Hearts Of Iron IV: By Blood Alone is a decent expansion. With new trees for nations that sorely needed them and new features, it brings a healthy amount of content to the game. However, I feel that the new peace conference system is still a little messy. And some focus trees aren't as clear as they should be.

By Blood Alone is - if it works - a real treasure trove for the role-players among the Hearts of Iron fans and promises many joyful hours.

Hearts of Iron 4: By Blood Alone is a solid addition to the game. The new mission trees are the high point of the DLC but whist the small changes which affect all nations are very welcome, its price is a large expense for those who just want to play nations other than those with the new trees, and a couple of the new mechanics need refinement. For HOI fans, there is plenty of content here that will add dozens more hours to your playtime, and for that it gets a thumbs up from me.

Finally fixed Italian tree. Switzerland and Ethiopia content is good too. Alt history paths are good.

Abuse of DLC, incomplete game for a huge amount of DLC for €10 or €20. We can't allow ourselves to be scammed like this.

Paradox was certainly living in a dreamworld thanks to NSB, which was still VERY lacking with the alternate monarchist/republic trees in Russia, now even worse. We thought they got better with time, but even a mod could do better, which I am working on. The "Rome" tree is 4 FOCUSES. Literally the most interesting thing about italy has been shelved for dino grandi and other stupid things. They can't even bugcheck. There is still no Albania focus tree which was also a key in the Balkan domination. Just for a few more bucks. It is clear it will never be getting a focus tree because modders can do it, like we're their slaves. Paradox needs to fix their system. The "Professional Reviewers" giving more than 50 for this are 99% paid.

SummaryBuild a new empire, resist foreign aggression or explore the limits of neutrality in Hearts of Iron IV: By Blood Alone. This new expansion for Paradox Interactive's World War II grand strategy wargame adds new alternate history options and gameplay variety for three nations, as well as other significant changes.
