Wild ARMs 4 seems to be the complete opposite of the standard RPG, as it's the gameplay, not the story, which kept me playing.

Story problems aside, I really enjoyed Wild Arms 4. It is one of my favorite games in the series, just for the gameplay alone.

WA4 is uneven, wavering uncertainly between "totally offbeat" and "utterly trite."

I loved the game, it had such amazing graphics for it's time, and amazing combat to work with. I just replayed it recently, and it was an amazing experience to go through. my only problem was that I thought the stealth was a little weird, and the movement, especially with the sliding wasn't all that good.

Played on PlayStation 2. Gameplay: GREAT. Story: GOOD. Graphic: GOOD. Music/Sound: GREAT. Dialogue: GOOD.

It's going to slip under the radar for most people, but it is worth the effort. It's a lot of fun to play due to the battle system and dungeon mechanics and even though it wanders too far into the realm of role-playing stereotypes at times, the plot and characters are reasonably enjoyable.

With optional boss fights and side quests, there is tons to do within Wild Arms 4 to make you keep playing.

Respect is due for trying something different. [Dec 2006, p.94]

This new installment will totally baffle fans of the series. With its gloomy postindustrial setting, moderately complex platforming bits, and surprisingly different battle system, WA4 bears little resemblance to its charming, Wild West-themed predecessors. Once you get beyond that initial shock, though, you'll actually have a decent time.

The battles are unchallenging, but complex. The story is trite, but entertains. The exploration is fun, but easy.

Having long since outlived its usefulness, the Wild Arms series has gone, with this entry, from merely banal to actively irritating. With such a wealth of RPGs getting translated nowadays and more companies than ever eager to get into the act, it's about time this appendix was removed.

I have been playing Wild Arms since it's release in 96 (before the Alter Code F remake which i loved) and this installment doesn't sit to well with me. Innovative as the battle system may be there are a lot of elements about it that are just wrong especially the ley point hexes. The way the breaks happen between game play also another very bad choice with very little fmv interaction and more still frame action with different facial expressions. Although a lot argue the story doesn't sync it does, play Wild Arms 3 ( those people have no memory of why Filgaia is decaying) these people waged war on how to restore Filgaia so i think it fits perfectly with continuity.
SummaryJude Maverick has grown up in an isolated town called Ciel, which is completely enclosed in a large sphere floating thousands of feet above the surface of Filgaia. His sheltered world changes forever when he sees the sky "tear" and ships entering his homeland. Upon inspecting the camp site set up by the intruders, he sees something that ... Read More
