Obi-Wan Kenobi

Judging by the two episodes screened at Star Wars Celebration, Deborah Chow and the cast and crew have not only risen to the occasion, but they’ve exceeded all hopes. ... Kenobi feels like a true auteur vision. Chow’s stamp is all over this series, making it feel like a unique entry in the Star Wars saga. ... Kenobi feels high stakes, emotionally deep, and like the first Star Wars series to Matter, capital M. It’s a feat.

So far, though, Obi-Wan feels respective of both its canonical past and the future that lays ahead, and while it’s the exact opposite of new ground, this does feel like a chapter of the Star Wars saga that makes sense to explore...a show we’re hyped to see through to the end.

In telling the stories of the galaxy’s most famous stars, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” just has to put one foot in front of the other, sow seeds of what’s to come, and have enough self-awareness to know both its limits and what the audience wants from these characters. On those fronts, at least, the show seems right on track.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, released on Disney Plus on Friday, offers a slight change of tack: a self-contained story, centring on one of the saga’s most familiar characters. Judging by the first two episodes, it feels like it’s pulled it off.

Fascinating, occasionally thrilling, and yet sometimes deeply frustrating series.

Obi-Wan Kenobi feels less like a major disturbance in the force than just more Disney+ content churned out to keep subscriber numbers up. McGregor brings tremendous depth and empathy as Kenobi and the show is worth staying with for him alone. ... For now, Obi-Wan is watchable but nothing more.

Obi-Wan had a larger problem: It was dumb as a rock. Simple rules of spatial logic went out the window. Main characters kept almost killing each other, and then walking away long enough for their wounded opponent could recover.

When it was announced that an Obi Wan Kenobi tv show was being made I absolutely lost my mind. When it was announced that Hayden C was also returning as Vader I lost it all over again. Imagine my bitter disappointment then, when the series was finally released and instead of an in-depth story on Obi Wan Kenobi post Order 66, we get drips of it here and there as the main story evolves around a youngling who survived Order 66 (shockingly being stabbed in the stomach by Vader yet lived!) and her plan to take her revenge on Darth Vader. She hopes to do this by joining his ranks of Inquisitors, Vaders Jedi hunting pack, in order to gain his trust. Her acting is god awful even for Star Wars. Most of her dialogue includes whispering and then screaming at the top of her lungs while maintaining a stupid wide eyed stare on her face. There are some good bits, Vader ripping through a village, Vader vs Obi Wan 2 & 3, Vader stopping a space ship from taking off with the force. It's almost as if they have this really legendary character just sitting there being under utilised why they let some Mary Sue nobody take centre stage. She also gets stabbed in the stomach by Vader again ... AND SURVIVES AGAIN. Nobody dies in Star Wars from lightsaber wounds anymore. Ewan is great as Obi Wan and there are a couple of fantastic cameos. But it could have been so much more.

I don't know where the casting director found Moses Ingram but her acting was so bad. It ruined one of the most pivotal parts of the series like where Obi-Wan learns Anakin is alive. Her bad acting put a slug right through the heart of this series. It should have been a movie and more developed. This WAS movie grade material but it just left out a lot of the magic that a full production would have added. **** lack of really epic star wars music killed the vibe.

After watchin Andor i had a glimmer of hope, that maybe Kenobi would be good as well. What makes Andor so great, is that the threat of the empire is so believable. In this show all the enemies (including vader) are just stupid. And we are back at the Disney low level of writing. As a huge Fan of the old days i enjoyed at least some scenes - especially the flashbacks to the prequels
