Changeland

Slight but likable, Changeland deals with moving on and the healing powers of travel and friendship. Forgetting Sarah Marshall’s low-budget cousin, it’ll hopefully finally establish Green as more than just the “Zip It!” guy.

Oddly, everyone from boat-tour guides to shot-bar patrons find time to ask our hero solicitous personal questions. If only he, or the film, had more interesting answers.

Thailand is lovingly shot with an eye for its vibrant colors, and there are some late scenes that show an impressive style from Green. Not everything in the script shows that same care, but this is still an interesting, if not wholly successful first feature from the star.

For how much Changeland mostly feels like a story grounded in reality, its dream-like conclusion—or lack thereof –kills, with lethal injection, any belief that a journey has actually taken place.

Likeable. Chill. Emotional realism. Visually pleasant. Solid cast. I liked it.
