self-parody, only without any “so bad it’s good” fun. We may all be striving for human connection right now, but we’re unlikely to find any here.

The movie asks the audience to not look at two elephants in the room, and unfortunately, no amount of soaring music can relieve that heavy a burden.

Dear Evan Hansen is a rare musical that must be seen to be believed. Few shows are less equipped to grapple with their subject matter; watching someone Wikipedia the plot synopsis of the musical in real time remains one of the last true pleasures available to us as a society.

Treacly and manipulative, Dear Evan Hansen turns villain into victim and grief into an exploitable vulnerability. It made me cringe.

Honestly I have no clue why people hate this movie; it really went above and beyond my expectations. A lot of users are saying that they dislike the main character, but throughout the film we see how he is pushed into his lies by his own insecurities and by trying to comfort the Connor’s family. Watch the movie and you’ll instantly understand why telling the truth wasn’t really an option for him in the beginning, taking in his personality and life. Also, personally, I think that Ben Platt really looks like a high schooler for most of the scenes (there are one or two where the illusion slips), and his and the rest of the cast’s performances are absolutely stellar. The music is done really well and I loved every second of it. I cried a little during an especially touching scene with Connor’s dad. Please dont listen to the haters and just watch it. It’s really good!

Far from the worst thing ever. Yeah, Platt looks really out of place but his co-stars are also in their mid-20s. As far as the story goes… like, it’s weird but hardly offensive. Sure the intended audience will like it.

(복잡한 감정이 그다지 필요하지 않아서였을지도)4. 그럼에도 불구하고 "Waving through a window”나 “Sincerely me”, “Requiem”, "You’ll be found” 같은 명곡의 묘사는 좋았어서 좋았다.5. 알라야의 "The anonymous ones”는 처음 들어보는 넘버였지만 너무 꽂히고 좋았다.

What is the use of listing any form of diversity dear to SJWs? Why such a horrible miscasting? Julianne Moore is 60 years old, the age for roles as a grandmother, not as a mother, Amy Adams is at least 10 kilos overweight, Kaitlyn Dever is not credible as a charming girl, Ben Platt's fragility is of a unique dislike. The adolescent discomfort was extraordinarily described by Van Sant in his "Trilogy of Death", long before Chazelle who is as much overrated as Chbosky.
