Awful voice acting, slow and boring gameplay, I am not sure there is much to like.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide5

I really loved Vermintide but this game doesn't seem to learn any lessons from it. For a start it is not well optimized at all and clearly needs plenty of work. Some systems haven't been implemented yet and that is disappointing. It would have been nice to see some more variation in level design as well. As a whole playing this after Vermintide 2, it is a bit lifeless and disappointing. Hopefully, the developer continues to support it as they did with Vermintide and they get it right in the end.

It's a really nice-looking game but it ended up being a disappointment. The combat isn't fun, the voice acting is just about passable and the story is forgettable.

I really liked it in the end but I wish it was a little shorter and had a bit more variety.

Very pretty game but the mechanics and gameplay get a bit dull after several hours. It could do with being a lot shorter.

I enjoyed it for the most part but there are several things that let it down. 1. The framerate is not good on PS5 and it gets worse in certain areas. 2. A lot of copy and paste dungeons similar to Dragon Age 2. 3. The game runs out of steam after 70 or so hours and just throws empty areas and annoying enemies at you. In Conclusion, this is the Dragon Age 2 of 'Souls' games. It's fun at times and is not a bad game but it maybe needed a bit more refinement.

It's an ok FIFA game. Everything is the same as usual, same gameplay, same weird player ratings, and essentially the same graphics. Just play last years, or the year before, or the year before that....

Excellent game. Fun gameplay, excellent characters, but does get a little repetitive near the end. Finished in 12 hrs, with no regrets.

The story isn't great, the graphics are alright, I had a couple of performance issues (PS5) but overall I enjoyed it a lot. At its best it is tense and over the top, at its worst, it is cumbersome and schlocky.

A really fun and exciting shooter with some of the best gunplay around. I would say, however, the lack of a save option makes it a difficult recommend to anyone who doesn't have hours of gaming time to dedicate to a successful run.

Like many people I didn't think The Last of Us needed a sequel. I am pleased to say however that The Last of Us 2 is a really special and unrivalled experience.

The gameplay is fine but there doesn't seem to be any incentive to buy the game anymore. Ultimate Team seems too exploitive and the manager mode is the same every year. I'm sure some people (younger players maybe?) can enjoy 'The Journey' but for me, it is pretty much the movie Goal made into a video game story. Not great acting, awkward cameos and the story is not very realistic or captivating.

I am a big fan of this kind of RPG but I have never been a massive fan of the Pillars world. There have been better crpgs but this is still a very worthy and enjoyable title.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey9
Nov 21, 2018
This is probably my favourite game of 2018. It is definitely a case of more of the same after Origins but it does make minor changes that lead to a more enjoyable game. Firstly Kassandra is fantastic, her voice acting is excellent and her character is fun and well written. When I had finished the game I even went back and did side missions just so I could see more of her. It is worth noting that Alexios is also an option but doesn't seem as well realised and lacks some of Kassandra's charm. The game took me around 65 hrs to complete the multiple story threads (Family, Cult, Mercenaries and Atlantis) and I reached max level just before taking on the last cult members. I did not use any boosters and the microtransactions did not encroach on my enjoyment of the game at all. If you are willing to do a few side missions and want to finish the story you will have no problem avoiding paying for any boosters or gear. Overall Odyssey is Origins in another setting and with a few new systems and improvements but It surprised me how much I ended up enjoying it.

Red Dead Redemption 29

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a very good game but like all games, it has its flaws. Rockstar has crafted one of the most detailed and beautiful open worlds and combined it with a captivating story and memorable characters but it is often let down by tediously long journeys in between missions and some fidgety controls. Overall the game feels very similar to the original Red Dead Redemption in terms of controls and plotting and it is a shame some lessons weren't learned from more recent titles in terms of being user-friendly and respecting the player's time.
