RuneQuest: Warlords is a good turn-based strategy experience that will mainly appeal to those who love this fantasy universe or had a great time playing Battlesector. Engagements, especially once the player controls a dozen units, are complex and require careful planning and on-the-spot improvisation to win with minimal losses. The game’s computer opponent can be a little dumb at times, but multiplayer, including using hotseat, is offered for those interested in challenging another human. I would have liked some extra story emphasis on what makes the RuneQuest setting special. Warlords’ core ideas are solid, but it needs more army variety and a few extra weird scenarios to bring in players who aren’t interested in the narrative.

RuneQuest: Warlords delivers a solid tactical experience that stands on the strength of its worldbuilding, clear systems, and remarkably clean UI. It doesn’t aim for the flashiest presentation, and some technical choices keep it from reaching the top of the genre, with audio feedback that could hit harder. Still, it’s a compelling option for players who appreciate thoughtful, position-driven strategy and a grounded entry point into the rich mythos of Glorantha.

If you like Runequest, you might find something to appreciate in this turn-based strategy game. It offers a stable and proven game system with elements of magic. You upgrade your heroes and can tackle many of the missions in different ways. Despite this, there were no gameplay or story-driven surprises. What you see is what you get if you choose to try this game.

The main mistake of RuneQuest: Warlords is that it missed the chance to fix the flaws of Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector. The game didn't surprise me, although overall it turned out to be decent. For fans of RuneQuest, it's a real treat.
