Any gamer knows that there are a ton of great racers out there, but unfortunately RGX: Showdown is not one of them. This is a game that comes with a severely limited premise and even though it’s initially very addictive, the repetition that it brings eventually wins over any racing dreams.

An atypical 1vs1 futuristic racer with an addictive one-hour tournaments structure. Too bad it lacks more complexity and depth: it could have strived for much better results.

RGX: Showdown is a thrilling and wildly fast paced minute-by-minute racer. The game’s generous asking price is easily justified by its healthy content depth, and although some niggling issues hold it back from greatness, I cant think of any other racer on the market that offers this much fun for such little cost. Don’t be alarmed by its lack of promotion. RGX: Showdown is well worth your attention.

I like that the races are short and sweet because it makes each race exciting and it means you can jump into a large number of races in a short space of time. The controls are simple but effective and they remained fluid and responsive throughout each race I competed in. Thankfully the online side of the game works really well and I didn’t have to wait very long to get into a race. There is a decent amount of replaybility present thanks to the different items you can unlock by completing and winning races. The presentation side of the game is nothing special and both the visuals and sound design are very basic with not much immersiveness present in them. Unfortunately the game doesn’t have much depth to it and the lack of modes and no solo option may put some people off even if the price of the game is low. I would’ve liked to have been able to do more to my car because there isn’t much in terms of customisation available to you. I must admit that I didn’t know anything about RGX: Showdown because it was a surprise release this week and I went into playing this game not knowing what to expect because of this. After a sinking a few hours in it became quite clear that the game is best enjoyed in short bursts because it does lack in terms depth. I will say though that the game is pretty fun and enjoyable despite its lack of depth and I really liked the idea of the races being short and sweet. I was also impressed with the controls as well because they’re simple to get to grips with and they remained tight and responsive throughout each race. One aspect of the game I was a little disappointed with was the presentation side of the game because there isn’t anything that really stands out in both the visuals and sound design but these little shortcomings still didn’t stop me from returning back to the game. This then means that RGX: Showdown does just enough to get a small recommendation from me even if it does lack in certain areas because it is fun and exciting when played in short bursts.
