There's a wonderful depth of tactics in this cyberpunk charmer. [Eurogamer Recommended]

Though it has some flaws, City Wars proves itself to be an impressive and immensely enjoyable roguelike deckbuilder that stands out well from the pack. The interesting track system for card placement creates gameplay mechanics you can’t find in any other card battler while the persistent progression system ensures that you’re always getting something out of every run. Though the low enemy variety and sometimes weak AI can dampen things a bit, and it's not exactly a looker, the depth of the strategic gameplay keeps City Wars feeling fresh and interesting as you go back for yet another run. We’d recommend anyone with an interest or inclination towards card games add this one to their Switch library; there's lots to love about City Wars and it's worth both your time and money.

It decent enough, but not much going on in the gameplay department. It gets repetitive fast. I recommend Roguebook or Steamworld Quest.

Pros: - Gameplay during battles is great. It's a truly unique idea and some interesting mechanics. - Soundrack is amazing Cons: - Load times are too long. They put me off jumping in for a quick battle or two, or starting a new run, like other games in the genre - Crashes. During 3 (failed) runs over about an hour of game time the game has crashed 3 times (requiring a restart) - The font size is too small especially when playing undocked on Switch. Even on TV I'm straining my eyes - some instruction screens are barely readable. - I'd have liked a bit more customisation, so the deck feels like it's really "yours". For example choose some starting cards. I'd love to explore the synergies some more but i don't feel like I have much control over them. Maybe this will become more apparent with further gameplay but the first two issues (load times and crashes) have put me off unfortunately.

Great ccg-roguelike game with really unique mechanics and big potential! 10 headshots from 10!

Summary CITY WARS: TOKYO REIGN takes the customisation and strategy of a traditional CCG and introduces a dynamic battlefield where tactile mechanics and turn-based battling combine. Choose a FACTION, build a COMBAT CASE and take to the streets.
