A very average film with some very poor acting from most, but some quite good acting from a couple of the cast. A fairly low-budget CGI set-up fails to add anything. Watchable, but I wouldn't bother watching it again!

It has been quite some time since I have watched this movie, so I really don't remember everything about it. However, I watched some recaps to refresh my mind before this review. This movie feels like struggling British inner city youth have to take on aliens by themselves without the help of any authority figures. It is really funny, and has fun stoner humor. I mostly watched this movie because Nick Frost is awesome.

Great picture, beautifully shot, fascinating special effects and vibrant sound. It’s an interesting take on the alien invasion and the gang culture of South London. Fast pacing, memorable characters and exciting action are only let down slightly by some flatter bits and initially dislikeable lead character.

An alien invasion hits the "hood" in London reeking havoc with the local gangs. Excellent performances by all invoived including a breakout role for John Boyega (or Star Wars fame).

Attack The Block, the movie's got a great plot and it's about this group of chavy teenagers who go on an adventure to fight these weird looking aliens from space. The acting from all the cast is brilliant, especially from Moses (John Boyega) he's honestly outstandingly good. The dialogue which the characters have throughout this movie is really good and it doesn't feel forced in anyway. Also, there's a good bit of humour with the characters dialogue throughout this movie, which adds a little bit more to their characters, which I really liked. The humour throughout this movie is really good and I thought it worked quite well and it made me laugh quite a bit. Finally, the camera work which this movie's got is honestly amazing and it doesn't look bad in any way. The movie's even got a really good soundtrack, which I honestly think is another positive in my opinion. Overall, Attack The Block is honestly a great Sc-Fi/Action movie with a dash of comedy throughout. The movie's got brilliant acting, really good dialogue, great humour, amazing camera work and a great soundtrack. It's honestly worth the watch.

This movie is a classic movie its about a group of lads who robbed a lady and then aliens come invaded the town. The film is based on gangstas who rob and intimidate people and look after their block. when the aliens come invade the block they kill a baby alien with fireworks and take it to their friends flat, this means that they have the alien smell which means the other aliens can sense them and find them easier. The lady calls police and she gets taken into a police van and they keep her in there and the aliens invade the police van. The group of boys blast fireworks at the aliens and the van. The group kills the aliens and then they get arrested.

When a group of teenagers attack and kill an alien creature they end up getting more than they bargained for. Attack the Block in an alien invasion movie by way of TV show “Misfits”. The plot is pretty simple but everything moves along at a good pace, the special effects are well done and the performances from people such as John Boyega and Jodie Whitaker (who have both gone on to have successful careers) are very good which all makes for a pretty entertaining film.

The main characters are not particularly sympathetic--you first meet them while they're mugging someone, so the film initially seems to encourage you to hope for their comeuppance via alien invasion. The language was also pretty hard to understand, though subtitles help. It was full of very contemporary pop culture references, and parts of it were quite funny.

This is an awesome movie. I can see why John Boyega was chosen for The Force Awakens, he gives a phenomenal performance here as well. It has a great script, great cast, great performances, and great action.

"Attack the Block" is exactly what you should expect from an R-rated sci-fi. Gore, loads of f-bombs, and crazy dialogue. The film is very cheesy, but very entertaining. The street thugs turn into kick ass superheros who fend off these aliens from destroying London. Very entertaining, right? I say if you enjoyed Alien, Independence Day, or Straight Outta Compton, you will enjoy Attack The Block. 6/10

Attack the Block is a new generation for moviegoers all over the world. You'll love every single bit of it and then you'll ask for more so you'll just play it again instead of just waiting.

In this imaginative variation of the classic theme, a South London gang takes on a small-scale alien invasion. These are just teenage punks pitting their moxy and street skills against creatures that are vicious, but surprisingly vulnerable, kind of a dark (literally) versions of a Sendak beast. From the way the thugs talk to the racial/social themes, this film should gather a cult following for its originality. The action scenes are well-staged and the characters develop nicely. Give this a chance and it'll pay off!

For those of us who don't speak fluent chav, the script is completely incomprehensible. Not that it especially matters, because the protagonists are some of the most disgusting characters to ever feature in a film. The first thing you see the protagonists do is mug a woman. For a start, I thought the woman was originally going to be the main character, while the group of teenagers were going to be fodder for the aliens. I was sadly mistaken. Having villains for main characters is nothing new. That is not the problem. Having someone like the Joker, or Darth Vader, or any number of famous villains as protagonists would be perfectly alright. Because they are over the top. They would never actually exist. The problem is that these kind of people do exist, and this film seems to expect me to empathise with them? I spent the entire film loathing their existence, to the point where I was actually rooting for the aliens. And it wasn't as if the characters were in some way memorable - I could barely tell them apart most of the time. Possibly due to not being able to understand the script, I failed to see where the humour came in with this film. It was just a low-budget horror film with despicable characters and an even worse script. Forgettable, and easily despised.

Attack the Block fell short of my expectations as a whole, but did have many positive traits. What it lacked in good characterization and in storytelling ability, it made up with its ability to make you laugh and be thrilled, but especially the later thanks to its brilliant creature design. Though not a horror film, it certainly feels like one in the way it builds tension and really delivers a great pay-off for that tension. Now, the writing for those scenes is very strong, but scenes in which the characters merely interact fall flat and just annoy the viewer. It is also awkward in the sense that it crafts characters we do not like, then tries to make us feel bad for them by the end. Additionally, its plot seems a bit too fortunate and unlikely in the way it ultimately turns out. All the same, the science fiction element of this is expertly crafted and shows serious skill, even if the non-science fiction elements fall flat.

The humour is for the most part poor, and acting performances are overall weak. Nick Frost has his funny moments but the characters your supposed to care about are more ambivalent ones to you. Must say though, Alex Esmail was brilliant in this film, he really has some comedic chops. The film provides a look into underprivileged teenagers of the U.K. and how they are review by the outer oublic which is interesting, but the material around the main subject matter is weak and sadly doesn't provide much substance.

Let's start with the good **** visuals are amazing, the "aliens" are well made, there is some action, the deaths are pretty gory and there is Nick **** the bad points, overall the acting is not really good, the characters are not sympathetic at all and it's pretty though to really get into the movie because of **** characters are not sympathetic so we don't really care what will happen to **** that means that the movie is less tense and enjoyable.

A group of 'thugs' living in an estate in London make first contact with extraterrestrial life. Unfortunately the "gorilla, wolf ,dog" aliens picked the wrong place to land. Resulting in humor, action and a lot of on the edge danger. Undeniably a great movie. A cast that realistically feels like they're friends make this movie one to watch!

This is a pretty cool film with one of the best low budget creature designs I've seen in a long time. Effectively scary and funny at the same time making it quite entertaining.

This is a great monster film, no CGI and smart dialogue and great acting from its youthful cast especially John Boyega, he has a great presence on the screen and he is only 22 years old!

This movie teases you initially with extraterrestrial comeuppance being visited on thuggish criminals and deftly defies your expectations by centring the plot firmly on them and their triumphs. Unfortunately at that point you're left with zero empathy for the protagonists and the film settles into a waiting game whereby time passes while you continuously hope they meet unfortunate ends. The humour present in the film doesn't counterbalance this deep central flaw.

I am quite a big fan of sci-fi movies. My personal favourite being Alien directed by Ridley Scott which is a late 70s classic. Just recently I came bough attack the block on DVD and watched it a day ago. I have to say I was not disappointed!! The creature was impressive I must say, a bloodthirsty beast prowling the streets of London? Awesome!!! I liked how the alien relied on it's senses to stalk not it's intelligence or intellect. Some may not like the fact that the main character is presented to be quite a trouble maker and a small time criminal, but reality is that on these rough areas of London and the UK kids grow up with no money and no family which is in it's own way heartbreaking. The gore levels in this movie were off the charts. For a small budget film they really know how to make me squirm!!! So, attack the block is a great film to watch with some jumps and some gore but overall a thrilling movie which will surely entertain!

This action-packed English export lends an urban edge to the Science Fiction genre as Moses and his gang of underage punks are left to save the projects after alien invaders ATTACK THE BLOCK! Moses and his mates arm themselves with an array of heavy weapons, spouting out hip pop culture references as they hack and slash their way to safety. Joe Cornish's kinetic shooting style is fresh and fast-paced, taking off after the menacing four-legged aliens at electric speeds. These jet-black beasts are unlike anything we have seen before, and make for frightening new villains. Hidden beneath the fun and excitement on screen lies a biting social commentary that strikes at the sad economic and racial climate facing England's inner city youth. The clever combination of lighthearted humor, action, and fantasy horror works to elevate an otherwise average plot above the other Sci-Fi films of its kind.

An action-packed film that covers just about every genre following a group of teens defending their block from an alien invasion. It's very interesting watching Moses, who we are first introduced to as a villain, turn into a hero as he and his gang fight to save the day. It seems low on budget & effects but almost in a way that works as the aliens have almost no features but it's perfect for them! Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and would certainly recommend it no matter what your taste.

Entertaining B movie sci-fi film which is better than expected. The kids are believable and although the aliens are like deformed furbys they look realistic.

This film felt, though comedic, quite disturbing with the portrayal of the killings. It was better, because instead of the usual setting of a large city, it was on a London council estate. This gave it a distinctly unique British flavour. The pacing was top-notch considering it was set around a night. What also must be taken into account is the availability of character viewpoints, which, perhaps, might have been overwhelming for some people, but I thought it would be easier to hear from more people than less to provide a better understanding. The reflection of the aliens' behaviour against the teenagers which they obviously perceive to be dangerous could be compared to their perceived behaviour from the authorities point of view. Despite the less than proper language, this was still funny and surprisingly clever.

I actually disliked the first 30 minutes of this movie, and nearly turned it off. I'm glad I didn't. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and certainly doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. It's full of dark humour and a reasonable enough story line to keep you hooked... once you actually get hooked. The kids who play the main characters are a tad over the top, but not so much that they aren't believable. In truth, it's a well acted movie, and the special effects are (mostly) pretty spectacular. It's fun, plain and simple. There are a few holes in the plot that you can shoot some fireworks through, but if you just want to feel guilty about enjoying a movie with some pretty gruesome scenes, this one is worth a peek.

Attack the Block is a fresh twist on the done to death alien invasion film, presenting its tale from the viewpoint **** of thuggish British teenagers. John Boyega gives a strong performance, but his character is just so uncharismatic. It's hard to warm up to a thug who robs a young girl at knifepoint in the opening scene. He later forces the girl to attend to his friend's wounds, refusing to seek a proffesional's help. The supporting cast is mediocre at best, totally overplaying their roles. The trashy teenage girls annoyed me to no end, with the exception of the down to earth Paige Meade. Nick Frost is wasted, given a promising character but underwhelming dialogue. Too much of the humour is reliant on pop-culture references, rather than anything really original. If there's one thing the film achieved to its fullest, it was reminding me just how much I despise British thug culture.

I feel like people should ignore most of the slightly-negative reviews this film has garnered. People seem to accept that AtB is a tightly made blast of a movie, but get turned away by the characters' petty-criminal beginnings. The film in no way condones what the characters do, and never simply forgets that their actions early on are inexcusable. Where normal heroes would simply start off admirable, and continue that way, AtB gives us people we begin disapproving of, and challenges us to come around over the film's duration, just as it challenges them to acknowledge, understand, and ultimately regret their actions. Go see it, it's great fun.

A movie about aliens invading sounds stupid I know but it's surprisingly awesome, mostly because of the characters are very well done and extremely likable I was honestly sad when some of them died, and the plot is actually well done, and the action is fun, and it also packs some comedy in there, it's made by the people who brought us Shaun of the Dead so if you liked that then you should like this, I highly recommend.

Easily the most fun I've had in the movie theater all year (to think I only went because a friend suggested it while we were bored). It's part sci-fi, part comedy, part adventure, and to me, what Super 8 wishes it could have been.

Enjoyed this way more than I should of and I really don't know why.... poor acting, bad story with crappy effects but that's what the makes this movie quite good - it never bothers to justify itself. I love films where the producers just decide to go for it most for a laugh

One of the best films to get to the cinema in years. Absolutely refreshing change to the tired old Hollywood clichÃs. Captures youth culture and class inequality perfectly. A clever film with enough humour and atmosphere to keep you enthralled from start to finish.

The plot was boring, the actors were talentless, and the language used was forced and cringe worthy. The only thing this film would have had going for it would have been humour. I didn't laugh once. Awful.

Definitely one of the better movies I have seen recently. Its nice to see a summer movie that doesn't just focus on huge amounts of action and massive explosions with boring characters and very little character development. It's a mix of action, horror and comedy with an interesting plot and setting, a good script, some great acting. A great directorial debut from Joe Cornish and hope to see more from him and the cast of actors in the future.

Creepy in a funny way and vice-versa. This flick runs on a simple but very well handled Sci-Fi story. The characters are interesting, the actors well cast, and the ambiance of dread versus funny relief takes you all stressed-out from beginning to end. More unlikely heroes and unlikeable characters you'll be hard press to find, and that combination makes this film even better, since you are never inside any kind of comfort zone. A well recommended under exposed jewel.

I was a little disappointed with Attack the Block. The film had so much hype in the lead up to release, perhaps my high expectations would never be met. There's plenty of action and the odd good joke, but I do have issues with the film. I know it's only a low-budget British sci-fi, but the aliens are really rubbish. They're just big shadows with luminous teeth, and aren't scary in the least. Surely you could have had a monster that is only ever glimpsed, leaving the audience to their own imagination, which is always infinitely more scary? As it is, Attack the Block relies on cheap jumpy moments and a liberal splatter of gore to provide its moments of horror. My main issue with the film though, is the explicitly white, middle-class view of inner city street gangs. You can almost see the checklist the filmmakers followed when writing the gang (made up largely of tabloid snippets) - hoods: check, silly little bikes: check, liberal use of "innit": check. The gang borders on Catherine Tate levels of parody, and consequently the characters can never be particularly believable or engaging, no matter how good some of the young actors involved are. And why on earth is Nick Frost in the film? We know you've got the producer of Shaun of the Dead on board, but are you trying to fool us into thinking that the film is going to be in the same league by pretending you're part of the Wright-Pegg-Frost brand? The director Joe Cornish could very possibly be an interesting filmmaker in future, but as a debut, Attack the Block is competent, but nothing special.

The best movie of the year and I don't use that term lightly. This film has something for everybody, suspense, humor, scares, excellent characters, good writing, genius direction, brilliant actors and a coming of age/redemption story like I've never seen. All cloaked in a badass movie about thugs vs. aliens. I only wish I could have more of these characters (and that the film got the release it deserved). Better than Rise of the Planet of the Apes, better than Transformers (what isn't?), better than Super 8, Captain AMerica, and everything else this year. Think the best parts of "The Warriors" + the best parts of "Battle: Los Angeles" times 10. Watch this film.
