Showdown follows the utterly brilliant Unlimited, so the new studio faced a huge challenge. What they came up with is a party spin-off, a decent one but also short-lived, as it offers few minigames (some of which borrow from Asteroids, Elastomania or Flappy Bird). It also features a Sandbox mode, which resembles original Scribblenauts but trails behind it. [05/2018, p.60]

It's astonishing that Shiver couldn't conjure up a decent party game from such great source material. [June 2018, p.118]

It doesn't quite feel like the boundary- pushing fount of innovation the series was originally known for. [Issue #33 – May/June 2018, p. 70]

This game basically has nothing in common with past Scribblenauts titles. It's a terrible Mario Party clone, that is all there is to it.

Pros - Multiplayer up to 4 players - Contains sandbox mode like the original Cons - Awful typing controls - Only 25 minigames - Gets boring after a while - Standard Mario Party clone - More fun to watch a YouTuber play it Overall: 3/10

I don't get the hate, sure it's not a traditional scribblenauts game, but that was made very clear from the first trailer, it's a really fun party game to play with friends or family.

The number of objects that Scribblenauts Showdown allows us to create is higher than ever, but its application and new game modes lack of depth, situating this game halfway to something that could have been great. Nevertheless, Scribblenauts Showdown is really entertaining when playing with friends.

I truly TRULY do not get the hate of this game. I am in my 40's. Played with 2 boys, 10 and 12. And we all had an amazing time playing the board game version of this for an hour. When it was over, the boys said, LETS PLAY IT AGAIN! The game is deep. Also has original sandbox mode with new levels. When they were about to leave, I surprise them by giving them the game as a gift. They were SO excited (and, I will simply buy another one for myself) I am simply BAFFLED at the hate and negativity for this game. Sure, a couple of the mini-games are not top notch. But there are many great ones within. At $40, solid deal. At $20 sale in most places, you have got to be kidding me. Steal it at that price. If you like Scribblenauts or are new to the Scribblenauts world, just buy it.

We hope that Warner Bros knows how to learn from this slide to reflect carefully on the future of its IP: a premature end is certainly not the fate that Scribblenauts deserves.

Yes, it shares the name and the look of those previous games, but it lacks the all-important creative heart of its predecessors, and ends up being a by-the-numbers affair that goes through the motions in a shallow attempt to turn Scribblenauts' unique premise into a multiplayer party game.

Scribblenauts Showdown is a cookiecutter attempt at bringing back a lost franchise. While the party aspect isn't absolutely terrible, its bland nature made me shrug every time. And sure, the game tries to tie it in to the Scribblenauts franchise, but it misfires to an almost comical degree. This would be more funny if it didn't involve games I used to really love.

Scribblenauts Showdown is an incredibly disappointing attempt to resurrect the Scribblenauts franchise. It’s neither a fun party game nor a fun Scribblenauts game and is hard to recommend to anyone unless you’re incredibly desperate for a party game on the Switch.

Scribblenauts Showdown is an interesting take on the series. You have your normal freeroaming mode, but the main attraction is the minigames where you create an object, and do various things with it, such as balancing multiple giraffes on a flying carpet, or having a competition to see who can eat a pair of socks the fastest. The only downside to this game is the price. 40$ is just way too much for something you'll probably only play when you're hanging out with friends, since the singleplayer mode is so unoriginal and unfun.

This game basically has nothing in common with past Scribblenauts titles. It's a terrible Mario Party clone, that is all there is to it.
SummaryThe game is designed primarily to be played with friends: up to four players can partake in "more than" 25 mini-games, which are served up in different forms depending on which mode you select. Showdown is a competitive mode in which finding the best word the quickest is the key, while Versus supplies various mini-games for you and one o... Read More
