6 - Good. Artistically, I enjoy this game more than either of the Hazelight co-op releases. Genuinely perfect realization of the 80’s anime aesthetic put in smooth and snappy 3D motion. The narrative tone and character tropes from that era are also revived with great fidelity. Continuing the comparison with Hazelight, Orbitals’ decision to decouple unique mechanics from the 2 selectable player characters was a great change. My wife and I would take turns using different tools and not being restricted to playing with only one half of the games unique mechanics was very nice. I also enjoyed having a proper hub to hang around at and play mini games. Where orbitals doesn’t quite reach Hazelights pedigree is in its level and boss design. They don’t commit any grave sins, but don’t push the envelope further in any respect. The co-op traversal puzzles are a little samey - a product of using the same 4 tools from start to end. A potentially better system allowing for more puzzle diversity could’ve been to have all these tools at each characters disposal on something like an item wheel to switch between on the fly, making even the act of selecting between them a puzzle of its own. Lastly, I feel it’s important to note that evaluating this game as a product highlights one regrettable flaw - it’s an incredibly short game. Comparable in content to StarFox 64, but the latter is a lot more replayable. Important to consider when making your purchase.

This is a very good game and you can tell that it has been made with a lot of love. Visuals are stunning and It is very fun to play overall. For me it is a bit short and it is one or two steps below the benchmark in the genre: It takes two / Split Fiction. It comes complete on the cartridge and that's a big plus, I am supporting them for that. Got my copy for 40€ and that's a fair price.

This game did not meet my expectations. To be fair, all I had heard about this game was that is was a Co-Op game akin to It Takes Two set in space and in a retro anime style, which it definitely is. But I guess I overestimated the depth of the game's systems. I found the ship navigation/combat to be woefully simple. Even when my partner and I had some difficulty, it was never for long. And there was not nearly enough of it. Outside of the visual style, the atmosphere of the space environments felt dull and further added to my boredom while playing through the ship portions. The puzzle platformer sections are more enjoyable, but for the most part very simplistic and equally linear. My partner (who is a fairly casual gamer) agreed that the puzzles were pretty easy. Why does the game tell you what items you need before starting a mission? Doesn't that remove all the trial and error that comes with a puzzle game??? We breezed through the game in about 6 hours. The final main area is when the game finally started to feel like iNarratively, the story is lackluster. Plot information is exposited and then suddenly reintroduced with great import but zero emotional weight. The characters are shallow archetypes, which definitely fits in with the retro anime style, but is frustrating when so much of the emotional arc hinges on you buying into the main characters emotional connection with the colony and it's inhabitants, and I felt none of that. How am I supposed to care about a home base when you spend absolutely zero time there? Overall, I got caught up in the hype, and was left wanting much more than this game could deliver. Orbitals is all flash, and very little substance.

one of the most beautiful cooperative games out there. some mecanics are great and others are good things that we saw in oders games. Great music, and acting voice. Is great to have this games for all family.

The gameplay feels a little bit tacking ... the mobility is not good but the artist design feels magical and charming.

Just finished this game with my friend and what a beautiful little experience this was! The aesthetic and animation perfectly replicates the 90s anime style, the levels are wonderfully designed and have a great level of difficulty to them and the characters are very charming! If you’re looking for an OUT OF THIS WORLD 2 player game with a family member or a friend, you can’t go wrong with Orbitals! 10/10 I highly recommend!!

This is a special game. We need to see more creativity and originality like this in the industry. Stop what you're doing and play this.

I recommended this game to anyone that loves retro anime and wants to experience something different with a friend or family member. I love the esthetic, the atmosphere and the music. I have not completed the game 100% but so far I’ve been enjoying playing with my friend. The other cool feature of this game is that you only need one copy of the game to play it. And the other person doesn’t even have to own a Nintendo Switch 2 to help you in this journey. I share my copy of the game with a friend by using Gamechat when his not near, and it works wonderful. You can also play it locally with a second controller or by using GameShare. You can also play online with another person that owns the game. It really gives you multiple ways to enjoy this experience with another player. The other great thing is that it came as a full physical cartridge, and for the price I think is worth it! I have been enjoying the story so far, the gameplay feels snappy and the voice acting is 10/10! You also have multiple languages that you can change for added customization and accessibility. It might be a short game but this game deserves recognition and I would love a sequel!

Really good game highly recommended. I would actually give it a 10 because it’s basically hooked me like some of the best games ever have. While not necessarily in the legendary class of games, it’s still going to be very memorable and is giving me that love that I have for the video games when I feel nostalgia. Not very many video game give me nostalgia these days and I get bored quick. Not this game. Very creative environments and puzzles. There is always new variety in the gameplay that it throws at you. Also really love the graphics, the environments, and the spaced based gameplay and exploration. The good and bad is that you basically have to play with someone, so as long as you got someone to play with the game is great and highly recommended. My wife and I both loved it and were hooked start to finish.

This is an extremely solid game. The aesthetic is absolutely perfect. The game length is perfect. My big issues are there just isn’t enough variety and creativity in the moment to moment gameplay. I was never super excited about what I was playing. Another small issue was there would be dialogue happening in Japanese while action was happening in game, so obviously might be missing cool/funny/story content! I would recommend this game though!

The game system is terrible and cannot be played **** split-screen view restricts your field of vision, making it hard to play, and the characters lack appeal.Progression consists entirely of tedious tasks—like repairing the ship or building platforms for the opponent—with absolutely no fun factor.

Beautiful and unique experience. It's like playing an anime! Completed it with my 7-year-old son over four play sessions. The puzzle and level design was excellent, the perfect level of difficulty so it's challenging but enjoyable. Highly recommended and a fantastic game. It's much better than It Takes Two for me which is the closes comparison with respect to game mechanics.

The concept is good but that’s the problem, it almost feels like a fully priced proof of concept rather than a full game. The story moves too quickly to the point of not understanding the flow and puzzles that could have been repeated in different setups just used once and never again. A bit of a wasted potential. It was fun for the 5 hours my friend and I were playing it together though.

Co-op gameplay is great, animation cutscenes not done well and below expectations. story-build is weak. and the story timeline is very shorter than expected.

The game is short but it is much more of a cooperative game than it takes two or split fiction, almost everything you do during the game requires an action from the other player. Controls are a bit janky and unresponsive but nothing that gets in the way of your gameplay. The story is good but could be more developed as some of the non main characters. The relationships don’t really get explained. Some characters you find anlong the way also seem to have some relation to other characters on your home base but none of this gets sorted out. Excellent art style. I love the anime art style although I am not really a big fan of any specific anime series. The piloting and space fighting sequences are good but could see a lot of improvement. Specially in regards to ship motion , it is not possible to move up a down for most of the game. A great first entry for a coop only game series.I would love to see a more fleshed out sequel. Had a lot of fun playing with my daughter This game would also really benefit from having achievements, could extend the playtime a little more since the whole game is so short (finished it under 5h)

Better than the other 2 co-op games that inspired it (it takes 2 and split fiction. A gorgeous bad playable Saturday morning cartoon and a switch 2 exclusive that’s well worth the mantle. The puzzles are tricky but never unfair, Cozy up with your partner and get ready to blast into outer space and most of all…Have an absolute BLAST

Orbitals really surprised me. The ’80s anime art direction is incredible, and the amount of care put into the animations, cutscenes and tiny interactive details gives the whole game so much personality. It genuinely feels like playing through an old anime at times.I also loved how many things you can interact with, often with their own little animations. Discovering the mini-games and messing around with a friend led to a lot of funny moments and made the experience even more **** sound design fits the style perfectly. Some tracks are more atmospheric than memorable, but when the music really hits during a climactic scene, it’s fantastic.More than anything, Orbitals is just incredibly charming. It left me wanting a much bigger adventure in this world. Honestly, I’d love to play a full solo game made with this same style, atmosphere and attention to detail

Fantastic style, great gameplay, nice story and some cool ideas. The only reason to not like it, is when you don't have friends...

a artstyle and soundtrack that truly respects the japanese anime of the 1980s! the gameplay design also has a lot of variety and requires a lot of communication between players which is a binding experience!

As my first switch2 game, it left an awful lot to be desired. game is uninspired. Just a blatant copy cat of the classic It Takes Two but with anime aesthetic. I got bored before the midway point which is a mark of a bland game design. After beating it I felt compelled to vent about it.

First I just want to say orbitals looks gorgeous you can definitely tell the love and passion that the devs put into this game. When I first saw this game at a Nintendo direct last year it became on of my most anticipated game's of this year. However when they announced this game was 2 player co-op only and offered no single player mode all the anticipation turned into disappointment. I just wish that More game developers would realize when it comes to co-op games lot of people prefer to play games solo or just have no one to play with. I'm not saying co-op games shouldn't exist they absolutely should but they should offer a single player mode as well I don't mean for this to come off as entitlement I'm just disappointed.

So far that game is everything and more that I wanted it to be. Let's hope it stays that way, really brilliant and fun game to play with the family. Better than Trine, just as good as It Takes Two so far, but with more fun and enjoyable story.
