Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate8
Jan 26, 2023
I played MH3U for the first time in 2022 and I was surprised to find people online that were willing to help me out! Sometimes a whole part of 4 hunters. That was an unexpected treat. There are some aspects that haven't aged the best, but overall the atmosphere of this game is really cozy when it isn't trying to body you.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin8
Jan 26, 2023
Its an improvement from the first Stories game! My biggest critique is its pacing. Sometimes you're doing busy work that doesn't feel like it progresses the plot. But the combat system is a refreshing take on turn-based combat thats more about predicting patterns than finding an elemental weakness. Would recommend to monster hunter fans and people looking for a game with a lot of party customization.

Dark Souls Remastered9

It's hyped for good reason! I played it for the first time in 2022 and it holds up really well. Hot take, but Ornstein and Smough aren't as tough as everyone says.

The Banner Saga 310
Jan 26, 2023
I played the whole trilogy back to back, so this is a review of all the games. There are some nitpicks I have such as the "maim strategy" limiting gameplay variety... but thats about it. Everything else I loved! I found that as the trilogy progressed, there were enough new challenges and moveset updates that it keeps you on your toes. The art style and soundtrack are unique and always a treat to experience.

It's gets kinda "anime cringe" at times, but it's fun if you like action-rpg's. I found the QTE's overbearing at times, and most of the side characters to be lackluster. But the world itself is well realized and the combat is fun, though it does outstay its welcome.

This game was difficult for me to play due to my inexperience with non-linear game design. But once I got over the curve, I got to see some of the most innovative and genius gameplay I've experienced.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak10
Aug 15, 2022
My only critique is the pacing. I wish the new content was spread out more, but that's a nitpick really. Great stuff besides that. I've heard some people have save file bugs on PC buy I never got that and it runs great on my end (1440p 90fps). Rise was my least favorite Monster Hunter and Sunbreak addressed a lot of the issues I had with it. Rampages are gone now. There's a good endgame loop (if you like RNG, which I do). The story is better! The combat provides more of a challenge. You are able to experiment with more of your moveset due to switch skill swapping. The movesets got more varied with various new moves, which also buffed and debuffed weapons that needed it.

Monster Hunter Rise9
Aug 15, 2022
Rise takes the best aspects of its predecessors builds upon them in the best way possible. The fluidity of the wirebugs adds mobility while the same heft is still felt behind each weapon. Not to mention there are new "switch skills" that add more variety to each of the already extremely varied (and all viable) 14 weapon types. This is the first MH game I've played where I can't decide which weapon to main as they're all great! The rampage mode is a nice change of pace and the wyvern riding is a significant upgrade from the previous mounting feature. Also the dango cutscenes are cute as heck. *2022 update: rampage get boring after a while, knocking off a point

The Last of Us Part II9
Jan 4, 2021
This game is a 2 steps back one step forward scenario. Everything in regards to gameplay, sound design, performance is an improvement. The storytelling meanwhile is controversial.... I enjoyed the story that was told, but many do not. IMO it is not as well executed as TLOU1, but its still a solid story about hatred and what people do because of it, and what it does to people. If you want something lighthearted, do not play this. But if you are in the mood for depression incarnate and want to see why people are pooping on this game... do pick this up. It didn't live up to the hype for me personally, but its still a good game.
