It improves on a great formula, and the only areas it is lacking in are areas in which no other grand strategy game has ever excelled.

Literally one of the best games I've ever played! I used to enjoy playing games such as Empire total war for its involvement in the Americas as this is a part of the world that interests me most but EU3 completely dwarfs it with its colonisation elements and its great depth in ruling options. I can see how people who aren't used to games like this would pass it off as boring at first because it takes a long time to get familiar with the controls, but if you stick with it you are guaranteed a great game!

This was my first Paradox strategy game and wow, I'm absolutely hooked. I have never had as much fun with a recent strategy game than I am having with this one right now, nearly every aspect of the game-play is perfect and gives a really deep sense of involvement. The number of mods and the ease of ability to mod the game with helpful tutorials on the Paradox forums just further extend how awesome playing EU3 is. The only possible drawback is that I learned the game through Youtube tutorials, the in-game ones are lackluster and actually put me off from playing the game before HTTT.

I have been playing Europa Universalis ever since it was only a board game. Always found it one of the most enjoyable, even if very complex and long, strategy game you can find out there. I think the various development teams have made a great job over the years, from the initial design to the refinement of the latest version. A great game in a great serie for sure.
