Key Largo6
Apr 18, 2025
Nailed ambient and mood, but nothing really happens and the plot overall isn't relevant today.
Apr 18, 2025
The Maltese Falcon6
Apr 18, 2025
Iconic and influential film noir. All the aspects of the genre are present.
Apr 18, 2025
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre6
Apr 18, 2025
One of better old movies. Compact and good all around. What I resent in old movies is the strict form. Very few are constructing shots out of the box.
Apr 18, 2025
Double Indemnity6
Apr 18, 2025
I ended up loving noir more as a genre than finding satisfaction in its paricular movies. Ambient and mood are always there, but narratively, noir movies are often shallow and way too obvious. Double Indemnity is one of rare exceptions. It keeps suspense all the time and doesn't feel dated.

A Fistful of Dollars7
Apr 18, 2025
Leone's Yojimbo. His first step. Beautiful, but still too simple. The form is already there; just needs a real, own content.
Apr 18, 2025
For a Few Dollars More8
Apr 18, 2025
The plot is still whatever, but the presentation is, o'boy, incredible. Plenty of memorable scenes are only surpassed by Morricone's exceptional score, maybe the best in the trilogy.

Tombstone7
Apr 18, 2025
The main selling point is a great cast and cinematogrphy. Narrative is, however, lacking depth and believebility.
Apr 18, 2025
The Bourne Identity7
Apr 18, 2025
Quite a solid thriller. The underlaying theme explored here is moving away from external influence and regaining control over yourself.
Apr 18, 2025
The Prestige10
Apr 18, 2025
One of the most underrated movies ever! It's pure magic, litteraly. It explores numerous themes like competition, dedication, influence and much, much more. Non-linear narrative is a real work of art here.

Heat8
Apr 17, 2025
Stylish melancholic neo-noir with excellent pace. 90's vibes. Al Pacino's acting is all over the place, though.
Apr 17, 2025
High Noon9
Apr 17, 2025
One of the top of the genre. Tight meaningful story (almost in real time), drama, suspense and incredible Gary Cooper.
Apr 17, 2025
Death Rides a Horse5
Apr 17, 2025
This is rather unconvincing spaghetti western (although a solid one in that genre, but never Leone's league). Still, some silent scenes, especially the beginning when Lee van Cleef gets out of prison, accompanied with a great soundtrack, are somehow engraved in my memory.

Shane9
Apr 17, 2025
Absolutely incredible classic. Story can feel cliche, but George Steven's cinematic direction and slower pace marks a clear departure from the 40's. I will say "Shane" is ahead even of 50's. There's no much babbling like in previous decade and Alan Ladd performance is excellent, very modern.

3:10 to Yuma7
Apr 17, 2025
Adds some good and some less good things in comparison to the original. The ending is better, in my opinion.

3:10 to Yuma7
Apr 17, 2025
Great cinematography and ambient Unfortunately, lukewarm finish keeps this melancholic and poetic western from being part of the top league.
Apr 17, 2025
King Arthur5
Apr 17, 2025
Very weird mixture of mythical and historical presentation of King Arthur's story. Entertaining for one watch.
Apr 17, 2025
Conan the Barbarian9
Apr 17, 2025
Very, very underrated. It may look shallow on the surface, but there's a lot of good Nietzschean philosophy here. I see it as a mythic movie. A cult.
Apr 17, 2025
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly10
Apr 17, 2025
Maybe the best movie of all time (even if it has some B-movies traits)! It's about the moral conditions of the modern times men. Plus, Sergio Leone realized that "Western" genre is - melody.
Apr 17, 2025
Brotherhood of the Wolf7
Apr 17, 2025
It develops well than ends kinda lukewarm. High production value, french cinematic forms and great atmosphere makes this an interesting piece and an entertaining watch.
Apr 17, 2025
The Matrix6
Apr 17, 2025
Overrated. Convoluted and confusing. This usually attracts pliable viewers. Maybe it leads somewhere... maybe it's just a pipe dream.
Apr 17, 2025
Joker5
Apr 17, 2025
Overrated. It's like teaching Freud to kids while presenting it as something novel.
Apr 17, 2025
Wind River3
Apr 17, 2025
Another forgettable Sheridan's movie. Another one I don't care about any of the themes.
Apr 17, 2025
Braveheart8
Apr 17, 2025
Historically inaccurate and quite violent, but for that iconic speach (a timeless dilemma) alone, deserves some good grades.
Apr 17, 2025
Speed8
Apr 17, 2025
I watched it a long time ago, but remember it as one of better action movies.
Apr 17, 2025
Seven7
Apr 17, 2025
I get it, but it's convoluted enough that one forgets the plot in a couple of days. Seven for Seven.
Apr 17, 2025
Apocalypto9
Apr 17, 2025
This is the best Gibson's movie. He usually goes over the top, but here he nailed it. Insanity and degeneration all starts at overpopulated urban centers and then spreads to grab (sacrifice) everything else.
Apr 17, 2025
Gladiator8
Apr 17, 2025
It was much better when I was kid. Still quite good and memorable. Gladiator is an imitation of an older movie - The Fall of the Roman Empire.
Apr 17, 2025
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King10
Apr 17, 2025
Masterful conclusion of the epic saga! The only negative is the army of the dead functioning as unnecessary deus-ex-machina.
Apr 17, 2025
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers10
Apr 17, 2025
As a middle chapter, maybe not as impactful, but evetything is just well made. The most memorable is desperation and heroism shawn at the siege of Helm's Deep.
Apr 17, 2025
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring10
Apr 17, 2025
All three movies are masterpieces; this one is just best of the best. Lower scope fantasy here is like playing an RPG game.
Apr 17, 2025
Hell or High Water4
Apr 17, 2025
Not much more than cliches. Bridges is awful. Pine is good, though. Predictable and forgettable.
