For what it is, AEW: Fight Forever is a simple, fun brawler. If you like simplicity and prefer your wrestling without the bells and whistles, pick this up. What lets it down is the lack of presentation and features. WWE does not own the monopoly on these things, and it’s a shame that after such a long wait, a lot is missing. The dedication to additions is commendable and bodes well for the future. Until then, this reviewer isn’t quite "All Out", but is definitely holding onto the turnbuckle.
Its gameplay it's largely recognizable, we are talking about the studio that created the classic Smackdown vs Raw. It could be some worthy, but it's lack of content makes it difficult to recommend.
AEW Fight Forever tries to return the old game mechanics of more than 20 years ago to consoles that no longer need them. This video game is entertaining. It has enough combat modes to feel part of a night with all AEW's action. However, the reality is that it is a product with a lot to improve, especially if it is going to compete with the WWE 2k games.

One of the best wrestling games ever made! While the customisation and match options are somewhat lacking, it makes up for it with amazing gameplay and an awesome story mode.

Nostalgic wrestlers, and some of the best wrestlers not signed by WWE are not enough to save this game from being an objective failure. Fight Forever's biggest issues are the terrible controls, and while I get it's trying to replicate the old school feel of the Smackdown VS Raw, or pre-SDVR WWE games, it does so with so little polish that those games have. While it does have some good visual presentation, it feels more like a game in Alpha, rather than the full release. And these mini games are so mind numbingly dull. I got this for free, and I can't justify spending a penny on it. Do not play this game whatsoever. The 2K games might get flak for being repetitive, but at least they work.

Feltlike the game was missing a lot. Limited customizations, $DLC for 1 suprestar, short story **** list can go on. I enjoyed the game play butthe replay value quickly died down.

AEW: Fight Forever is the best wrestling game since WWF No Mercy. There’s a visceral nature to every punch and slam which makes every physical match-up an absolute thrill. While the mechanics are deep and allows fans to master techniques, there’s also a pick-up-and-play ethos that is amplified through silly mini-games and over-the-top gimmick matches. The odd hit detection issue, basic creation suite and lack of community uploads are disappointing, however, they don’t take away from what is the greatest wrestling game in the past 20 years.

It’s the best traits from those classic AKI games that remain at the core of AEW Fight Forever, though, along with some clever and sometimes whimsical additions made along the way. (The Mario Party-esque minigames are, hands down, some of the wackiest additions I’ve seen to any sports game.) Though All Elite Wrestling is still a relatively young wrestling company, it can point to Fight Forever as a great first foray into console gaming and one of the best wrestling games in years.

I don't know what people expected from a game that had to be shoehorned onto the Switch as well, no doubt this is why entrances are cut short and the game being rather graphically unimpressive poor little Switch would have exploded. Aside from that there was rather a lot of meddling the developers had to contend with and instead of just being told "Go make a modern version of Smackdown! 2" They had Nintendo nerds sticking their oar in wanting the game to be like whatever that terrible wrestling game was Nintendo had back in the day, No Mercy, was it? All of this should be building a picture as to Why AEW: FF turned out as it did, it's not the devs fault. Despite all the drawbacks with all current content the game is pretty good, worthy of a 7, but given a 10 here to help offset all the nonsensicle 0-3 scores. The game does need to go back to the drawing board a bit though and someone just tell the devs "Make a modern Smackdown! 2".

An encouraging debut for the big new rival to WWE, with loads of welcome throwback nods to No Mercy and Fire Pro, and a career mode you won’t be able to resist playing through multiple times.

Hampered by a limited selection of wrestlers, customisation options and a career mode that falls on the short side, it is another one of those games that could be great if given more time and development.

AEW: Fight Forever’s good ideas can’t save it from a paltry amount of content and somewhat inferior gameplay compared to its competition.

Over time, there’s certainly room to build from this foundation. But with the asking price and the initial lack of substance, it’s hard to see value in AEW’s first game upon release.

This is basically a return to a No Mercy/WrestleMania 2000 style of wrestling game.

Its gameplay is fun but doesn’t have that replay ability despite it being better than WWE’s 2K15, 17 and 18 due to it having a story mode.

It's trying so hard to be a new generation version of No Mercy and almost gets there. Like No Mercy it's not great as a single player experience but it is tremendous fun if you have other people in the room to play with.

The gameplay is great, if a little buggy. But the low score comes from the lack of content in a full price game. If this was half the price, I'd accept it, but at AAA price, this is far too thin on the ground. I'm happy to change this rating if they do a No Man's Sky over the coming months and years, but I don't find that likely.

Graphically lacking, entrances minimalized, no CAWs... from the company that had vreated WWF No Mercy and set the standard for the best wrestling games ever, i expected much much more. Worst part of it all, they had access to THE BEST commentator in all wrestling, and didn't use him for play by play.
