I played very little of this game because the driving just feels terrible. There's no interesting gimmick or mechanic to make up for it. You just drive around generic tracks in a really slow and out of control car.

I have no clue why the 3ds version is put with the original it’s completely different. This is my least favorite game of all time. Nintendo promised me the mario maker experience on the go and they lied. The whole point of mario maker is to share your levels online and play other people’s creations; you can’t do either in this game. I have been upset about this for a very long time.

This game didn’t click with me. The movement and capture mechanic are both really interesting but ultimately underutilized. The level design is what makes me really upset. It’s so much aimless wondering in areas that don’t feel interesting to explore and you need so many moons to get out of a level you’re not interested in. I wish I loved this game but i couldn’t.

I played this on ps1 but that that’s not an option here. I love this game. The gameplay is basically slower pac-man, but it can get pretty tense at times. More importantly is the vibe. The opening cinematic with a text crawl and terrible 3d graphics. The strange sound affects and noises from the character. But the greatest thing this game offers is its soundtrack. The beats for the this game are so weird but catchy and i hope somebody raps over them it would be fun.

This game is a dopamine deprecation simulator. I don’t know how everyone got so hooked on this during the pandemic because it’s SO boring. Every interaction or use of a mechanic requires 2 menus and 4 dialogue boxes like just let me craft you don’t have to confirm that I want to. I don’t care for any of the characters and the progression is basic. I do not hate slow or “cozy” games this one is just bad.

I know everyone considers this one of the best games ever but it just doesn’t do it for me. I enjoy playing it but the gravity mechanic just doesn’t sound good in theory or practice. Platforming becomes so much more frustrating when the camera is above mario for a ton of the game and having to use the pointer and motion controls just removes any potential for relaxing. The game has an unmatched vibe **** visuals, music, sound, and story come together to make a magical piece of art that I just don’t like playing.

I got this digitally with battlefront I as a kid and was very confused playing it. More recently I replayed a bit and it holds up very well. The fights themselves are very engaging, and for less than “quality” graphics the games pretty immersive.

Jojo's is my favorite piece of fiction ever and I hate this game. The movesets are generic and don't fully express the characters. The combos are incredibly simple and barebones. Some of the character choices are so strange and theres so many vital characters missing, especially as a Jojolion fan. The online straight up doesnt work anymore. Heritage for the future absolutely slams this game and it only has one part involved. I can only hope the next project learns from this.

This game is great but I played it after playing eternal which really lets you see the small, normally unnoticeable issues with it. Despite this the game is still incredible with its gunplay, exploration and general gamefeel.

This is probably my favorite Fromsoft game mechanically but it's missing much of what made the first game so special. Very quickly into the game I was disappointed by the new firelink shrine, mostly because you immediately have to teleport to the next section of the game, but also because of its size and shape. The original firelink shrine felt like your home, where the true journey began, the place you pass by on many trips up and down the map, and truly the only safe place in the game. The characters there felt like a bunch of random people with their own motives and ideas about life in Lordran. Here it feels like all of the characters serve just assist the player in their journey. Lordran always felt like a world you had to struggle to even exist in, and while Dark Souls 3 is generally harder, Lothric feels like it was made for the players experience and not a pre-existing world. However the bosses are really cool, the controls feel great and the game looks spectacular. I will admit that in terms of by the books/fundamental game design it is the highest quality in the series, but its the intentional and accidental breaking of these rules that makes Dark Souls so special. Its a massive step up from Dark Souls 2 but sadly doesn't meet the charm of the first game.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

User Scoreplebian27
Aug 2, 2025
I played this immediately after finishing Dark Souls 1 and that might have ruined my experience with the game. The themes are basically copy pasted from the previous game just with significantly less nuisance and subtlety. The movement is supposed to be more fluid with the extra role directions but somehow it just feels awful. This works fine in the later fromsoft games so I don't know why its so off in this game. I like the powerstancing but the weapons in general might have more variety but they all feel like basic medieval weaponry while a ton of dark souls 1 weapons are feel very specific to world of Lordran. Speaking of which, they completely ditched the awesome interconnected world for a linear, fast travel heavy experience. Making the concept of going hallow into an actual meter is so stupid because it removed the meta aspect of Dark Souls 1 where going hollow meant giving up and turning the game off. The game is visually amazing though and has a cool opening cinematic.

This is my favorite game. A enthralling tale about how people live when they can't die. It explores the pain of continued existence in a world that treats you as lesser than the ones in charge. Drawing from the ideas of Albert Camus, this game shows how no matter the endless monotony and misery life throughs at you, the only option is to continue fighting and surviving. "Don't you dare go hollow" is one of the most poignant and impactful lines I've ever heard. The game breaks many fundamental rules of game design, but it does it in a way that adds to the themes of the game. The game is hard, has one difficulty setting, and endlessly tortures you with frustrating spawn locations and the long traversal. The second half of the game has pretty abysmal level design, and the gameplay doesn't match the complexity of later games. But all of this reflects the parallels the game is creating between life as an undead and our lives in modern society. The world design is so creative with how everything is connected and its insane use of verticality to the point where its almost impossible to translate to a map. This is a story of suicide, classism, and the lies of bourgeoisie.

I have not played that much of this game so It's not really a fair review, but at the same time my lack of interest in continuing is telling. Mechanics that fit perfectly into the first games story and themes just don't make sense anymore in this new context. Dr Lamb is interesting but none of the other characters stand out to me. Using both guns and plasmids at the same time is great update and kind of baffling how it wasn't in the first. The drill is cool.

This is my 2nd favorite game of all time. It's an incredible touching game about the consequences of unregulated capitalism and a thorough critic of Ayn Rand's Objectivism. They explore the role of free-will within the median of video games. The aesthetic of rapture is so enthralling and it has the lore and history to back it up. All of the characters are distinct and charismatic even without meeting them in person. The guns feel great and the plasmids add a wonderful layer of playstyle freedom. I love everything about this game.

I don't get why the reviews for this are so horrible. Its a good game with guns and abilities that are unique and feel good to use. The campaign isn't anything to write home about but its about the quality of the average call of duty game. It has plenty of content with a mostly great hero line up (there's some weird picks). The maps are very hit or miss for me but you have some control over which ones you play. This and the previous game are nowhere the quality of the original two but they are good games.
