I play since 1983 and always open to new & fresh ideas, for me that´s part of videogaming, being a kid of the 80s 90s this truly felt like a gift for me, if you are into electronic dance music and loved going back in the day to electronic parties, THIS is for you, even if you´re not that much into video games, this starts simple and gets more challenging and fun as you advance. I bought this two times just to show my appreciation and cheers to the creative minds behind the game design and soundtrack.

Just finished playing this game, was a big fan of the first and this one doesn´t dissapoints, although inferior in some aspects such as action and overall easier. On the positive side the music again kick ass, and visually is beautiful, specially in the breach area were the game boasts some psychedelic visuals and the music is great electrosynth, the level design is as good or maybe better than the first one, and the story is still engaging and out of the ordinary. Simple, liked the first one? GET THIS, like metroidvanias? GET THIS.

I´ve been a Mario fan since its inception in the early 80s and loved most of the mainline games, huge fan of the first 3 super mario games for the nes, loved the snes one and yoshi´s island and certainly felt mario64 was a masterpiece. Wasn´t too keen on Sunshine but like it for what it was, and feel both Galaxies are masterpieces, top of what Mario could be, Mario 3d World as well consider it a REALLY fun game specially the after credits levels. Ok I say all that so you know I know my mario and feel SAD to give this one such a low score, which I´m feeling actually generous because this game was the epitome of BOREDOM, levels practically have no platforming or reason to be all the game is just hunting those moons which more than half are a chore to get without any real skill, is like if in zelda breath of the wild, all you did in the damn game was getting the korok seeds, yes, is that boring, I can´t believe people gave this game 9s and 10s is really mediocre, the 6 points I give are just for the visuals, music and all the neat little ideas that weren´t really exploided well, otherwise I would give it a 10 like MOST Marios out there, really dissappointed of this.

I´m biased with this one, but that´s because I loved the original Castlevania and always felt Simon´s Quest was a flawed great game for its time, this took heavy inspiration from it and not only fixed its faults but did contribute with a lot of other stuff making the game more diverse dynamic and replayable, if you like a good oldschool challenge that doesn´t rests on its laurels give this a try.

16bit rpgs age like wine, ps1 (3d) rpgs age like fish... and this is the perfect example. Back in the day I enjoyed it, specially for its amazing soundtrack which i think is its best feature. Story is not bad, characters stinks, after ff6 I felt the brains of the developers somehow got fried. Nowadays is even a worse experience to play it, the loading screen, the ugly visuals, specially in 3D form, sometimes they remind me of popeye. I give it a 6. soundtrack earns a 10. This has to be the most overrated RPG ever, and it has many reasons for it, back in the day rpgs where not that famous among the masses, and this game, appeared on the new sony machine, giving amazing graphics for its day, convinced many people to switch to sony instead of nintendo too. This is the first RPG several thousands of players played for the first time, and well it was good! But for those many of us who knew square magic since the days of the nes it was ok at best. Now i compare and see i love way more the visuals on the snes, those little characters with big expressive eyes, somehow managed to provoque a better emotional reaction from me, than the blocky shaped ones from the 3D games. If you haven´t played you dont miss much, but if you're a rpg fan play it, is not bad, but is not even among the best final fantasies. Which in my opinion are ff4, 5, 6 and 9.

I play since 1983 and the reason I´m still playing is thanks to games like this. Ultra 3d graphics stopped to impress me long ago and I´m less keen on overly complicated games (red dead redemption 2 comes to mind among others). THIS is the game I was waiting for my whole life, we as kids in the 80s dreamed **** that truly looked like a cartoon (and were trolled by Dragon´s Lair and such). This game is pretty much perfect, even without taking in account its AMAZING artstyle and top of the line music. The story is endearing and the gameplay has precise controls, is hard, but not that hard, is really a fair challenge if you don´t chicken up you´ll prevail and feel like a god at the end of the game. If you liked games like contra, mega man, gradius, rtype, metal slug, etc.. make yourself a favor and GET this game, anything less than a 10 for this is a insult to the revolutionary nature of this game.

Well, bought this game when it came out but just now finished it, and im GLAD I played it! has some of the best tradition of the golden era of rpgs (16bit) going on and refines it a little bit. Graphics/art: The towns are marvelous with hand drawing on them, thats the best part, the map is generic and boring so are the dungeons, character art is ok, look way better in the 2d hand drawn inspired from the game. music : is good, nothing special, no tune will be glued to your brain, and here´s a downer, after 70 hours listening the same battle music all over again perfectly makes me never want to play this game again! but overall the tunes are ok. story: is good, the first 30hours are boring and generic, was really worried it wasnt truly going anywhere and the characters also felt boring and simple until things evolve and everything becomes more loveable. but that also has a lot to do with: gameplay: the complex job system and overall battles are the best aspect of this game, truly gets challending in normal mode after 50 hours or so.. its been a while since I found such a challenging rpg that truly requires startegy to win. That leads me to the most controversial aspect of the game. Have you seen the movie the groundhog day? (very minor spoiler) well it does it to you by replaying parts of the game over and over, maybe one or two times would been great and integral to the story, but after 4 you really start to wonder wtf was goign on...until you accept it (my case) as central to the narrative of the game, also some dialogs change to keep things fresh and you get to see different perspectives that blurry the line between the good and the bad guys, that was very well done. (altho 2 times were more than enough to repeat everything in my opinion!) Overall this is a great game and a must play for old rpg fans dont miss it ever!

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number10
Jan 1, 2016
Very rarely a sequel deserves a 10, sometimes they made everything bigger just for the sake of it and something gets lost in the middle. Thats not the case with this amazing masterpiece of gameplay, storytelling and soundtrack. Take any big production game from 2015 and this little gem will beat it with ease, if you like great challenges while hypnotized with some of the best music to ever grace a videogame please hop in and you won´t be dissapointed, and if you played the first one, rest assured this is even better yes! Eventually things will be harder than the first but you´re already an experienced player (im glad its obvious that the makers had in mind that everyone playing this already beat the first so they increased the difficulty) in the end you wont believe how good you can become while making of every stage an excercise in choreagraphy. GET THIS, and in ps vita is the best of course!

DAMN DAMN DAMN! SO glad i picked up this! Being a oldschool (and new school) player I cherish the great graphics and long gameplay of nowadays videogames, but as many have noted, they lack challenge and soul as well, this one has both and lots of style as well. Gameplay mechanics of this game surpass most of the AAA titles available today, and there is a tremendous rush of adrenaline, like dark souls is hard but in a way that you even laugh when you die and there comes the urge to try it again and again until you master it. Story is minimal but so well done! with a secret ending explaining things further more, is like a Lynch movie in the coherence department. The artstyle is beautiful with a strong neon 80´s influence. THE MUSIK!!! maybe the best thing along the gameplay, THATS HOW VIDEOGAME MUSIC HAS TO SOUND! Now videogame music sounds like straight from a movie, i love the electronic identity of old videogames, this one has many styles from many artists mostly 80s and late 90s with some electro, synth pop, techno, house influenced music thrown in, is a triumph and best soundtrack of the year no doubt! The 10 goes to every part of the game, its a shame how many games get good scores only because they look amazing, this one deserves every part of the 10, only flaw is that when is over you crave for more.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch10
Jun 20, 2015
Im biased because this game represents something i always wanted in my life, an RPG that strongly resembled a cartoon! The artstyle this game deliver has to be yet surpassed is simply a joy to watch everything and wander around, through the whole game the visual quality never lets down. Also is not completely linear and encourages exploration, lots of monsters to aid you in your quest, nice orchestral soundtrack and a nice story makes this a must have and probably future classic.

Bloodborne10
Jun 20, 2015
Demon souls 4, ops i mean Bloodborne is a souls game in everything except name, and thats a GOOD thing, back is the relentlessly difficulty amazing atmosphere and customization of any of the souls games, this one is way faster tho, and focused on offensive combat rather than deffense (you don't have a shield this time around). If you loved past souls games this is a must, is even better than dark souls 2, if you didn't liked its unforgiving difficulty stay away from it cause this is a hard game no doubt, but if you endure the experience, the reward is fantastic, this is an RPG were the experience points goes directly into the player!

You cannot ask for a greater platformer, this along rayman legends and new super mario bros wii u will keep you busy for a while until the next masterpieces comes. Be warned this game IS NOT FOR KIDS, at least the little ones, been playing for 3 decades and this game was certainly a challenge, no talk about getting all the secrets! Great music, sometimes chilled, sometimes rocking, amazing visuals, the whole game is a trip and the dynamic changes in the camera are just perfect to keep the 2d platforming from being boring. Level design is good never repetitive, and the bosses are the best part of the game, again loved how hard this game is, wasnt expecting such a challenge from a game with infant themes. 100% recommended.

Based on the reviews and videos i took the chance to play this game, and well is great! Graphics, voice acting, script, gameplay which although basic is fun in its own right. You DON'T need to be a fan of the series to like it, i've maybe seen 2 episodes at much! Is just about a bunch of kids who exploit their imagination by thinking they're inside a fantasy world filled with monsters, elves, etc etc.. And the humor may be the best thing about the game, is a very funny experience. Guess i'll start watching the show from now on!

This game truly takes you to another realm and has a sort of spirituality to it, a mesmerizing experience, immersive unique, nintendo should hire the people behind this game thats all i have to say! If the indie scene keeps releasing games like this im sold then! No game impressed me so much about its gameplay mechanics since mario galaxy game of the year for me!

The Last Story8
Jan 7, 2015
Im putting an 8 just because the game kicked ass in the final moments, but truly deserves a 7.5 being generous. The last story is a nice story with its faults of narrative, sometimes you feel they missed some spots to make the story more believable, but it also compensates by giving some sweet moments that immerse you in the tale. Expect some bidimensional antagonists and some surprises as well. Battle system, when you get the hang of things is great, too bad the game is TOO EASY! practically plays by itself. It is also very linear and short but those things i dont mind really. Last 2 bosses are challenging enough specially if you come under leveled (there's no need to grind in this game at all!) Characters are nice except for the main one, voice acting is ok, music is alright with some nice tunes near the end as well. Dont expect a masterpiece, take the game for what it is and youll enjoy it! A nice experience not to be missed by RPG fans and non alike, specially since is a good game to introduce anyone to the genre, is THAT easy.

3D Dot Game Heroes9
Nov 20, 2014
Clone? Parody? Homage? All those three and a little more in this marvelous little adventure gem. For those of us who grew up with the nes and snes zelda games this is a obligatory item to have, im sure some gamers miss the pixel or artificial synthetic quality of early console aesthetic, what 3d Dot Game Heroes does perfectly is updating the artstyles of early games like dragonquest or zelda into a newer generation system (ps3) and does it perfectly, adding amazing gameplay in the mix. So yes, plays a LOT like link to the past, and thats GOOD! Controls are very good but you gotta practice a while for diagonal hits. (a combination of up+left, down+left, etc etc) Recommended for those who want amazing visuals without loosing the essence of what a videogame is for real retro fans!

NIER9
Nov 7, 2014
Im glad to write this years after playing it so my head is cold enough to give it its proper rating. The weakest aspect of this is the gameplay itself, but is not bad, controls are excellent and maybe its too easy, be sure to play it on hard. The game never feels repetitive thats also another good thing, how it changes sometimes radically. High points are the soundtrack which is one of the best ever and suits the game like no other but is the story what makes this game a joy, and earns its high score even if the gameplay gets a 7. Nier probably has one of, if not the best story ever in a videogame, is very adult themed, kind of sad and gets uncovered the more you play the game (great replay value, i finished it 3-4 times i think to get its extra endings). The second time you play it, you see the argument from your enemy perspective with incredible results. A cult game and a hidden gem indeed, Nier is one of the games that touches you and you never forget about it.

Gravity Rush8
Nov 7, 2014
Unique and original but somehow lacking, altho a must play in my opinion, not just for the nice gameplay, but for the game engine, always thought that this way of game has to be repeated again and again, would be a SHAME that this mechanics would be only used in this cause they rock and steal the show. Controls at first are complex BUT trust me, they end up being great and fun, gameplay is too easy and thats my only grip. You get the feeling also that more could be done with that amazing "alter gravity feature" can't wait for the sequel! recommended for someone who wants to play something different!

Alright, whoever puts less than a 10 to this has simply problems with their brains, this is 11/10, only perfect games on it and with nicer graphics than the originals, ACTUALLY im getting a snes console just for this game and mario world, just those 2 im interested to have! So kids can play like it used to be, fast, no loading no cd **** Mario1, the only game that i can play anytime, anywhere, love the rest, but this is the one that got me hooked to videogames. Mario2, amazing fantasy world, intended to be a mario title in japan, then changed to dokidoki panic then made a mario again for the occidental market, is underrated, love it way more than the new super mario bros series. mario the lost levels, japan version of mario2, uses exactly the same engine as mario1 but harder and cooler! mario3, nes masterpiece, if you havent played this, never say you're into videogames.

Unique game with great story which is its main draw. Artstyle is remarkable and so the characters. Everyday im moving towards this type of game, less or no item usage, simple gameplay (but complex in its own way) and very atmospheric, like a surreal ethereal experience. At first thought this was going to be another zelda clone, and while its inspired by it, is a complete different thing. My only grip is the controls, but they are not that bad, dont kill the experience at all. Cannot recommend this enough, just go and play it if you haven't is one of those games you'll treasure and keep for your grandchildren to play. Timeless almost masterpiece.

Nov 6, 2014
Love long games, i feel im getting more for my money, having said that, MORE than long games, i LOVE GREAT GAMES, and thats what another world (out of this world) is to me, this is one of those games that changed the lifes of those who played it when it came out, it was also made entirely by one guy! My fav version so far is the snes one, since they put extra music which truly set the mood in some parts of the game. This is a very cinematic game, and one of the first to do that, but also has very interesting gameplay, hit or miss sometime you'll die many times in a trial and error manner, never loosing the fun, you dont mind cause you're very interested about what comes next! love the sequel too, shame they didn't included it in this anniversary release since the game is very short. The sequel is a very good game and gives it a proper closure in my opinion, only released for sega cd, so get an emulator and play it! This game is one of the favorite games of metal gear creator Koshima, play it and see why.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky9
Oct 28, 2014
Maybe this game deserves an 8, but im putting it a 9 for several reasons, specially that it came in a moment i was craving for a good oldschool turnbased RPG. Is nothing ultra epic but what it does, does it very well. A very cute romantic story that takes its time to develop, nice characters, some laughs along the way, and a twist near the end that will make you wanna play the sequel. This reminded me of the time when you just enjoyed a good game, like secret of mana or chronotrigger no matter the graphics that much. Having said that the game visually is beautiful with good attention to detail. Many will miss this and is a shame cause is a truly good game, im still waiting for the sequel!

Oct 28, 2014
The greatness of this game caught me off guard. Had it on my collection for some months and one day decided to give it a shot, WOW. Best RPG on the gamecube? This is a port of the original from the sega dreamcast, i've read everything is better except the music who knows... The thing is this is a must play rpg, go get a cube and find this game if you haven't played it, is charming and does everything well. Appart from the usual turnbased battle mode and nice exploration on a airship, you have to do air battles that can take 30mins or more to complete! Characters are great too. One of the most beautiful endings as well. 100% recommended!

Xenogears9
Oct 28, 2014
Xenogears was supposedly to be the real final fantasy 7! But they changed the idea because the story was too controversial for a final fantasy, and well they sold the FF7 we got instead... Probably the best RPG on the ps1 console boasts great music, characters and overall gameplay, but is the AMAZING story the star in here, is a long game that you have to play twice or check after the wikis on the net. The pace is not the best granted and maybe that could be fixed on a remake and the anime sequences are unnecessary as well. They did not connect well with the game. This game cries for a remake, leave everything intact just change some interface and graphics respecting the original artstyle, it just dont look so nice now, that problem has plagued MOST ps1 games, at least the ones that use polygons or zoom effects like xeno. (vagrant story another candidate for remake please!).

Oct 28, 2014
There's a reason (or many) for ALWAYS owning the nintendo console of the moment, and this is one of them, alright ps3 had more rpgs (which i loved) but wii got the best one of its generation! The main point of this game is the story, specially the ending which is mind blowing, the soundtrack is also epic and a must have on cd. Battles are incredible too, never got bored of them after 90 hours of playing! The only downside i see to this incredible game is that it gets repetitive a little bit after a while, the dungeons have no imagination, you just walk and battle thats ALL you're going to do in them, no puzzle element at all. So why did they made them SO big! So many in this game is big for the sake of being big! Both the organic world and the machine world are a joy to behold, and the game's filled with amazing characters, LOVE the choice of british voices for the characters, they should do that always, american dubbing has ruined great games like the tales series (which i rather put in mute!). You cannot go wrong with xenoblade chronicles, is the rpg fan wet dream.

I never play FPS, dunno... feel them flat and boring, maybe as kid i digged duke nukem and thats it. Then i kept sawing reviews about Bioshock, how good it was... then bought Bio infinite and thought it was cool, but THEN played the bio1 that came free within the game an VIOLA! The best FPS ive ever played, if you're like me who despises brainwash war games like call of duty and all that crap, try this, the artdesign, music, twisted characters and over all gameplay are a joy to play! What drove people mad about this overrated game was its AMAZING art design & graphics, which are some of the best. The story is good enough although takes some twists that weren't necessary in my opinion, the racial focused story at the beginning was good enough to me. Voice acting is perfect, soundtrack is great, what lacks is the exploration element, too linear for me. and yes Bioshock1 is ten times better, so if you need some bioshock in your life, play the first and then try this one!

WOW WOW AND WOW. Now there's a game that when i saw it for the first time i knew i was going to love it, and never disappointed me one bit. Is a short masterpiece without a single flaw, try to play it a year after finishing it, i guarantee you'll forget most of its riddles and have a good time again. My fav thing about it is how some of the puzzles seems impossible the first time you play them, you tried every combination but there's always another way of doing things. That being said, the puzzles are not "myst hard" no no, eventually everyone will discover them with patience. Great atmospheric sound and black & white graphics with many shades of grey make this a visually rewarding experience, beating many ultra budget crappy games in that aspect. PLAY THIS GAME.

Alright, is not super mario galaxy but it doesnt needs to be, this game shines by itself. While we wait for the next mario masterpiece how about a little masterwork by the geniuses at nintendo? You cannot go wrong with mario, this one has the tight controls, great soundtrack, amazing original levels that you expect from the franchise.

Demon's Souls (2009)10
Oct 25, 2014
Heheheh i remember how much thought i gave to getting this game, the legendary difficulty was a little intimidating and overall saw both nice and bad reviews about it. Yes, the game's hard, but not impossible, everyone with patience and dedication can beat it eventually. This has to be my favorite souls encarnation, all 3 of them so far are incredible, but always go back to this one, thanks to the story (by far the best by a BIG margin) characters and level design. The difficult here seems more "intelligent" than in dark souls and surely than dk2. This game is way shorter than them but thats not a bad thing at all, is cool for frequent replays. The boletaria castle area is one of the best levels ive played in my life, is a testament of the imagination of the creators,it can be said they had great fun in doing it. This is also the darkest of the souls games, is unbeatable, even if dk world is bigger and nicer overall. One of the best games of its generations, in my top10 of ps3 for sure, never played it but played the other souls games? GET THIS NOW. Is almost perfect.

After FF7 & 8 squaresoft decided to make a TRUE final fantasy game and the last and only FF in cd format that i love. Wish they remade this only graphically, cause is such a sweet game! Characters, soundtrack, etc you feel like in a circus fantasy experience. Play it if you can, like all ps1 3D games has not aged so good, but still has the nice 2D backgrounds to enjoy. Its the characters that could get some work on a remake. Recommended.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night9
Oct 25, 2014
Wow, if the ps1 was a 3D gaming platform im glad they released some 2D games because those are the only ones i still can play on that console, the 3d ones look ugly as hell. Making the next castlevania in 2D was the best choice for konami, and thanks to that (and ultra amazing gameplay) I can recommend this game for generations to come. The gameplay changed a lot since super castlevania IV on the snes, they took out the "short" stages and made it a single BIG stage and added lots of rpg elements, also took heavy inspiration from super metroid, both games are very similar but great in their own way. Now you use Alucard the son of Dracula and thats also a improvement, he's the best character in a castlevania game, has something about him and the developers know thats why he keeps reappearing in their games. The soundtrack is one of the best as well. The game is lengthy with a secret that lets you go into a big world that can be missed if you dont do the right things. 100% recommended.

Oct 25, 2014
Always loved mario, but it was until mario64 that it became one of my fav games and earned from me the title as best videogame ever, is the only classic game that in my opinion got better with the jump to 3D, for example, "new super mario bros" is nice and fun, but empty of challenge and imagination. Everything 2d mario could made was done in mario3 for the nes. Mario galaxy is still at the top of the foodchain in videogaming, no game has even come close, maybe zelda which i love, but this is still the best game. Will take years maybe decades if we're not lucky for a game to surpass the imagination that went behind this masterpiece, this is the only videogame so far that gives you a more or less 4D experience. Tight control, nice soundtrack, every stage is different, 10 different games could came out of this one actually! This is the reason i need to own every nintendo console, im still waiting for "gakaxy 3". NEVER let the childish look of mario fool you, this is as best as videogaming can get.

When I played Ocarina of time i thought was among the best games i ever played... but even back in the day the 3d visuals didnt impressed me to much, more was the aspect of the 3d gaming that i loved. Link world certainly looks more alive and better overall on the snes masterpiece. Have played all zeldas, and this one is still the best to recommend, the one that captures what a zelda game has to be. Anything less than a 10 is a insult to this game. haven't played it? feel SORRY for you, you're missing out one of the top 10 videogames ever created! Soundtrack is magical as well.

Final Fantasy VI10

There are times when a 10 is not enough for a game, this one will be played and beloved for decades to come, it set the bar for what an rpg has to be, and has never been surpassed since, this is the peak of RPG gaming and the best final fantasy ever made. Its been a downhill since then for squaresoft. The story is so detailed without getting boring (skyrim) so humanistic without being cheesy, sad without being depressive, and positive in the end as well. Characters are amazing, i actually dont like how developers abuse the cute anime look, but thanks to yoshikata amano's designs FF6 has some of the most charming guys around, you play with human beings this time, each one with their hopes and personal issues. THE MUSIC! Top contender for the best soundtrack ever! in 16bit glory! A mix of classical and progressive influences, best soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu ever, and he has done lots of them! Visually is also intense considering how old the game is, love how square toned down the palette for this one, goes along perfect with the story they are telling, which is epic and poetic. Battles are not so hard but not so easy as well, they will give you the challenge you need to go along with the story without getting bored. Not only the best rpg ever, but also one of the best videogames ever, if you hate rpgs play it to see what is all about.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles9

Sometimes a game looses a well deserved score just for a hater, and no, is not someone with a different opinion, someone may say he hated zelda a link to the past, and thats good, but the game's still a masterpiece no matter what. Same happens here, if you LOVE rpgs you simply have to play tales of symphonia, end of story. Great visuals, music, amazing story and the gameplay is not bad at all. This game is actually one of the best rpgs since a while, along with xenoblade, last story, and a very few others. I can say is better than all final fantasies in cd format tied with 9 maybe. So if you didnt played it on the Cube be nice to your videogaming needs and get this, looks even better with the overhaul on the ps3! And has the sequel which is nothing big but is not bad either.
