It is still a conventional RTS game and has issues with longevity as it can become boring and repetitive, but with the thirty missions and with multiplayer capabilities, you should get your money's worth.

There's a ton of new goodies to like -- new races, new gameplay options, a trading economy model and new interface options. It's certainly a good game, but now the dilemma before me was whether I preferred the original game or its sequel, in terms of interface and game play.

A great game. Really fun to play. There's a lot of things in the game that you don't see in other RTS games that make it stand out for me. If you like RTS games you'll like Star Trek Armada 2.

I can't even begin to count all of the hours I've spent playing and replaying this game over the years. It was the first RTS I experienced, and were it not as good as it is, may have turned me off of the genre. While the story isn't anything special, it is executed with care. The way each race's campaign ties together with the story threaded between them is wonderful. While the graphics are certainly dated, the game still holds up fairly well. Voice acting by original Trek actors and overall very fun gameplay make this a must-have for any Trek or even any RTS fan. Still waiting on Armada III, but I sadly I doubt we'll be seeing one.

While it ends up a solid, more refined, feature robust RTS experience opposed to its progenitor, it's still not the strategic Star Trek game fans such as myself have been so eagerly awaiting.

The crux of the problem is that it’s just plain dull. [Feb 2002, p.74]

While the campaign mode doesn't offer as much arcade action and the new strategic additions actually lessen the overall space combat feel, there's still plenty here for Trek fans and non-Trekkies alike.

Computer Games Magazine
Given the epic scope and the gorgeous visuals, it's a shame that so much extra micromanagement was thrown in and so much of the balance and Trek-ness was crowded out.

Ultimately it is the lack of polish found pretty much everywhere in the game that makes it feel like less of a sequel and more like a pricey Star Trek: Armada MOD.

Overall, as with the original Armada, this game is a fun romp into the future. Scenarios range differently in length and challenge and players play as members of the Federation, Klingons, Romulans and Borg. There is a huge community for this game online and any patches this game may have can be found online.
