Lilo & Stitch

In the end, Lilo & Stitch isn’t a perfect adaptation, but it’s a heartfelt and faithful one that captures the spirit of the original

Lively, fast-paced and ever so familiar, the picture is a happy addition to the holiday. It’s worth leaving the house to see.

All in all, though, this is a more than respectable remake of Lilo & Stitch.

Fleischer Camp brings a light touch and a good human cast to this reverently faithful effort, but it’s never as clear and bright as its source material.

Less vibrant and proficiently pleasant, the new “Lilo & Stitch” only serves as a reminder to revisit the superior hand-drawn version.

Disney should have left the original alone.

The two human leads, Nani and Lilo, don’t have nearly enough charm to make up for the deficiencies around them, which leaves the entire movie essentially in Stitch’s claws. Yet even his demented-toddler-on-three-espressos energy isn’t funny, perhaps because the digital animation is so dismal.

Semplicemente meraviglioso!

Part of me loved seeing much of the original films material translated into a live action feature. The other part of me was noticing the compromises made in the process of translating the more dramatic family scenes. We get a more serious tone here including additional details in the complexity of their case with an additional social worker played by tia carere. I know this was in the original but it hits differently in a live action flick imo. Galafinakis gives a decent go at the villain here but I do miss the originals "eastern European" accent from the animated original. Overall the original still stands up well in 2025 where this remake feels outdated even when its fresh out of the oven. Entertaining but flawed.

Live action remake of a perfect movie, AND ruined the message. Visually disappointing, morally questionable.
