The deep create-a-boxer mode is the only aspect of the game that truly excels, but one good feature doesn't even out a sub-standard title. [Fall 2002, p.120]

The game is as good a boxing game as you are going to find, but it’s not great.

Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing has a slew of faults that inevitably bring the title down but that’s not to say that you won’t have a good time in the ring.

Mediocre. [Nov 2002, p.125]

The game is a mess from the opening bell to the K.O. punch. As for differences between the two versions, nothing was touched up for the Xbox version, and both games are virtually identical.

Probably the baddest boxing game on the planet, in a bad way.

Quite possibly one of the most confused games and most definitely one of the worst games to be released so far in 2002.

Although I have no gripe with the stable of boxers included here, I think the game would have been a lot more enjoyable if other equally despised personalities were licensed for the game. Just imagine the possible matches, Tyson versus O.J. Simpson, Hussein versus John Rocker, Bin Laden versus Enron board members. That would be fun no matter how bad the game sucked.
