I used to love most Pixar movies but this one is just weird. Not only do I not feel it's appropriate for kids I don't even feel it's appropriate for adults. It seems like it's trying to teach a lesson but the only less I got was that you need to kill people when your dad tells you to or you're a wimp that is basically responsible if your family dies. It made even less sense than that when I was in the theatre. It's like the movie makers were on weird drugs and had only read about the real world in comic books. The animation was really impressive but the story was truly twisted and nonsensical with on random disconnected scene after another ending with the longest goodbye scene yet put on film. No more 'kids' films for me! Wow.

After we saw this on TV my husband asked me, "Did people actually go to the theatre to see that?" I told him they did but hardly believed it myself as I was saying it. It's so bad that it's hard to believe that even brain dead religious wackos would think that it was worthwhile. Two hours of God trying to get a weaselly politician to build an ark by having animals chase him around. So pathetic. Such a contrast to Bruce Almighty which was actually pretty funny and clever.

Still my favourite movie after all these years and many viewings. You see something new each time. The story and performances are so complex you really can't tell where people are actually coming from. I've way too dramatic and scary to be a comedy, way too funny to be a horror drama, it's not wonder a lot of people can't wrap their minds around this movie. Yes you don't ever 'identify' with Cage's character but you do identify with all his victims, something that is pretty rare. Physically he doesn't change thoughout the movie but by the end you can't even believe Lowe is being played by the same actor he has been so transformed by his disease or madness or whatever it is. And it's shot just beautifully. Highly recommended if you want to see something completely different for a change.
