HOMM4 will infect you with what I like to call the "Turn Based Sickness." Symptoms include loss of temporal perception and inability to perform other functions (including bodily) until "just one more turn" has been completed.

Frankly, this game is heroin to its fans. Though seemingly simple, its complex depth will lead to many lost hours.

Nevertheless, the gameplay is very good, not the best but still good enough. The atmosphere and graphics are incredible! To me, it is like the creators started to make something great and never finished it. Unfortunately the game did not get the credit it deserved.

I have started from heroes 4
For me this is one of the best in the series - better than 3HOMM
Give this game a chance

It's really to New World Computing's credit that the developer was able to incorporate so many new and interesting features into this sequel while still making sure it kept all the core elements that made all the previous games so great.

It took 3 years but it was worth the wait.

It plays almost like a new game, but with soothing familiarity that fans of the series will no doubt appreciate.

The spark might be there, but it doesn’t burn as bright as it has in the past.

The new combat system is an almost unmitigated disaster. [July 2002, p.73]

Я люблю другие части серии, но..... Это лучшая номерная часть, идите на**й! Даже со всеми своими огрехами.

Pretty fun game, I sometimes see my father playing it nowadays (2026), it's a very replayable game with some fun RPG mechanics. I encourage you to play any game of this saga at least once before dying hahhah.

Gave it a try few times. It's ok but the downgrade from HoMM III is just too big. Just 6.5 because i expected a lot more.

I recently decided to give this one a go. I've played pretty much every other HOMM game from 1 to 7, but this one never managed to capture me. After a few hours of the campaign, I'm baffled how anyone thought some of the decisions made for that game were any good. HOMM3 is a masterclass of simple complexity. This is the exact opposite. While later HOMM entries suffer from a chronic lack of content, here the issue is very different. The map is barely readable. What is terrain and what is object blends seamlessly and while that may appeal to a rookie art director, it's hell for gameplay. The change in the tile map makes every move unpredictable. You can't know where your hero or unit will go because the grid is so abstract. The animations and overall art style are laughably terrible. The campy style of HOMM2 tower above this one. It's not all bad. There are some glimpses of brilliance in there. The music is absolutely stunning I can listen to it for hours. Some of the skill and spell choices are pretty good and provide a ton of options, if the rest was executed better. Heroes in battle is interesting, though poorly done. They are either completely useless or god-killing murder machines. Overal, it is a pretty bad game. I gave it a fare chance but don't regret skipping it.
