Pokémon TCG Pocket is a truly fantastic mobile game that will keep you opening the app daily — and as long as it stops at once a day, you’ll probably love the experience. If you’re going back for more and more, like me, you’re inevitably going to run out of things to do. Pace yourself, enjoy the experience, and I promise you that Pokémon TCG Pocket is one of the best card games a casual TCG fan can play. At the very least, it’s better than Twitter.

While the invisible hand of compulsion and in-game spending lingers, Pokémon TCG Pocket benefits from smartly interwoven systems and, crucially, just a darn good underlying card game.

As it stands, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is extremely simple, and therefore quite enjoyable to engage with, and besides, after the first hour or so, you can easily just check in every day or two and open some packs.

Pokémon TCG Pocket delivers a nostalgic, low-commitment card game experience for collectors and newcomers alike. If you can bypass the general slow progression then TCG Pocket can be your favorite time pass.

The Pokémon TCG Pocket must be analyzed for what it is, that is, a mammoth but clearly evolving work. It is the most ambitious digitalization ever of the popular card game, as well as the main attempt to modernize its core mechanics in a few years now. From a technical point of view, the mobile app is well made and collectors will be happy to spend hours and hours immersed in decks, binders and displays of their favorite Pokémon. At the same time, a sparing distribution of the rarest cards risks undermining the experience of all users, from those who just want to "catch 'em all" to those who aim to experiment with as many competitive decks as possible. For this latter type of player, however, the biggest obstacle to overcome is the simplicity not only of the mechanics, greatly streamlined compared to the originals, but also of the cards themselves. Simplicity that can make sense in an introductory set, of course, but which must absolutely give way to deeper strategies in the near future.

All told, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket's collection loop is heavily monetised with about six too many currencies to keep track of, but the kinetic feeling of opening packs and pulling gorgeous cards of your favourite Pokémon transcends most of the annoyance that the monetisation causes. The battles, on the other hand, function as a great baseline for newcomers but currently lack the competitive or strategic edge to invest a lot of time into them. In this way, Pokémon TCG Pocket mirrors the real-world TCG as the collection aspect once again proves much more appealing than battling despite reworked mechanics.

I enjoy Pokemon TCG Pocket the most when I hardly play it at all. Logging in daily to do my free pack pulls and claim my free rewards is a simple and quiet life. However, the more time I spend in the app, the more frustrated I become with the game’s negative feedback loops and manipulative systems. I’ll undoubtedly check in for new events and the eventual Pokedex expansions, but as a lifelong fan of this franchise, it’s best that I keep Pokemon TCG Pocket at an arm’s-length.

The game is good for a card game but there still are important issues that made the game lose a lot of players. First i think are all the screens that appear while your just trying to open a pack or redeem some missions: The amount of time you clicking skip and the amount of loadings make the game very underwhelming. My second issue is about trading. Since this is a TCG so “TRADING card game”, trading the cards should matter. And it being a virtual game, should make it easier because you dont have to be next to a friend. Wrong. Because you can only trade with your friends and when both of you agree to send the invite to do so. The older tcg pokemon games was much better in this: you could post online your trade and people could accept or make another offer. This would help a lot of people to complete their set, since its INSANELY hard to do without spending lots of money. Overall the game is very enjoyable: quick matches, fun games with lots of cards and decks that can make you rank up and skill are a must. I only hope that they will increase the rewards at least in ranked battles, giving you more like in the older game and more frequently, not just at the end of the month.

You buy digital cards but you don't have the freedom to trade them, the whole secondary market of trading, buying and selling that makes TGC beautiful doesn't exist, really a **** would have been enough to put a fee on exchanges.
