Everyone called it a masterpiece; for me it never clicked. The bond with your car is a genuinely original idea and the atmosphere has great moments, but the loop between runs gets tedious fast. I kept waiting to fall in love. Never happened. Good game, not my game.

The aesthetic is amazing, the car is amazing, but lacks variability (unless you dabble with mods). The game was made around the mechanical loop and not the narrative so the story **** a little bit, but it is still enjoyable, even if it is always in the background.

One of the most unique, immersive, and interesting games I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, Pacific Drive is an atmospheric survival horror game that sees the player venturing out of their mechanic shop into S.T.A.L.K.E.R-like, post-apocalyptic zones and hopefully bringing back as much loot as possible to upgrade and manage their car, shop, and personal arsenal of tools and protective clothing. In short, it is a roguelite, open-zone exploration survival game, wrapped within a car-management game, with a creepy atmosphere and an interesting story to boot. Huh, reading that back, I guess that isn't as short as I thought it was in my head. How the developers managed to get all of these pieces to work as well as they do is beyond me. On paper, this just seems like a bad idea. A "too many cooks in the kitchen" situation. Too many different genres, which will inevitably devolve into a forgettable pool of mediocrity. Yet as you're experiencing this game for the first time, after a while, all of it just gels together into one fantastic, cohesive whole. Even as I finished the story, I was still encountering new anomalies and wacky conditions that the game was throwing my way. I am still unsettled by the game's ambiance, even though I'm pretty sure that nothing is actually out there making those noises... I think? I hope! At the time of writing this review, the only thing I want is to return for more runs out into its anomaly-infested zones. Your car is everything. Your guidance, your light, your best friend as you just briefly escape the dangers of the zone, and your worst enemy when a tire pops at the wrong moment, when it decides to develop a quirk that annoys you to no end, or when a ghost decides to inhabit it and starts playing with all the buttons. Because of this, you'll become very well acquainted with it and all of its adorable quirks. While you're on one of your runs, you have to take care of the gear shifting, lights, wipers, radio, and all manner of things, which just deepens the game's immersive feeling and deepens your connection with this inanimate object inside a video game. Things that seem tedious at first (repairing every single part of your car) slowly turn into quiet, meditative moments where you collect your thoughts in the safety of your garage as you prepare for another run where that goddamn car will take most of the beating for you as you refuse to turn on the headlights so that you can save a microjoule of battery energy, just for you to inevitably drive face-first into a humongous rock at 50 mph. And while I do sincerely believe that the game might be a bit too easy (in fairness, there are higher difficulty settings that I just haven't gotten to yet) and that a few more things could have been thrown into the mix to better keep the facade of the entire experience, I ultimately love basically everything this experience has to offer.

Pros: - great idea: anomalous zone with a car as your companion - loads of ways to upgrade your car and garage - eerie atmosphere - various anomalies that make your life difficult and annoying Cons: - story - repetitiveness - underdeveloped idea of a driver's "psychic" link to a car - game fail sometimes in explaining its mechanic

One of the more underrated games I’ve played so far. Although Pacific Drive can be frustrating at times, especially in the early game, slowly upgrading your car and garage feels rewarding and lets you overcome much of what the game throws at you. Overall, I would describe it as more of a planning and preparation experience, where carefully weighing risk and reward plays a crucial role. In terms of bugs, I did encounter some minor UI bugs, mainly issues with text not having proper line height at times, causing some overlap. The story is fine. I don't expect a roguelite game to have a deep narrative, and here it feels more like a bonus to the gameplay, as well as a way to prevent players from reaching endgame areas too quickly. I'm assuming some people are trashing this game for the devs being "woke", which comes in the form of certain stickers you can put on your car. Although I'm not a fan of it personally, especially since they feel so out of place in a game like this, it doesn't take away from the gameplay let alone to the point where it ruins the game.

Very buggy and very very bad tutorials even on the ps5, they did not port the game properly , cannot pass the first 20 minutes because of the ui bugs

At first the game looks inovative. It is trying to emulate how stalker should have been with anomalies, the graphics are great, but the game play is dull, repetitive, uninovative and for the whole game it is just a bunch of audio files that that you hear in prescripted order. The whole game feels like a chore - very similar to ship graveyard :D Where you update your equipment to be able to deconstruct ships faster, rince and repeat.

Table game experience. Usually a game starts by establishing the goal for the gamer to keep going. This is as flat as it gets. For some reason you are in trouble and you must survive. Then you are thrown into your mission with little explanation. I ended up dying because the game is not clear in how you should get out of the level to begin with. The game asked me to repeat the mission which was already boring just because it cannot explain itself.

This game captures the feeling of Kavinsky’s “outrun” album. Those late night drive vibes are what kept me engaged even if the story wasn't all that. The game loop of searching for materials to upgrade and maintain this anomalous car kept me engaged for a solid while. Towards the end of the tech tree though, it gets a bit too grindy for my liking. I wish the upgrades were paced a bit better to match the story too. Taking about the story, it’s a mess. Start to finish, there's nothing there to keep you engaged. Your just aimlessly following some voices on a radio, that never leads to a meaningful conclusion. Had such potential with the setting and the anomalous nature of the car. Never leads to anything. Last thing I’ll say is, the music on the radio slaps, bunch of indie small name artists that belt banger while you drive around the zone. Few of those tunes definite have a spot on my playlist. 5/10 Kinda a fan of this “Hybrid Automobile”

Pacific Drive is a survival game unlike any other, turning the car into the protagonist and delivering an atmospheric, tense, and creative experience. While it struggles with repetition and demanding systems, it stands out as a remarkable work for those who enjoy exploration and crafting with a unique identity.

Instead of the promised sci-fi mystics the whole story is about gay relations instead (and every single character here is gay), with post-apocalypse just a background. The rest of the game time is about looting garbage bins.

This game is fantastic! It has some of the best, most satisfying visuals and gameplay i've ever seen!Driving around in the different zones, **** metal off abandoned cars and and dodging all the anomalies feels so epic. I really like the way you upgrade both your car and auto-shop. The voice-acting and story is very good and **** mysteries of the exclusion zone, the storms, the anomalies and large structures in the background and the horrifying ambient sounds makes the game feel very immersive and **** driving is realistic and you have to take care of your car by syphoning fuel from other cars or fuel barrels, repairing your car with blowtorches, sealing kits and other **** car customization is great. You can add decals and change the color of the car with paint and decal kits you find in the zone. You can also kit the cars with tons of upgrades.I drive. whould remove my memory to experience again!

Score: 7.5 It didn't catch me the hook, i got the hook but i found myself forcing me to play instead of wanting to play. It's a very cool idea the execution of run's to advance story and get resources for the car that you "are", with immense upgrades and costumization. The story itself was cool and weird. Visually it's art style is also one of the strong points. But unfortunately, it justdidn't connect with me, i played for 12h. But i believe others love it soo i'd recomend it to anyone to try it out!

An enjoyable and intriguing game, that does taper off in the latter portions. The beginning parts are very interesting as you're trying to figure out what's going on with both the car and the world and how everything works. There's a good amount of customizations and accessories available for the car to allow you to play different ways, though the process to unlock everything is a bit tedious and unless you unnecessarily grind, you'll finish the game well before you unlock everything. Though by the end you end, you know how all the anomalies work and don't really need any supplies. I'd personally recommend just playing the story required missions so you don't get tired of the game. It's a survival game wrapped in a horror-discovery-exploration game.

I got this game in deep sale and I don't regret single cent. No, it's not perfect and it can be nerve-wracking but its unique style and gameplay make it very interesting game. If the studio makes a sequel and tunes some of the mechanics, it could be really something.

This game will waste your time, brutally, and shamelessly, because the devs wanted to artificially prolong the boredom of player driving through the map. It will make you rage quit. It's so poorly designed and optimized it's a wonder the devs released it in this sorry state. Also the writing is bad. I get it, most of the games are poorly written these days but with this one, it's like it's written by 12yo kids. A massive waste of time. I give it 1 point for the cool idea, but it was wasted anyway.

this looks good at first, but why in the f*************k do they think anyone wants to listen to these dumb imagine dragons vocals? there's no option to mute them, and i was vibing with the game quite a bit for about 10 seconds until the singing began. who genuinely thinks that this was a good addition to what appears to otherwise be a pretty cool game? it's outrageously pretentious.

Cannot understand the positive review. This game is frustrating and lack of guide at the start. After getting used to those systems, it get tedious, annoying, repetitive and too grindy. Extremely punishing for a failed run, and will lost 2 to 3 hours for nothing. But this game have some cool ideas, maybe it is not for me. Also, the performance is still bad after 1 year of fixing.

Summary It's one of my favorite games of the year. It gets very challenging, and the late game gets a little grindy, but that’s part of its charm. Gameplay The gameplay loop is incredibly well-designed. You plan out your expedition, tweak and repair your car, then head out into the zone. Driving through the eerie, rain-drenched landscapes while evading freaky anomalies feels like you’re in a constant fight for survival. Meanwhile, your car is actively falling apart, leaving gnarly track marks in the mud as you push it to its limits. Picture this: your tire pops in the middle of a storm. You’re forced to jump out and craft a sealing kit from the scraps you scavenged earlier. The radioactive storm is closing in fast, lightning crackles overhead, and the Geiger counter on your dash is screaming bloody murder. You slap the patch on, leap back into the car, and floor it. You barely make it through the gateway, skidding into your trusty garage, where you breathe a sigh of relief before starting the whole wild cycle again. Absolute chaos, but the best kind. Art Design / Visuals The world is gorgeous, ominous, and beautifully realized. It’s like a cursed, Twin Peaks-inspired fever dream of small-town backroads. Long, winding paths weave through a misty, foreboding landscape that feels both surreal and oddly familiar. The anomalies are bizarre but somehow grounded in their creepiness. They make you go, “What the hell was that?” every single time. It’s unsettling in the best way. Graphics and Performance Weirdly more taxing on your PC than you’d expect from its visual style. I’ve heard theories that this is because the game processes a second image of the world for your mirrors, and yeah, the smoke and fog effects don’t help. That said, it’s mostly smooth sailing, and when it’s running well, it’s stunning. Sound Design / Music The sound design is chef’s kiss. The radio chatter crackles with an authentic vibe, your tires squelch and crunch in the mud, raindrops drum on the windshield, and the wind howls like it’s alive. The ambient sounds of the zone—those creepy, otherworldly noises—never stop making your skin **** soundscape adds an irreplaceable layer to the immersion. You’ll feel the tension every time the weird hum of an anomaly sneaks up on you. Menu / Navigation / UI The UI takes some getting used to, but once you’re familiar with it, the design choices make sense. Most of the crucial information is integrated into the car’s dashboard and instruments, which amps up the immersion. Repairing and operating the car can feel a bit unusual at first, but it quickly becomes second nature. Final Thoughts Pacific Drive is a thrilling and atmospheric ride that nails the balance between tension, exploration, and resource management. If you’re into survival games with a unique spin, a touch of cosmic horror, and a heavy dose of car-based tinkering, you’ll love it. Just be ready to fight tooth and nail for every inch of progress—and keep a sealing kit handy.

The game starts out pretty strong with the player stumbling into a science run amok scenario that's led to an entire region being walled off for public protection. The characters you meet are initially interesting, and your exploratory trips in your car out into The Zone gradually map out the world you've found yourself in. Unfortunately, as your time with the game progresses, each element begins to sink into **** procedurally regenerated world becomes less threatening over time, and it's easy to accumulate enough resources to completely rebuild your car from scratch multiple times if things go badly, and once you acquire a shield, all danger is immediately trivialized. Each prefab story set piece you come across is initially intriguing, but there's no reason to ever revisit any of them, and the rest of the world gets boring quickly.Storywise, the initial intrigue of the setting serves as a nice introduction to the small cast of characters, but despite some nice touches here and there, the overarching story turns out to be a giant nothingburger. The characterization descends quickly into the melodramatic, the side-content that's supposed to fill in the gaps chases it own tail in circles, and the secrets and lies that are uncovered just aren't anywhere near significant enough to hold **** that about sums up the whole game. A few glimmering shards of promise among a mediocre sea of blandness. Performance is pretty poor, with no graphical qualities that might excuse the frame rate deficit. Watch a Let's Play on YouTube and then forget about it.

Pacific drive is definitely a hugely underrated and even overhated game, its got an amazing gameplay loop, and an intriguing story albeit with bland and uninteresting characters, which can be overlooked considering the nature of the game, it gives a feeling which I've only ever experienced as a part of another game and not as a game in of itself, which is: feeling like you're on a road trip. A lot of the hate directed towards this game is either directed towards the developers and their political views or towards the performance of the game, the first of which is a stupid thing to even attempt to discuss ,and the latter being true, one last thing id like to mention is that the game has little playtime before it gets boring and repetitive, you can unlock all the car upgrades in around 7 hours, which renders the side quests they put useless, as you'll be bored before you even finish the game if you finish them, overall the game is very enjoyable, the radio songs suit the atmosphere very well, it's exactly what you'd expect, a survival driving game which doesn't do anything crazy, it does just enough for it to be good.

For the first hour this game bugged me. There is a lack of intro, tutorial or depth and it worried me. At about 5 hours I had found some rhythm and had had moments of enjoying it, the song list being the main one- it works for the mood. At 8 hours I was worried by it's repetitive nature. At 10 hours I was done and irritated. - Play list of music is too short. - Boring characters (if we can even call them that). - Boring and repetitive play. At 10 hours I still wasn't quite sure what I was doing but had entirely stopped caring figuring things out. - The entire game projects dark, twisted, emo thoughts and it's not healthy. It's also not clever it's just assaulting to the senses. It almost appears to idolise bad mental health. It became cloying and horrible. - The driving mechanics are off which adds to the experience of the last point. It's wonky, it's out by a factor of mental twist. - The voice acting of the three stooges is also... dark and weird. I get what the game is going for but I am actually seriously worried about the people who developed this game, somebody needs to give them a check up.

The game was not what I expected. I expected it to be a car survival game with a plot, but it turned out that the game is only explored for the first third, then everything becomes easy and the game becomes a visual novel. At the end, I was just driving a car and reading the story, there was almost no gameplay, it was one-sided. The plot itself is reminiscent of another control game, but even at the end almost nothing is explained, so the residue remained. There were brakes and lags in the initial versions of the game. If you want an atmospheric car ride with a plot, this game will definitely work, but ADD UKRAINIAN LOCALIZATION NEXT TIME PLEASE! In general, I liked the game, it would be nice if there was more gameplay variety.

The game is quite monotonous at first, you have to explore everything that comes your way and only after 5 hours of play time it gets better through excitingly designed worlds. You spend the whole game on the bench. The story is okay but nothing special.

The game is very interesting in the beginning, but from the middle of the game becomes boring and tedious, in the finale in general there was a feeling that it is made hastily and as a hit, because of what abruptly breaks the game and makes all the efforts of the player to get out of the zone just in vain, in addition, many things that are opened for anchor energy are useless, and such as a blowtorch is never used in the game, I say this as a person who opened all possible items and visited all the forks. In addition, the game is absolutely not optimized, I have such a PC: i7-8700, GTX1650, 16RAM, and at the same time I have a game almost at minimum settings gave 40 FPS and poor graphics, as if everything is made of plasticine, for comparison in RE2,RE3,RE4 Remake I have at maximum settings stable 60 FPS. Despite all the shortcomings of, the game had excellent potential, which unfortunately the developers could not realize properly.

I wanted to like this game but I just didn't have much fun with it. There is too much menu work, and the default light setting is way too dark so it was impossible to see anything during night missions until I found out you could adjust it. (I can't remember the last time I played a game where the light level is this important but it doesn't ask you at the very start to adjust the slider until the image on the left is barely visible.) Even worse, you can spend a couple of hours on a mission only to fail at the last moment if the terrain isn't in your favor. This happened to me with the mission where I had to activate 3 stabilizers around a map. The random terrain generator gave me too many long winding roads and steep hills my vehicle couldn't climb, so I was unable to escape the red corruption that comes at you fast in the end. I activated the stabilizers successfully, so that should have passed the mission, but it still said I failed. If I wanted to have all my plans thwarted at the last moment by a random number generator, I'd play XCOM. I see this game's potential, but I just didn't enjoy it.

The game starts great but after some hours you start to notice that everything is the same, is very repetitive. Even worse is that for some missions is required you travel through some routes that makes you loose time, i know is made for you to gather resources but later in the game you have them and theres no need to repeat over and over these roads, at least give an option to skip all these stuff. Theres a mission that it was 40 minutes of driving though maps that look all the same and 10 minutes of scanning 3 paints and nothing more. The performance is bad on PC. It has some cool looking sci fi parts but not much more.

Surprised it got in the 7 range for user score. Deserves at least an 8 imo. The tech reminds me of Aperture tech from portal. Love how there are many different damages that can happen to your car and you need a variety of different tools to fix them. For instance your tire can become flat, cracked, loose, or just become damaged beyond all repair. You need a specific tool depending on the damage. Most games consider the car you drive as one solid object. But this game considers your car as many different pieces put together to form your car. Which is awesome. I'm only about 15-20 hours in. The only beef I Have with the game is I wish you could save more often. I'd give it a 9 otherwise.

Phenomenal game with a very unique genre mix - supernatural (off)road racing simulation packed into a story-based survival game! I love the thrilling atmosphere, when you drive through the forests and when you brace yourself for what may lie ahead of you, followed by yet another adrenalin rush every time you race your way out of this breathtaking chaos. The soundtrack is amazing! How did the devs find such catchy, yet previously unheard-of songs? The fully dubbed main story was a delight to listen to and the flavour texts in the log menu also build up a lot of atmosphere. The car really nails the nostalgic look and it's fun to have your own back-to-the-future-like project going on in the workshop. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ This game could absolutely pull off a way higher price tag, given the quality it carries from start to finish and the amount of play time it offers. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ There are a few things which could be better, but its strengths outweigh its weaknesses by far: + super well-executed genre mix with great attention to details + the way of driving and operating the car works surprisingly well + impressive artistic staging combined with pleasent procedural level design + intriguing story with nice hooks and charming voice actors + amazing soundtrack with catchy rock to synthwave vibes and fitting lyrics (also available on Spotify so you can keep on vibin'! ) - gameplay gets a bit repetitive after 30 hours (still, the story remains interesting) - it's cumbersome when you'r crafting stuff in your workshop and resources are used from your car first, so you'll have to restock your car meticulously before EVERY ride- late-game car modifications costs are too high, it would be way too much grinding to unlock them - 90% of the cosmetics are underwhelming (which suprised me, because all gameplay-relevant car modifications look rad!?) - workshop layout feels unintuitive - some enemies can be way too frustrating - there are some bugs (regarding save system, the quick slot menu, the quest HUD, localisation errors) ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ DLC when? I would also absolutely love to see this game being turned into a full-on survival game in the likes of Don't Starve or Scrap Mechanic, where you can decide where to set up your workshop, go for a drive to gather resources as you do now and slowly build a formidable life in the Olympic Exclusion Zone!

The detailed repair and upgrading of your car is a great concept. Combined with the supernatural worlds, exploration and the story it works well .Pro tip: set it so you don't lose all your gear when you die, that's annoying. The only thing is that it ends quite quickly before you even had to upgrade your car to the best stuff.

Game plays amazing up until you start entering the mid zone then you quickly realize that a 45 minute to 2+ hour run can and will be killed off by the simple fact that when you complete certain main story mission objectives you will not have sufficient time to reach your escape portal and as a result will have to redo the run with worse conditions. This one "mechanic" has ruined the entire game for me. as I hate having to do stuff over.

It's a small 6 for me, the idea is nice, the worlds (small ones) are sometimes quite beautiful, but there is not much driving, you come through small worldspaces and when driving through them you're constantly interrupted by either anomalies you have to get around, often slowing down to a crawl and then get out again to get some resources (cause if you don't get resources you can't upgrade), building doesn't take all that much resources, but upgrading takes a unholy amount of resources that are often hard to find like 60 thermosap crystals for a single upgrade, which take you 15 hours to find, so it's a incredible grind for resources and a lot of repetition in circumventing anomalies that are pretty much always the same. So it's rinse and repeat and **** a huge timesink. Shame cause i wanted to enjoy the story, but that's not doable in a reasonable amount of time took me 30 hours to get into the mid zone and i got kinda tired of it. When i started playing the game it felt refreshing, after 30 hours i think Starfield was even better, and thats saying a lot cause Starfield isn't that good either. I was actually going to give it a 5, but because the idea seems a bit refreshing, i gave it a 6, but it couldn't keep me engaged anymore .after 30 hours.. I have games that i have played for many hundreds of hours andthey still didn't tire me out, that says something about this game imo. Oh, and the UI is dramatically bad, and the stories/explanations in there are kinda silly alltogether..a lot of silly joking in there that's getting old quick. The music and soundtrack are perfect though, the atmosphere overal is pretty good, shame that they didn't make the quests more story ****'s hit and miss with this game.

Pacific Drive is the best kind of road trip. One where weird stuff lies around every corner, bizarre characters tune in and out of your headset and the atmosphere is thick enough to drown in. It takes a short while to get acclimated to its systems and controls, but once you do it’s an utter blast. Also, if you don’t feel like dealing with the “survival” elements, don’t be afraid to check the options. You can adjust or even turn off things like “damage” and “durability“, which is great if you’re feeling at all overwhelmed at first.
