A large, beautifully-designed platformer that moves past its 16-bit inspiration in many ways, though the levels feel just a little stretched. Still a huge success. [Issue#40, p.92]
While its occasionally spotty hit detection and overly long stages can sometimes be annoying, they do little to take away from just how much of a joy Freedom Planet 2 is to play. As a die-hard fan of the Sonic series since its inception, playing GalaxyTrail’s latest offering felt like taking a trip back to the early 90s with its pixel-perfect presentation and high-energy 2D gameplay. If you’re a fan of the Sonic The Hedgehog games of old or are simply looking for a great 2D platformer to add to your PS5 library, Freedom Planet 2 demands your attention.
Freedom Planet 2 is the perfect example of more and better: fussy but satisfactory gameplay, audiovisually overwhelming and loaded with tons of content.

THIS. GAME. is so much fun!! No like, seriously, this game has become my favorite 2D platformer ever (and as a Sonic fan, I enjoyed it more than Sonic Mania). The gameplay was very engaging and much more fast paced than the first game, though, I feel like that Milla and Neera also should've had their own campaign instead of having Lilac's exact story except with slighty different dialogues and cutscenes. It's a shame that the only character that has a different story from Lilac's is Carol but oh well. Speaking of gameplay, Lilac, Milla and Carol's gameplay has improved so much from the first game, especially Milla. Her gameplay in the first game was painful from start to finish because of the limited movesets but I'm glad Milla is a much more enjoyable character to play as now, Neera though is my least favorite to play as, not saying her gameplay is bad, I feel like her movesets are way too basic for my liking, I still enjoyed Neera's gameplay but I much rather play as Lilac or Milla instead. The SA 2 inspired story was very welcomed, Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic game ever and Freedom Planet 2's story being inspired by SA 2 made the experience even better, of course, I won't spoil the story, otherwise this review would've been flagged as "contains spoilers". Overall, Freedom Planet 2 is a chaotic fun house from start to finish, though, I recommend checking out the first game to understand the story better

Something doesnt match here, and I don't really understand the positive reviews. The overall cohesion of the universe is not good: it is difficult to see the logic between the different levels, the bestiary is strange and uninspired and the level designed is very far from the classics of Genesis (like the game pretented to be) Gameplay is sometime clunky and the desire to do action phases and “sonicish” phases doesnt work that well That said, OST is fine, charadesign is good and some levels have good ideas in their mechanics

A long-awaited and unquestionable masterpiece that effortlessly surpasses the expectations set by official Sonic games, and more importantly and impressively, the superior standard set by Sonic-inspired games. Easily one of the greatest games of all time.

Freedom Planet 2 takes its inspiration from one of the biggest franchises in the history of video games, but refines mechanics, design and narrative that had already been presented in the previous game. The sequel manages to improve what was great and becomes one of the best exponents of the genre.

Freedom Planet 2 feels like the first game with a bigger budget, expanding on many of the key mechanics it employs from its Sonic roots while crafting a unique identity with its complex levels and refreshingly unique enemy and boss design.

PlayStation Universe
Managing to step out of the shadow of its inspirations, Freedom Planet 2 is a brilliant 2D action-platformer that balances all of its elements in a near-perfect harmony while trying plenty of new things. Painstakingly detailed visuals, an entertaining cast and toe-tapping soundtrack help to set this game out as a game that any platformer enthusiast should seek out, despite some small hiccups.

Screen Rant
Freedom Planet 2 is a sequel to the popular 2014 game, Freedom Planet, and builds on much of the feedback gained through that game. It offers additional game mechanics and difficulty settings, as well as the helpful system of equipping power-ups before entering the speedy atmosphere of timed levels. On the PlayStation 5, Freedom Planet 2 offers 27 trophies for players to get, including a coveted platinum trophy.

Freedom Planet 2 will surely be enjoyed by Sonic fans wanting some more high-speed 2D platforming antics. It even has a soundtrack that can trade blows with the Blue Blur’s finest. It suffers from the same pitfalls as a typical 2D Sonic game, though, such as enemy placement sometimes feeling punishing. And the deviations from the Sonic formula often work against the game rather than for it, with combat in particular being deeper but also scrappier. Still, this is a solid game, and developer GalaxyTrain should be applauded for trying to build on the Sonic formula rather than simply replicate it.
