Berserk and the Band of the Hawk6
Apr 7, 2024
Band of the Hawk exists in a weird purgatory: not a great way to experience Miura's opus, not a great way to experience Dynasty Warriors combat. With middling gameplay that struggles to replicate the heights other licensed entries in the Warriors franchise have, the low-budget retelling of the story proves this series is simply destined for weak, underwhelming adaptations not worth picking up over the manga.

Resident Evil 210

Arguably the real start to the series modern renaissance, breathtaking graphics, stellar voice acting, grotesque enemy design and an enthralling environment prove once again why Resident Evil reached such heights in it's prime, and why it can do so again.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard10
Apr 5, 2024
Biohazard manages to keep all the best aspects of classic Resident Evil while modernizing it for today's survival-horror audience and proving the series can, in fact, evolve and mature in it's own lane, instead of trying to capitalize on modern action shooter trends. A claustrophobic, unsettling environment populated by utterly unforgiving enemies and clever puzzles make the game one of the best examples of what RE could- and should - be.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth9

I hesitate to call a game 'perfect', but Rebirth is ridiculously close. Small changes to the already amazing combat turn it into a sublime affair, with stellar graphics and an absurdly great cast rounding out the experience. While the game feels overstuffed at times, and the level design still retains some of the sloggy feeling of Remake, It manages to improve on the first entry in almost every meaningful way, except in fields like the soundtrack, which was already a 10/10 aspect. The story is largely faithful to the original, but manages to subvert expectations in a way that keeps it fresh and exciting, and brings a new level of surprise to one of the most-spoiled events in any video game to date.

A worthy follow-up to Breath of the Wild, TotK manages to improve upon the strengthens of it's predecessor while also highlighting some it's biggest flaws. A barebones story with nothing interesting to say for a series almost in it's forties, inconsistent and contradictory lore and a poorly and unevenly executed time skip take some points off, but overall TotK is probably one of the best experiences you can have on the switch with sublime gameplay and an incredible iteration on the game map.

Final Fantasy XVI8

This game is a mixed bag. The story is excellent, combat is fun, and the voice acting is stellar. Where it falls flat is the dull, corridor design philosophy and length. The combat is fun, but after 60-80 hours it has long overstayed it's welcome, and with nothing other than combat to do, it will feel like a total slog by the end.
