If you go into Gato Roboto expecting the transportive, sprawling, otherworldly joys of Samus Aran's best, you may be disappointed. But if you want a fierce, high-contrast, bite-sized treat, you're in the right place! [Issue #41 – September 2019, p. 21]

Gata Roboto is not a Metroidvania from another world: it does not really do anything wrong, but it does not really do many new things either. The big star in this game is the cat, that apparently is a very capable and cuddly replacement for Samus.

Gato Roboto has some wonderful aesthetic choices and innovative boss fights, but the awfully short length and generic enemy design hamper an otherwise quirky title.

great game, didn't overstay its welcome and was fun for the short playtime! i liked it a lot and was a good singleplayer break from the multiplayer obsession i had at the time :)

Good little Metroidvania with a maximum of six hours playtime, if you want to complete it 100%. Simple structure, with in total five locations to explore. Movement is smooth and fluid. Kiki can leave the suit every time and there are some sections where you control a submarine and the game plays like a shoot e'm up for a little time. The bosses are challenging and the final boss make you feel fighting Dr. Willy in Megaman. It is all in all a nice little Metroidvania without major weaknesses. So if you like the genre, you should try out Gato Roboto.

Simply wonderful.A metroidvania that does everything well, condensed and with references that any fan of the genre, and especially Metroid will appreciate.

Gato Roboto accomplishes so much with so little. Even those it looks like a game that would be on the Atari 2600 or the big brick Gameboy, every aspect of Kiki’s world glows as bright as one of the best of the Metroidvania genre. Plus, it’s a cat in a mech suit, does a game get any more charming than that?

Let yourself be seduced by its price. It is an excellent game, although a bit short. It fulfills what is expected of a title inspired by Metroid and brings a couple of fresh ideas. Gato Roboto is very light and includes some Super Meat Boy style levels.

Gato Roboto might lean a little too heavily on homage, but never truly in a bad way. It might be more goofy than great and more adorable than original, but the game still delivers a pint-sized prance that comes together nicely even if it’s a little short. This follows through on the premise of Meowtroid extremely well.

Gato Roboto is another little triumph for Devolver Digital and developer doinksoft. A simple and satisfying metroidvania that keeps the best of the genre and execute it in a fun Cat-Robot space fantasy and ditches all the unnecessary backtracking these games sometimes have. What it has in charm it lacks in ambition though, and it can fall a little bit short content-wise.

Gato Roboto offers a synthetic and concentrated experience of a Metroid-like adventure. doinksoft game's ticks every boxes of the genre, delivering a high-speed rhythm all the same, but falling short after three little hours.

While Gato Roboto’s frustrations aren’t indicative of its overall quality, they stick with me because the rest of the experience is so by-the-numbers. It’s cute and generally fine, but in a genre this packed, it takes more to stand out than being functional and offering a few solid chuckles.

Anyone hungering for a short Metroid homage can certainly satiate it here for a few bus rides’ worth of time, but there are numerous games within this genre on the Nintendo eShop, most of which are more absorbing and inspiring than this one.

Short, Sweet, More variety than longer games, good feeling of controls, funny story = Excellent Metroidvania. This deserves at least 1 playthrough.

Gato Roboto is a short but sweet metroidvania. The mechanic of getting out of the mech suit and playing as a defenseless cat at points is cool, but the game is too short to do a lot with it. Only major complaint is that the bosses can be tough, and you have to button mash the dialogue on each retry. Other than that, not bad for a quick fix.

If you're new to metroidvanias such as myself, this game is a delight! Many different mechanics can keep the game sweet. It's short as it seems but the little worlds you see are fun! Palettes are fun just like from another devolver game downwell.

Gato Roboto is a bitesized metroidvania, great for a few hours of gameplay. Its graphical style is charming, quirky, and — especially in terms of the animation — well executed. You'll know as soon as you see a screenshot whether you'll like it or not — go with your instinct. The play is quite linear, although there are lots of diversions to keep you busy. I found the bosses (except for the final two, strangely) by far the hardest part of this game, but I enjoyed the combat and inventive attacks. This is a great game if you like the genre and/or retro-styled gaming, and is well worth the price level.
