The shady practice of always online and shamlessly reducing rewards in a patch to tempt people to use real money will always get a 0/10 from me. Just downright greed. Polyphony and Sony should be ashamed of themselves.

As a long time PES player I can't help but feel a tad disappointed with this year's update especially after the promising demo. The game feels, at times, a pleasure to play, when a well worked goal is finished off you cant help but smile at how superb it all came together with some delectable animations. However I'm going to concentrate on the many negatives. The players ignoring the ball, letting it go past them while they just stand there oblivious. The passing, shooting, everything seems overly assisted, you pass or shoot at times and it gives a power, and often direction, that you didn't give it, like the A.I overrides you and just does what it wants while you sit there pressing buttons like a monkey wondering what real input you're having. The input lag is unforgivable, it affects everything, from dribbling to getting in a shot, and what's worse is it actually feels like it's a deliberate code rather a game engine issue or any fault with your connection or reactions. The scripted momentum is still there. They have added literally nothing to MyClub apart from a few new sound effects and the way some menus appear. Close control feels worse than PES 2019 despite Iniesta's best efforts. Konami think a "remaster of Master League" is putting in a few manager cut scenes that after five minutes you want to skip. Remaster it is not, in fact it's a downright lie. A lot of crap from earlier games still being here, the lone players in co-op, the nonsense "We Believe etc." banners adorning every stadium, having the same button control skip and pause, the replays every time the ball goes out of play, the poor audio etc. etc. etc. Knowing Konami and knowing they probably wont patch any of these issues. Overall when I'm playing this game I'm often thinking three things "PES 2019 did it better", "So scripted", and "This isn't worth £40".

The great gameplay is in there somewhere, you can sense and feel it, and very occasionally it feels spot on, a great representation of football, exactly what we **** unfortunately it's ruined by the obvious scripting, momentum and god awful netcode. It's a shame Konami chose to go the EA way rather than produce the opposite. All about MyClub now, which is so boring and limited it makes Ultimate Team look amazing but every other mode, just like FIFA, is ignored. They've killed Master League to get you to pay for coins for MyClub and I fear PES2020 will be exactly the same. More interested in Ronaldinho animations and scripting games to get you to buy coins than overall gameplay, content and improving their severs. They just don't get it anymore, greed has overruled.

Well done Activision, after two years of successfully avoiding your yearly copy and paste but somehow simultaneously getting worse and worse I relented and bought this - mainly due to my affection of World at War. Well, it turns out that eight-year-old game is better in every single way. Congrats on the hype train, I bought a ticket - and now, after one day, I'm getting off. Abysmal.

Aside the nice visuals, array of modes and licenses lies a gameplay that's so overly assisted it barely feels like you or your opponent are having any real significant input at all. Ping pong passing, pace abuse, a bizarre combination of manual defending but assisted attacking and the familiar scripting all makes for matches that are identical and ultimately joyless - mainly because you don't actually feel like you have won or lost but more that the A.I interference has won and lost and you merely just sat there watching it.
