Overall, Verdict Guilty feels like the a healthy dose of nostalgia for a specific type of fighting game that I spent way more time playing than any arcade machine when I was first getting into video games as a young kid. The Super Nintendo/Mega Drive-feel to this feels weirdly refreshing, and the introduction of unusual mechanics to complement the fighting action is a really nice touch too. Is the game the nicest looking fighting game out there? Not by a long shot, but that doesn’t mean that it looks bad in any way. Is the game incredibly unbalanced? Yes, but definitely not to the point of throwing your controller at the screen in a ragequit fit (like with certain SNK games). All in all, while it might not be the most essential fighting game to add to your collection, Verdict Guilty is a thoroughly decent homage to the console fighting games of the early 90s in all the best ways, with an incredible 80s cop movie aesthetic giving it a huge boost.
