Challenging game, but great. Very addicting. Enjoyed building a team, but man can it be frustrating!

Ruin has come to this family....alongside a lot of grinding. I really enjoyed it though, maybe play on the easy mode.

English : It was about time I tried this masterpiece and I was not disappointed. The DA is gorgeous (the visual and the sound design). The story is told with a few things, especially the barks and the amazing narrator's voice. The combat system is interesting. It takes a while to come around it if you're not used to this kind of game but it's worth the effort. It's randomized enough to keep your strategy awake. But the story could have gone a little bit further and sometimes, it's too much grinding especially towards the end (and I played it Radiant, which is the level with less grinding).

One of the most unique and well developed indie rogue-like games. Absolute Cinema; this game delivers the most atmospheric, narrative driven turn based games of our generation.

Tough as nails and uniquely oppressive, though RNG and grind-heavy loops can become exhausting.

Darkest Dungeon is one of those games that hooks you fast and doesn’t let go. It’s brutal, dark, and full of gothic horror vibes, but the real star is its crazy challenging turn-based combat. Managing your crew’s stress and quirks adds a whole new layer of strategy—sometimes the hardest battles aren’t against monsters, but your own team’s fears and **** art style is creepy and amazing, and the soundtrack sets the perfect mood for every grim crawl through the dungeons. It’s punishing, for sure, but that’s part of the fun—when you finally overcome a brutal run, it feels **** you like tough tactical RPGs with a dark twist and don’t mind some serious challenge, Darkest Dungeon is a must-play. Just be ready to lose… a lot. But hey, that’s what makes victory so sweet.

Wanna get this outta the way real quick. The final boss is absolute BS and shouldn't be so difficult. i know the game is perpetually meant ot kick your ass which is fine and its half the fun of the game hands down i enjoy that. But the final act is hands down some darksouls 2 BS with the game basically forcing you to cheese every last mechanic in the game to beat itAside from that it took so long to understand a number of the basic mechanics of the game like leveling up or upgrading armor (i didn't read the tutorial) etc etc but when i put it all together the progression of that and rebuilding the town feels great and rewarding. The different classes are fun to juggle and that constant fear of characters going insane or dying is so rare to find in games but when it hits just right it adds another level on top of what is already a great game i wished i played **** really pushed me to try other games in this vein, like nadir, banners of ruin, slay the spire etc

Darkest Dungeon is a brutal, atmospheric turn-based RPG that tests both strategy and mental endurance. Its stress system adds a unique twist, making every dungeon crawl a battle of attrition. The gothic art style, haunting narration, and punishing difficulty create an intense and rewarding experience. RNG can sometimes feel unfair, but mastering the game’s mechanics is deeply satisfying. A must-play for fans of challenging, tactical RPGs.

Do you hate yourself and your sanity? If yes Darkest Dungeon is the best game for you. This game isnt affraid to make its ****. The story of the game is grim and depressing as if you were reading one of Lovecrafts books. It may seem like a game about misery, but the main theme of the game is hope, the hope you the player give to the entire hamlet.

Remember how you played D&D with your friends, so DD is the same D&D but the gamemaster will hate you if the Moon is not in the third phase of waning :)

Darkest Dungeon is a fun crossbreed between a roguelite and a football manger. Should you heavily invest in one of your heroes and treat all his ailments or just replace him with a new one? Decisions, decisions... The game gets a little repetitive though and a lot of the initial difficulty comes from obscurity. Once you know your way around it is rather easy. The Linux versions sometimes fails to initialize audio after startup. Restarting the game usually helps.

It's just absolute perfection, I haven't played anything like it before or since. The gameplay in combat, the exploration, the progress between runs- it's all fine-tuned and made with great care and balance that make you enjoy the game while being frustrated with it in a good way.

Not many games deserve a 10. But this one is definitely one of them. First of all, it is something fresh within its genre. I love the narrator's voice, I love the timeless visuals and the entire team management system. The game is not for everyone: if you easily get attached to your characters, be prepared to say goodbye. You never know when one mistake will cost them their lives.

A generally good game, but gets repetitive quickly.
If you're not really familiar with strategic games you'll struggle a little for the first hours. The game doesn't really guide you, but there's a glossary with almost every info. Some critical mechanics are hidden like bleeding and blight stacking, without a real explanation. The pacing is really slow: after 12 hrs I managed to beat just 4 bosses. I saw from the journal that many of them are repeated. Apart from that, the characters walk slowly in dungeon corridors and that's annoying after a while. Combat animations could be faster too. The stress mechanic is interesting, it forces you to rotate through your roster, but it feels kinda tedious after a while. I don't see myself going through 60+hrs to beat everything in this game, cause there's simply too much repetitiveness, but the core mechanics are good. I don't particularly love the art style, but it has his own character.
The audio is fine per se, but completely fails to enhance the experience.
In dungeons, there are too much sounds in the background that don't really create any atmosphere. Same goes for music, not really memorable and not much pathos in it. Really a shame for a game that really needs to rely on immersive/meditative setting.

Playing on Steam Deck and this is just awesome experience ! The progress you make in this game is very rewarding and gives a lot of satisfaction. Yeah this is quite difficult game, but when you finally get used to all the mechanics, the game starts being a very interesting journey. You can pick short scenarios, long scenarios, fighting with bosses, depends on how much time you actually have.

This games is like if someone took XCOM: Long War and made it into a JRPG. Unfortunately, like almost all JRPGs, the combat is lacking. Darkest Dungeon is fun for 10 hours or so, but it's far too shallow to hold your attention for the 50+ runs you'll have to play in order to beat the game.

a roguelike that will beat you while your down and spit in your face, but that is its biggest strength, its by far one of the best games out there, lovecraftian horror mixed with a turn based rpg, do play it if you got a chance

This game's combat system is quite unique and much more interesting than most other turn-based combat system. Each class has skills that can only be used from certain positions, some being more flexible than others. As such, right from the get go, choosing your 4 party members and their position is already crucial to your survival. Additionally, new recruits will come with both positive and negative quirks. If you leave them there too long, they will become locked and permanent. So you need to manage your roster as much as possible and try to keep them in the best shape you can.

gets too boring, because of the repetitive gameplay. i stopped playing after 8 hours. dont get me wrong i love difficult games but if the only difficulty of the game you have developed is to pass the same sections with the same logic and strategy over and over again, i aint playing that.

Nearly Seven Years I've been playing Darkest Dungeon for almost seven years and to me it's always been the perfect rogue-like, although I've never had the patience or time to finish it until now. First let me start off by saying that Darkest Dungeon, at least on its default settings, is still an unforgiving game. At the very beginning, as soon as you boot up the game, it tells you that Darkest Dungeon is all about making the best of a bad situation, and I'm sure anyone who's put any amount of time into the game, can confirm that this is definitely the case. Effectively, the game plays as thus; A week passes every mission, there are multiple 'Dungeons' you can go to, each with their own trials and tribulations, enemy types and bosses, you take a party of four that will suit that dungeon and complete the given task. After that task is completed (or failed) party members will level up and you'll earn gold and trinkets, which you use to upgrade your Hamlet (Effectively your base of operations) in order to become stronger to make dungeoning easier and get access to harder quests. There are a multitude of heroes/classes to choose from, each of them bringing their own unique abilities and playstyle to the game. You can also rename all of your heroes to anything you want, making the game ideal for those who want to put their friends in the game (This is what I do for all games that I can, such as XCOM or Phoenix Point or Disgaea) or also ideal for Twitch Streamers as you can make your chat feel more involved by naming them after people in there. The gameplay loop is very satisfying and I don't ever get bored playing this game, although what I will say is, things -will- go wrong. You will lose that max level hero to something out of your control, yes you can debate that the game is mostly RNG, but think of the game more like D&D as opposed to other turn based RPG's, it's the dice that does decide at the end of the day. However you do have a multitude of ways of mitigating damage and making sure you're getting the most out of your heroes, if you plan ahead well, know when to take a loss as well (tactically) you'll be fine. The game is long, there's no doubt about that, you're talking anywhere between 30-50 hours for one proper run at the game, beating the final boss and all. Another great aspect about the game is the Hamlet, randomly you'll get Town Events, these can be positive or negative. Things such as... The Tavern is free for the week, or a free weapon upgrade (This can be particularly helpful in the mid-game when money is an issue.) Or negative ones such as a big bad boss is at your doorstep all of a sudden, with no preparation and you -need- to deal with him. It makes the game feel alive, like not everything is always 100% under your control, and this, for me, is what makes the game so exhilarating. In truth, I don't really have anything bad to say about the game, I guess I've been done over by RNG a few times but upon reflection, I guess I could've prepared better, but sometimes I did just get crit 3 times in a row and had a hero die, but I also don't see how blaming RNG for losing someone is a bad thing, especially when that's the nature of the game; you expect this going into it. But that's the reality of the game, I'd say it's a feature and not a flaw, you can do all the preparation in the world and be set up perfectly, but as the narrator so aptly puts it, as you think you're doing well. "How quickly the tide turns." To me, this is one of the best games ever made, it offers extensive replay-ability and despite its unforgiving nature, it's extremely rewarding, I promise when you pull off something magnificent, or one of your heroes becomes Virtuous, or you beat a boss that was skelping you endlessly, you'll be jumping out of your seat in joy. 10/10.

A game that is full of bad design decisions. A sequel that is missing most of the things that made the first game great. A rogue-lite with mechanics and RNG hell that force you to suffer many hours before you manage to achieve some meaningful progress. And that is the main difference, where the first game makes you struggle this is make you suffer. And it's simple, not fun.

No any other game punished and rewarded me in equal measure as DD has. It's a game that develops in front of your eyes as the more hours you pour into it, and believe me it could be quite a lot of hours.

Very smart game and probably one of the hardest games I have played including games from the souls series. Very rewarding and punishing gameplay loop. You can level up a character for hours and make him seem 'hot **** but then you take him to a risky level near the endgame and there is a good chance he will die and you will have to start that loop over (Would be quicker to level of the character at least). The enemies and the bosses are great in this game and they all feel different. The madness meter is a brilliant yet very annoying part of the game that makes games way harder. It does get a bit repetitive over time but definitely worth a play if you like a challenging game. Also the loot system is very and extensive.
