The book is the star here, a surprising hit that somehow resonate with readers. What you have here is a serviceable adaptation of the book, brought some by pretty good casts. Some weird choices for its soundtrack and 'changes' from the book made it more mainstream, but other than that not a bad little thriller.
Entertaining and somehow poignant, sci fi action is meant to be a 'dumb' melding between Predator and 'Metal Gear', yet Ricthson brough a soulful performance into what could have been a 'one note character'. The direction is no slouch either as the flick caught on why Predator or Terminator became such classics: how the $%# can you kill this machine? Netflix in 2026 is essentially killing it, and this is another hit on their ever improving movie library.
Both charismatistic leads can't save this so so action buddy comedy. Interesting locale though which gave it a bit of a plus. Mundane action set pieces though really sink this flick.
Average 'MGM Prime Video' action flick is a star vehicle for Chopra, but this Die Hard meets Pirates felt forced and predictable despite the efforts of its casts. It seems that people should stop giving the Russo brothers these so so projects and let them stick to the MCU.
Predictable buddy action comedy has great chemistry between the 2 charismatic leads and nothing else. There are some surprisingly heart felt moments but the action sequences are unmemoreable. A good stream but nothing else.
Jessie Buckely will win the best actress Oscar. This film is a tour de force of her performance and it's a heartfelt rendition of loss that is better than it ought to be.
Oscar bait for sure, this drama shows Skarsgard acting in his native language. Great performances from the rest of the cast (hence, the plethora of Oscars it received). Worth a watch but it's obvously a filler 'nominee'.
Damon and Affleck's little Netflix thriller is better than it ought to be. It's a simple cops and robbers flick, supported by a trully stellar cast that elevates the film way above its material. A great watch.
Amusing little film from Fuller is a change of pace for him, but still entertaining and well produced. Think of it as the Professional meets 'Alice in Wonderland' and you'll get what he is aiming at.
A romcom lvies and dies by its leads and folks, give a rousing welcome to Emily Bader, the successor to such rom com queens such as Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts. She buoyed the picture and has a great chemistry with her co star Blyth. More and more so, Netflix is cementing itself as the best studio out there. The fact that this and premiere series 'His&Hers' was released almost week to week shows the dominance of this streaming behemoth.
More of the same from the Knives Out series still offer a pretty good whodunnit with a stupendous cast, but let me tell you, I found that Craig's Benoit Blanc character is running it's course. And of course, the movie has an astronomic price tag that is not shown on screen.
More of the same from the Avatar series. However, the plot is starting to wear thin and the 'wow' moments are too far and between to sustain the whole movie. Is it time for Cameron to move on? I think so after this installment. Big positive note though: great performances from the ladies: Zeldana may be the best 'mo-cap' actor beside Andy Serkis, while Chaplin does wonder as the villain.
Dissapointing 'sequel' to the hit classic suffers because of the source material itself: it's just not enough material to cover 2 whole movies, with Act 1 of the play infinitelly better than Act 2. As it is, the 1st hour of the movie is a true slog, with materials added to pad its 2 hr running time. The 2nd half is better but it ends somewhat abruptly, with the film assuming that you have seen the original Wizard of Oz a 'million times' before. As it is, still one of the finest musical movie in recent years. Maybe they will release a cut of containing both movies in the future to address this installments weaknesesses.
Highly entertaining entry shows you that Tratchenberg really knows how this franchise should be headed. Great characters, superb set pieces. Surprisingly humorous as well. One of the year's best surprise.
Long awaited sequel to the Disney classic may not be as good as the original, but its a welcome relief for Disney after a string of low performers this year. Worth a watch.
Obvious Oscar bait by everybody involved. It is not as good as it thought it is. It is 'very topical' , that is now obsolete to engage academy voters. But the main problem are having leads, such as Roberts and Edibri who are known (and very good at) for their lighter hearted fares. Not a bad movie but who want to watch this in the cinemas?
Over rated, but still well made movie by the legendary director is filled with great performances adn beautiful craftmanship. Yet it always feel that Anderson is making a '2nd rate' Coen brothers movie more than anything else.
Well made and acted thriller has one big flaw: no clear resolution. Meant to be a statement of some sort but ends up deflating the whole film. Still, worth a watch.
The Elixir is an incredibly well made Indonesian Horror movie, tailored to the international market, with its own version of a Zombie Apocalypse that is interesting to watch. Many viewers criticizes it for its characters 'lapses of logic':haven't they seen a zombie movie before? But hey, this is set in the Indonesian rural area after all. Anyway worth a watch albeit gets repetitive neaar the end.
Materialists is an interesting and well written movie. If you expect a typical 'Rom-Com' from Celine Song, then you will be dissappointed. This is more of a romantic drama more than anything else.
Incredible, love letter by Del toro to the modern classic. Clearly a passion project for the prolific director, the fact that a 'streamer' was the one that gave him the freedom. budget and resources to realise his vision is the biggest irony of all. One of the best movie of 2025.
Ho hum thriller is buoyed by Knightley's performance. While things pick up a bit halfway, it ends up predictably like any Hollywood thrillers of yesteryear.
Better than it ought to be, Tron Ares is a pretty good installment of this franchise. Predicatable plot aside, it's well made, has a killer soundtrack and some very good set pieces.
Entertaining Live Action version of the Dsney classic is actually competently made and has a stronger 'heft' in handling some of its more 'heartfelt' topics. It's still a 'very small movie' but its popular with the Disney crowd.
Unfunny sequel to the classic series is not from a lack of trying from its casts. It's just all the best jokes have been shown in the trailers. Too bad as I was expecting this to be a laugh riot.
Absolutelly great casts and interesting premise can't hide the fact that the flick has a somewhat slower pace for a who dunnit. A great watch on Netflix but I expected so much more.
Ever since his work in Barbarians, I always feel that Cregger's work has always been over praised. Same here with Weapons, which promises a lot but delivers what I refer to a 'so so' denounment. This and Barbarians felt like M Night Shyamalan's works on the later parts of his career. One thing for sure though, he is a pretty good director and that's one of the thing that always elevate his works.
F1 is meant to be formulaic, but the true star is the incredible race sequences and cinemathography, and obviously. it's banging soundtrack. This also cements Kosinski as a true action auteur that delivers what he has done before, an old fashioned star vehicle for his leading man. It will rack in a lot of technical awards in this year's Oscars.
Entertaining reboot is meant to be the start of the DCU. It's partially successful. It's strange that Hollywood always over-corrects when they feel that someting is not working and somehow, I liked Man of Steel much more than this version. There is a sense of awe that is missing on this one, which you can say is on purpose. Not bad, but I expected this to be so much better.
Entertaining live action remake of the animated feature is well made and produced. While it is a scene by scene remake, it is years since I saw the original, so there is nothing sense of deja vu while watching it.
Entertaining but predictable sequel, it's a great entry for Sonic fans. Feels a bit stale though in its third entry, and for sure, I am not the target market for this flick.
I wanted to like this installment, and it got a lot going for it. A great casts with Gareth Edwards on the helm. Supposedly it has Koepp, the original writer of the 1st Jurassic on board. However, once it was released, cracks began to appear. Reviews have been bad, so I skipped it and watched it on VOD. Boy, even now I can see what's wrong with the film. Biggest problem? The plot is atrocious to say the least. It's clear that the project was rushed into production (it was) and you have characters doing absoluttelly stupid and non sensical things. Even the main 'conceit' of the plot was so contrived that you're wondering why the characters needed to be there in the first place. Alas, it's still a big hit. I wish that Universal tries a bit harder next time.
Fantastic Four has a lot riding with it, and thankfully, it delivers to some extent. The production values, spot on casting and some pretty great set pieces made this the best version of the quartet yet. The great thing about it is that it sets a different tone for the MCU. Whereas cosmic set installments were once set in a more comedic tone, thanks to the Guardian of the Galaxy, to the detriments to some story, F4 sets a more awe inspiring tone that at the very least give this flick a sense of wonder that was missing since Endgame. One negative point is that the plot plays everything a bit too safe for my liking.Nevertheless, a return to the MCU's usual quality after some dismal installments as of late.
Boring spy thriller is a star vehicle for the excellent Malek, but offers nothing new to the spy genre. There are better movies out there in comparison.
Well made and produced, this side story to the John Wick franchise is a feast for fans of the series. For others like me? I have mentioned that the biggest weakness of this franchise is the fact that you feel like you are seeing another person playing a video game, and it is more prevalent in this installment. All other things are secondary to the stunts and as great as they are, they are not enough to sustain a flick.
Entertaining live action remake of the aninated feature is well made and produced. While it is a scene by scene remake, it is years since I saw the original, so there is nothing sense of deja vu while watching it.
The first M3gan was a surprise hit that this sequel was quickly greenlighted. The big problem? The film makers decided to switch genre and while what we have was quite good, the audiences did not want a sci fi action flick. It was not a dissappointment for me, but it is clearly not as good as the original.
Funny fluff cemented Prime Video as the Go To streaming service for Mid Budget movies. It has pretty good action scenes, and the leads have great chemistry, clearly meant as a launch pad for another action franchise. A pretty good watch
Average Die Hard clone directed by the usually dependable Campbell is a forgettable flick. It's boring until probably the last 15 minutes, yet it's too little too late. If you want to see somwthing of this ilk, watch G20 instead which was released quite close to this flick.
Competent sequel to the Netflix hit is enjoyable. It is a streaming action movie, so don't get your hopes up. But it is still a great way to spend your afternoon.
KPop Demon Hunters's biggest flaw is its ridiculous name, but other than that, this is a movie that is more innovative and enjoyable than anything Disney has produced in years. And the biggest blow? It's on Netflix, a 'studio'that many years ago lost access to Disney IP's and ended up making more innovative shows and movies than the Mouse house in years. This is surprisingly the best movie of 2025 so far.
Snow White is not necessarily a bad movie. It is actually quite well made, with great production values. The big problem is probably Disney itself. People are tired of their constant remakes and it's pretty obvious that their streaming startegy backfired spectacularly. It saturated their IP's exposure. Every content that they have, like this movie, is just...mediocre. And you do not want to spend $200 million dollars and above on mediocre materials.
I can never imagine that Dan Trachenberg just become the 'Kevin Feige' of the Predator universe. From a series of 'slightly good', but scattershot franchise, into an expansive universe is literally mind boggling. If you are a Predator fan, this is a must see.
Entertaining, but somewhat flawed sequel to the 'cult hit' is at its best when it's focusing on both Affleck and Bernthal, who clearly has a great chemistry between them. There is a change of action sub genre though, to a 'buddy comedy' style and it should have adjusted its tone and structure to accomodate that. Other than that, still a pretty good watch.
Trounced by critics, this is essentially an Indiana Jones rip off, tailored for its two leads. What if the Jones' are 'actual nerds' instead of this 'cool, swashbuckling' heroes? That's essentially the premise of this flick. Entertaining and a good watch for a lazy afternoon.
Entertaining but overlong, this so called final mission deliver on it's spectacles but is burdened by the ho hum reception of Dead Reckoning. The 1st hour was essentially spend recapping that installment and by the time the action gets into high gear, the audience is almost driven to boredom. However, the final half delivered some of the series best set pieces. Not the best of the series but far from the worst.
Over rated but well made flick is a strange combination of period film, musical and horror is entertaining in spots but it's tonal shift felt jarring. It's basically From Dusk till Dawn with some social and political commentary thrown in. Worth a look, but it's not the masterpiece that many critics have mentioned it to be.
Thunderbolts* is for sure is better than Brave New World, but it shows that the Marvel brand has lost a lot of its lustre in recent years. At the very least though, the casts put their A game on this effort, and its focus on the internal conflicts of each of these characters are comendable. Yet, you can see that this is done as many of its action sequences and 'the typical MCU spectacles' are done to a bare minimum to conserve its budget. If you are not a die hard MCU fans, just wait for it to stream on Disney+.
The Raid series shows how making a movie is a true collaborative effort. Evans' direction and his dynamic, Indonesian crew has resulted in some of the best and influential action series in the last decade or so. However, when one ingredient is missing, the result feels under par at best. Sure Evans got the budget, and some heavy duty actors to deliver his opus, but the magic that he made with Uwais and the Indonesian stunt crew is sorely missed here. Still a decent watch, but don't expect too much out of it.
