Basically, the abbysmal camera make the worlds harder than they should be, especially tick tock clock and they are esthetically too simple. That’s the main problems, and they make the game fall in quality. I would call it overrated.

Absolute MASTERPIECE. Way ahead of its time. I was mindblown by it when I first saw if in a window of a toy shop. I was even more mindblow when I actually played. I recently played it more and despite the graphics I am still so shocked by it, the music is great but also the freedom and possibilities. I am not joking, there are still modern games not giving as much freedom: it was 1996 and Mario could jump, backflip, jump off walls, long jump, swim, and all sort of things in such a natural way. Once used to the controls moving becomes second nature. 11/10

This review was written after I played the game in July 2026. There is no nostalgia factor involved, as I did not own an Nintendo 64 during my childhood. My first experience with the N64 was in 2025. I give this game a score of 5/10, and I'm being generous out of respect for how innovative it was at the time. The biggest problem is the camera. Its angle often breaks the gameplay and makes the game much harder than it should be, because the camera determines how the control stick must be moved to make Mario go in the direction you want. Since the camera is frequently awkward and sometimes cannot be positioned correctly, you often end up moving Mario while trying to guess the correct direction, leading to mistakes. Sometimes those mistakes are very costly because many areas are difficult and time-consuming to reach. Today, the game has been thoroughly explored and documented, so it's easier to know what to do. However, back when it was released, I feel sorry for the players who had to discover some of its secrets on their own. Many of them are not intuitive at all and provide little to no indication of what the player is supposed to **** game does have many great ideas. The Wing Cap and Metal Cap are fun additions, this is where the triple jump originated, and Mario could punch and kick, mechanics that unfortunately did not return in later games. Mario's health system is also interesting, consisting of six segments that can be restored by collecting coins. The graphics are undoubtedly innovative for their time. Being mostly rendered in 3D, they still hold up surprisingly well today and maintain a solid visual quality. The gameplay, however, leaves much to be desired. Mario slips far too easily in certain areas, and once he starts sliding, he continues for an annoyingly long time. The level design is not particularly creative, and the decision to place multiple objectives within the same stages makes them feel repetitive. The game's length is also artificially inflated through unfairly difficult challenges that, if failed, often require the player to repeat long, tedious, and frustrating routes just to attempt them again. Many enemies are also quite unintelligent. Their main threat is not that they attack or defeat you, but that they get in your way and cause you to fall into a pit or off a platform. Peach's Castle, where the player selects stages, is also frustrating to navigate. Finding the level you want can be annoying, and it's easy to get lost and waste time wandering around without accomplishing anything. Overall, the game is fun and entertaining, but it relies on cheap and frustrating design choices to extend its total playtime. This perspective comes from a player attempting to collect all 120 Stars. Perhaps someone playing only to defeat Bowser and finish the game as quickly as possible would come away with a different impression. It differs significantly from Super Mario World, where the difficulty increased gradually and organically and felt just right. The progression felt smooth, and you knew what you needed to do to overcome a challenge. In Mario 64, on the other hand, many things are done through trial and error or by simply taking a guess. One aspect I consider excellent is the game's music and sound effects.

Super Mario 64 didn’t just launch the Nintendo 64—it invented 3D platforming as we know it. The analog stick controls, open-ended level design and Mario’s fluid movement felt revolutionary in 1996. Collecting 120 stars across Peach’s Castle remains endlessly satisfying, with timeless charm and creativity. The camera can be clunky by today’s standards, but that’s a tiny flaw in an otherwise perfect, genre-defining masterpiece.

Where do I begin? I play on 3D all stars on the switch. The camera is so bad. The controls are sloppy. Mario's momentum ****. You need to find a star based on one sentence. I wasted 2 and a half hours of 3 of my screen time and had to stop playing because I got so mad. Why did nintendo not give this a full overhaul remake? I mean, why would they? The game ****.

Super Mario 64 is my favorite video game of all time. Not because it's a perfect experience with zero flaws. Not because it's the most beautiful or the easiest to jump into with modern sensibilities. Not even because it transformed the face of gaming by making the jump to 3D. It's because when it first launched, it forever changed what my nine-year-old self thought video games could be. And that's an experience I'll never take for granted. It can be hard to explain what seeing Super Mario 64 was like for the first time. Standing at a Toys "R" Us demo unit as two other kids my age ran around Bob-omb Battlefield, one insisting his friend not reveal the secret of backflipping to me for some reason. Kids are jerks. We didn't understand camera controls or moving in a 3D environment. We certainly didn't grasp the concept of borders or sky boxes giving the impression of an endless world to explore. It all seemed so vast and infinite. But that was the joy of exploring this world and coming to understand how all the pieces fit together. Of course we know how everything works now, but there was a magic there, and you could feel the shift into something bigger coming. All that said, a revolutionary idea can still fail spectacularly if done poorly. Thankfully Miyamoto and his team at Nintendo created something as wonderful, creative, and memorable as any of the previous 2D titles. They took the simple plot of Bowser capturing Peach, expanded on it by making her castle the central hub, increased Mario's move set by giving him the ability to perform feats of acrobatics, and made the end goal the collection of Power Stars found in the various painting worlds. This was no longer about clearing a course. You had stars to collect and specific tasks you needed to perform to get them. Clear, simple, and fun. That was what they were shooting for, and they nailed it. I could spend all day going over all the little details they had the forethought to add into this game. The color palette that made everything pop, the level structure, the goals that made exploration rewarding and satisfying, and smaller things like how Mario leans into his run. But you know all this already, it's Super Mario 64. It's been analyzed front to back since it released with more depth than I could possibly give it here. It transcended what had come before it, and inspired an entire generation to continue what it started. This is a game that will always hold a special place for me. It's flawed, it can be clunky at times, and its formula has absolutely been done better with modern technology. But there's no denying the impact of its legacy and the memories it left with those of us lucky enough to have been there from the beginning. There will never be another Super Mario 64.

Man, I don't know how, but... the game deserved a 99/100 (I wanted to say 100/100, but that's practically impossible) instead of a 94/100; man, the game was a total innovation, bringing beautiful 3D graphics, and it's still a blast to play even today.

Super Mario 64 is an essential work in the history of video games and one of the most significant revolutions the medium has ever witnessed. Its transition into 3D not only redefined the franchise but also laid the foundation for countless platformers that followed.Every level is crafted with remarkable creativity, offering challenges, secrets, and exploration opportunities that keep the experience engaging from start to finish. The game introduces groundbreaking mechanics that remain satisfying and intuitive, making the movement of Mario one of the adventure's greatest **** soundtrack is flawless, perfectly complementing each environment and helping create an unforgettable atmosphere. From castles and mountains to underwater and desert stages, every location delivers a constant sense of wonder and discovery.Verdict: An absolute masterpiece that revolutionized 3D gaming and remains one of the most important and influential experiences ever created.

The controls were very hard to play on to be honest. Another thing I did play on official hardware when deciding this on a CRT but just some of the levels were very difficult because the camera angles messed it up.

I played this game in 2004, and I'm not saying this out of nostalgia; I was playing games back then too. I played games like Half-Life, Zelda, Ocarina, and Majoras Mask. Even though my friends didn't like them, I played them, and they were quite good. I think they're still great today. If we could bring Mario back, it would still be playable, but back then, it didn't bother me at all. Furthermore, this game laid the foundation for today's Mario games. Without this game, we might not even see Nintendo today.

This game does have iconic levels like Bomb omb Battlefield and Whomps Fortress but that controls and camera controls aren't good and I get it, it's the first Mario 3D game but still. I would highly recommend people are in the modern generation to play the rom hacks and PC ports of this game (in my opinion).

Even tho this game is old, there isn't a shadow of a doubt that it still is one of the best games of all time and my personal favorite. The jump from 2d to 3d was masive and despite it not being the first 3d game, it sure was the first one to perfect the formula and influence the other games that have since released. The first time seeing that mario face, the castel and even the first level bomb omb battlefield were magical. No game gave me the same feelings as this one did. The controls even tho they may be a bit cluncky at first, were actually so intuitive once you got the hang of them. I have played this on an original n64 console and the controller was a bit of an issue at first, but now it is the only controller that I can play this game on. It's just so precise even tho that stick kinda wiggles around, especially if that bowl part is grinded. The atmosphere of the game is genuinely one of the best in any game I have ever played and whould go on to inspire countless creepypastas because of its liminal vibes. Overall I think this game still holds up, the speedrunning community is masive if you are into that and it has a massive replay value.

This has to be one of the most overrated games of all time. I cannot believe that anyone not tinted by childhood nostalgia could truly give such high ratings to this game. Sure, the game was revolutionary for it's time (but so were other graphically even more impressive games on the PS1), but it has aged poorly and some of it's flaws are unexcusable even for it's time. The good first: Music is pure awesomeness, the Mario flair is always there, there are some good levels and sections, especially in the beginning, and the hub world is really good. But everything else is just mediocre at best: Graphics are not good, the environments are super bland and hurt to look at. Controls are horrendous, whoever designed the camera controls should never ever work on a videogame again. Mario is just so slippery and hard to control at all times, which makes some platforming sections a pain to play. Levels are boring and uninspired, repetetive and mostly just a slug to play through. The worst thing has to be the star system, though. Not only are you kicked out everytime after collecting a single star, it is simply not fun to basically play the same level 10 times with only minor alterations each time. If you haven't played it before I advise you to keep it that way!

What else can I say about this game that everyone else has said. It's a great game start to finish. Yes the camera and the controls aren't the greatest but for the time they are not game breaking. Deserves to be in the top 100 greatest games of all time.

Super Mario 64 is one of those games that truly changed everything. It had a massive influence on the gaming industry by basically setting the standard for how 3D games should control and feel, and that impact is still obvious today. It also became a huge part of speedrunning culture, with players constantly finding new tricks and routes decades after its **** level design is incredible, with open-ended stages that encourage exploration and experimentation instead of forcing you down one path. Every level feels memorable and fun to move around in. The soundtrack is also beautiful and iconic — so many of the tracks are instantly recognizable and perfectly match the mood of each **** top of all that, Super Mario 64 has a special kind of charm that games from that era just seem to have. The simple visuals, quirky animations, and overall vibe give it a personality that still holds up today, even if it’s a bit dated technically.Overall, it’s a timeless classic that’s just as important as it is fun.

Father of modern video games. Timeless. Revolutionary. Captivating. It has so much variety and personality that it doesn't need a novel-like story. A work of art in terms of gameplay and scenery with its worlds. Almost perfect.

Super Mario 64 is a timeless classic and a pioneer, no questions asked. The game has such a sense of liberty and freedom in its movement which, in my opinion, has never really been replicated since. Mario has a ton of moves, all of them flowing together perfectly. For example, you can triple jump out of a side flip, an air kick, from just falling, which makes it all feel really fluid. The music is iconic, and its early 3d visuals are still charming to this day, although reallyoutdated. One of the game's strength is its level design which is mostly based off mario's moveset and makes it satisfying to platform through. Bob-Omb Battlefield, Tick Tock Clock and Wet Dry World are good examples of that just to name a few. By far Mario 64's greatest strength is replayability. With a movement so good and level design to complement it, it makes this game a blast to replay through, trying to complete missions as fast as possible. I will note that the camera can be tricky to use for first time players, but you get used to it pretty quick in my opinion

3. Awalnya Mau Pakai Isometrik Ide awal dari SM64 adalah tampilan isometrik (mirip seperti Zelda: A Link to the Past), tapi mereka cepat menyadari bahwa itu tidak cukup untuk menampilkan dunia yang luas dan penuh kebebasan. 4. 14. Rahasia Di Balik Dinding Super Mario 64 dipenuhi rahasia. 17.
