This more expansive and finely tuned sequel takes all that was great about its predecessor and finesses the formula while losing none of the charm. [Dec 2004, p.108]

The transition between the Gun del Sol and the multiple weapons is decent, implementing a slew of new features necessary to see you through the game unscathed.

Fans of adventure games who don't find block-pushing and switch-flipping tiresome will enjoy a long-lasting challenge, as will fans of the original. Everyone else, however, should approach with caution. [Aug 2005, p.118]

This game is a great sequel, it builds on the characters, Sabata even has a more distinctive sprite! Some of the plot twists were expected, but some weren't and caught me completely unprepared. This game is fantastic! I recommend it heartily!

One of my personal favorite GBA games of all time. Expanding on what the first game did in every feasible way, Boktai 2 is the peak of the series. Boktai 2 is an action adventure game, presented from an overhead isometric view. Within the game you progress through a series of areas each punctuated by a boss. While the formula may seem pretty standard, with the games use of actual real world sunlight, you have a game that is affected by the world you play it in. Playing at sunset? Expect to feel panicked and rushed. Playing on an overcast day? Expect the bosses to be at their strongest, and the possibility of rain in the game. Boktai 2 deserves a place in your gaming library, if only because there's nothing else like it.

May not be as revolutionary as the original, but it's still a solid gaming experience and a good bridge between the gaming world and reality. [Dec 2004, p.132]

Deduct 60 points if you live in an igloo but if not, Boktai 2 is better than the original. [GamesMaster]

You'll often have so many paths before you in a dungeon it can be tough to wrap your brain around how exactly you can move forward, and the individual puzzles can be absolutely brutal.

A clever use of AI makes it possible for you to influence enemies with sight and sound. [Nov 2004, p.131]

While not as groundbreaking as its forerunner, Boktai 2 still innovates enough to warrant your attention. [Holiday 2004, p.140]

There is no "type of gamer" who will enjoy it. You either will or you won't. No matter what I am pretty certain that the sun factor will drive you nuts.

But the control configuration is cumbersome to use. For the most part the graphics are solid, but some of the environment's background elements are shoddy.
