Death's Gambit: Afterlife7
Aug 24, 2024
I recently finished Death’s Gambit: Afterlife and it was an enjoyable experience overall. The game has good art design along with a decent soundtrack. The game play is smooth and the combat is engaging and fun. The game excels in its story, as well as in the voice acting. If you are looking for a Metroidvania game or soulslike, I would recommend it. I finished the game got the true ending, but missed a lot of other content in the game and didn’t feel compelled to get it or play NG+. The inventory is clunky, feels dated. The map marker isn’t right, you can’t accurately use it, unable to pinpoint correctly. The biggest thing for me was the NPCs being killed off mysteriously, those NPCs sell abilities, that now you can’t get. I didn’t clue in to what was going on right away and it felt like I missed the opportunity to try new abilities/builds. Played on PS5, not Switch. 7/10

Mass Effect Legendary Edition8
Aug 19, 2024
I recently completed the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. To summarize, all three games are good games, each game improving on the next in some way. The story is excellent that carries on through all three games, making your decisions matter as they affect the story. The first game shows its age, but it’s still fun. The graphics, music, performance (played on PS5), and voice acting, especially in ME3 is all very solid. What really holds the games back for me is the button layout and the weapon/skill wheel. The button layout is awful and there’s no option in any of the games to change it. For instance, “X” is the interact, take cover, dodge roll, and sprint button when held, because of this I found it difficult to manoeuvre around because as you sprint by a wall, or anything the game will force you into cover. In addition, the inability to hotkey more skills. You can only have one of your squad mate’s skills on hotkey, if you want to use another skill you have bring up the wheel, which pauses the game and is inconvenient to use. The game goes on sale periodically for dirt cheap, which is most certainly worth it. 8/10

Army of Ruin9
Aug 12, 2024
I was looking to play vampire survivors, but it is not available on PlayStation at this time. I came across Army of Ruin and I really enjoyed it. There are tons of different characters, weapons, and trinkets to unlock as you play through various levels and complete challenges. The game progression is smooth as you continue through the game. All the different characters have different abilities and stats, which you can compliment with the combination of weapons and trinkets. This allows the player to try all kinds of different builds and play styles as you progress. The game runs pretty smooth overall, not perfectly though. There are times when there’s so much going on the screen it is hard to see things, and you can inadvertently take damage. I recommend the game, it’s a lot of fun and inexpensive.

Salt and Sanctuary8
Jun 9, 2024
I picked up Salt and Sanctuary recently on sale for $2.75 and it was an enjoyable time playing it. The game plays as a side-scrolling soulslike metroidvania. The combat in the game is smooth and fun, lots of interesting areas to progress through, lots of various enemies, and loads of boss fights as well. There is a big skill tree with lots of customization which is always welcomed, however you cannot fully respec your character, only getting a few items here and there that could reset an allocated point. This limits the ability to try different weapons and builds, I would have liked to play around with magic, or try a dex build but I couldn’t because I was too invested in strength. I think giving the player more options with respec would improve the game. Played the game for close to 35 hours before getting the ending. Even being 8 years old, it’s still an enjoyable game, certainly for fans of soulslike and or Metroidvanias. 8.5/10

Lords of the Fallen8
May 29, 2024
I never played Lords of the Fallen 2014, but when I saw Lords of the Fallen 2023 for 50% off I figured I’d give it a try as there are a ton of mixed reviews for this game. The developers released a big patch for the game earlier this year. I have to say the game is good, and quite enjoyable for the most part if you enjoy souls like games, which I throughly do. The game makes use of an Umbral realm, entering with the use of your lantern. You can peer into or switch into Umbral smoothly with no performance issues and it’s pretty cool. That being said I didn’t have any performance issues during my playthrough. The music is also enjoyable throughout the game. There’s lots of different enemies and bosses. That being said, early game bosses become regular enemies in the late game, which I was disappointed about. Graphically the game is great also. My biggest issues with the game were I did find it confusing on where to go during certain points of the game, and I did find the lock on system to be wonky at times, not locking on to the most obvious enemy as it should have. But overall, this game is pretty good, it’s not perfect but if you enjoy these types of games, you will enjoy Lords of the Fallen. 8.5/10

Stellar Blade8
May 17, 2024
I recently finished Stellar Blade, as well as one play through on NG+. The game is a solid, fun experience but I think it could have had some improvements in certain areas. The game plays as a hack and slash adventure, with a decent story that keeps things interesting. The game is somewhat linear, but there large areas/zones to explore, and you are able to backtrack easily with fast travel which is nice. The crux of this game is the combat. It is so much fun to smash enemies with so many different abilities/combos. The boss fights are pretty good too. The music is excellent, however I think there could have been more variety, it kinda gets old as the hours go by. The performance is top tier, it runs flawlessly which makes the combat that much better. I did have a few issues with game, one being that you can’t set your own markers on the map for points of interest that you may want to return to later. Additionally, I wish there was a bit more customization options with the gear and expospines as most of the collectibles are purely cosmetic, earrings, glasses, outfits which are cool to try out, but if it doesn’t affect the gameplay, it doesn’t interest me as much. 8.5/10

Remnant II9
May 2, 2024
I never played the first Remnant game, but when I saw that Remnant 2 was on sale for about $45 I figured I’d give it a try. I fell in love with this game almost right away. I enjoyed it so much I purchased the DLC bundle, played through the campaign twice by myself, once on veteran difficulty, and again on apocalypse difficulty. There is basically endless customization and character builds in this game. When I was playing through on apocalypse, I would get stuck at a boss and try different builds and weapons until I was eventually able to beat it. I absolutely love the possibilities in this game. I played the game for about 150 hours and I was still finding new locations and items. There are also different main story quests, locations, and options to explore, making the replayability awesome. multiplayer is also quite fun, very easy to just jump into a game with people and start killing enemies and bosses. The game can be a bit of grind if you are looking for specific items or gear, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. This is one of the only games that after I platinumed it, I continued to play, I enjoy it that much. The only negative thing I can mention is sometimes I found at random my buffs would be lost from my character, I would have to unequip an item and equip to get the buff to work again. Other than that, the game is masterful on so many levels, and a lot of fun. I look forward to revisiting the game when the 3rd DLC comes out. 9.5/10

South Park: The Fractured But Whole8
May 2, 2024
I’ve recently finished playing through South Park: The Fractured but Whole as it was added to PlayStation plus. The game is on par with the first game, you have to enjoy the humor of South Park to enjoy this game. I laughed a bunch of times throughout my play through. Much like the first game, this game plays through turn based combat on a grid system, allowing characters to be shuffled around accordingly, thus incorporating a degree of strategy. The playable characters in the game are based on superheroes, all with their own unique abilities, with customization options for the main character. There’s lots of different side quests and items to find much like the first one. The game isn’t super long, it took me about 25 hours or so to complete. The story of the game is very outlandish, but there are lots of laughs to be had. Definitely a fun game to play, but even still in 2024. 8/10

South Park: The Stick of Truth8
Apr 8, 2024
I recently played through Stick of Truth as it added to PlayStation plus. This game is basically one giant ridiculous South Park episode that plays through turn based combat. There are various comedic side quests and different weapons and equipment to find and use. The game is pretty short to complete, but there are lots of laughs to had if you enjoy the humour of South Park. Definitely still worth playing a decade after its release. 8.5/10

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown9
Mar 31, 2024
Prince of Persia lost crown is a top tier Metroidvania game. The game plays similarly to other Metroidvania games in the fashion of obtaining new abilities to access new areas of the game. There’s lots of collectibles and 9 side quests, so you are always rewarded when exploring. The story is fine, but the gameplay is what makesthis game shine. The combat is real smooth and responsive, there’s lots of different abilities and different items for customization, lots of various enemies and bosses, the platforming is challenging in parts, but also very enjoyable. There are a number different puzzles throughout the game as well that are thought provoking and fun. The only issue I really had was often items I was searching for items and once found, I would be in a corner of the map with no fast travels nearby and I would just kill myself to respawn at last resting place. The game could have benefited from a “teleport to town” item of some sorts in my opinion. Fantastic game overall 9/10.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth10
Mar 21, 2024
I played Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for about 150 hours and I will say the game is phenomenal. Absolutely everything about this game is top tier - The combat, character customization, the story, the music, the enemies, bosses, exploration, side quests and content, the sheer amount of mini games is astounding and they are so much fun. This game makes final fantasy 7 remake feel like it was a mere demo. If you like RPGs or any other final fantasy games, this is a must play. I suppose the only negative I can think of is every time you complete a task (world intel, combat, protorelic, etc) in the open world - Chadley pops on a device to carry to chime in, and it gets gets old real quick. I also found the character Yuffie to be very annoying, she behaves like a 6 year old child. For these reasons I give the game a 9.5/10.

Lies of P9
Mar 2, 2024
Lies of P is a fantastic game. I enjoyed it so much after I finished the game, I immediately played it again on NG+ and then platinumed it. This game plays like any other great souls games in a lot of ways, and it is top tier. Lies of P has a brilliant story and it all comes together nicely in the end. There’s loads of different weapons with lots of customization geared to your preferred play style. There is plenty of boss fights and various enemies throughout the game as well. The music is also top tier and immersive. The game is somewhat linear, however I don’t necessarily see that has a bad thing. If you like games like demon souls, bloodborne, dark souls, etc. you will thoroughly enjoy this game.

The Last Faith8
Feb 16, 2024
I recently played through and acquired all trophies in the last faith. The story and lore of the game is abstract much like other soulslike games. But for me, I don’t play these types of games for the story per se, mostly the combat, exploration, quests, boss fights, character and weapon building, all of which this game excels at. I found the game plays similarly to castlevania: SoTN, giving the game a retro feel with modern polish. The games visual art is dark and well done along with the music to set a creepy atmosphere. There is a wide variety of enemy types and bosses, tons of secrets and weapons and spells to discover and try. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game, if you like soulslike Metroidvanias like blasphemous, grime, moon scars, etc. you’ll like this game. However I do have a few issues with the game. First, when you die and drop your nycrux (souls) there isn’t an indication on the map where to pick them up - which is annoying if you don’t remember exactly where you died. Second, when you die during a boss fight, your nycrux doesn’t drop outside of the boss area, so you have to re-enter the boss area and defeat the boss in order to keep your nycrux, and there were instances where I unknowingly walked into a boss fight with a lot of nycrux. Lastly, there is no respec option for your stat build, which limits the opportunity you get to try other builds with other weapons (dex, str ,ranged attacks, spells) you have to stay committed to the build you started with. For those reasons the game gets a 8/10 from me

Metal: Hellsinger8
Feb 4, 2024
Metal: Hellsinger is a short ride, but it’s a sweet one. I found the rhythmic FPS to be very engaging and just a blast to play. As this game is based on attacks on beat throughout various songs and levels. I think that it’s best enjoyed with headphones. However if you do not like metal music, I would not play this game. Otherwise, It’s definitely worth a play through 8/10.

Octopath Traveler II9
Jan 31, 2024
Octopath Traveler II is a phenomenal game. It improves on the first game in a number of ways, such as adding in“2X” speed option during combat, or adding in the day/night cycle of the game, tand more. The soundtrack in this game is incredible, the graphics are top tier as well with vibrant colours. There is lots of customization too with pairing jobs (secondary classes) with different characters, stats, equipment, formation, etc. Overall, this game is masterpiece in its genre. Definitely recommend if you like turned based RPGs. My own experience, sometimes I felt the story dragged on just a tad too long for me. 9.5/10

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars8
Jan 18, 2024
Asterigos is a solid action adventure game with solid combat, level design, story, music, character progression and boss encounters. It’s known as a soulslike, but I don’t really think it is. I played the game for about 40 hours on challenge mode and found it to be pretty easy. The game does have a few issues worth mentioning. The game has no map, I don’t understand why a modern game like this has no map. It also has no navigation system for quests/objectives which would have been a big help. I often found myself getting lost in certain areas that are similar, like the city. The game doesn’t keep track of sides either, making it difficult to complete them. The story is decent, told through dialogue by NPCs, however there is too much unnecessary dialogue that doesn’t pertain to the story. Thankfully, you can just skip over this if you prefer. Another issue is the enemy AI is pretty bad. Enemies will just stand there when they should be attacking you. Overall, the game is pretty solid and enjoyable, but it does have some issues. 8/10.

Moonscars8
Jan 10, 2024
I recently finished my play through of Moonscars and I found It to be quite an enjoyable game. Moonscars is a 2D souls-like metroidvania. The combat feels smooth and is what you’d expect from a souls-like game. The pixel art is fantastic, I enjoyed the music too as it helped with the dark atmosphere. The fast travel system is great for zipping around too. The game isn’t overly difficult, there are much harder games out there. The game gives you ample opportunity to heal frequently, making it easier. The lore in the game is a bit abstract but it’s decent. I don’t play these types of game for the story. I play for the combat and character progression which this game certainly has. The game isn’t super long either, which I kind of enjoyed. The biggest complaint I could make is that there is no objective marked on the map at any point, so sometimes I found myself getting a little confused on where to go, but not that big of a deal. If you like Metroidvania games like blasphemous, grime, or SOTN, etc you will enjoy this game. 8/10

RoboCop: Rogue City9
Jan 7, 2024
Robocop is a first person shooter that is tons of fun to play. The combat is top notch with excellent music that captures the moment. Robocops character development is decent too with a bunch of different skills that you can choose from. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously with little side quests/tasks you can do like ticketing illegally parked vehicles or robocop’s little one liner zingers he says as he’s about to break down a door and start blasting away. This had me laughing throughout my play through, very enjoyable. It doesn’t get 10/10 only because the animations during conversations and cut scenes could have been improved, they’re definitely off at times. But in the end you don’t play first person shooter games for dialogue, so for me I didn’t mind too much. 9/10

GRIME7
Jan 4, 2024
I recently finished grime on ps5. The game is a 2D souls like Metroidvania game. There are rpg elements in terms of leveling up and assigning traits essentially. The story/lore in the game is very abstract and difficult to follow. There is wide variety of weapons and items to obtain through exploration. The atmosphere is cool, along with great music. The combat is what you would expect from a souls like game. The exploration is rewarding, especially when finding a powerful weapon. My biggest issue with the game is the travelling system. There are “fast travel” areas, I think maybe 5 or 6 of them that will take you to and from various areas but you still have to travel on foot a fair distance, especially if your back tracking or exploring. There were a bunch of items I marked on the map that I couldn’t get originally because I didn’t unlock certain game mechanics yet. I never returned for them because I just didn’t want to take the time to run around everywhere. A similar game like blasphemous 2 has a much better fast travel system. Overall the game is fun to play, it’s challenging but rewarding. If you like Metroidvania and souls like games, you’ll enjoy it. 7.5/10

Cult of the Lamb8
Dec 14, 2023
I recently picked up cult of the lamb on sale and enjoyed my time with the game. I’m not a fan of farming simulation games, but the cult/follower management wasn’t too bad for me, it has some fun elements. The combat was pretty good too, kind of basic but fun nonetheless. Most of the game’s mechanics aren’t super in depth, but it is still an enjoyable game to play through. It’s worth a buy, especially on sale.

Alan Wake II10
Dec 9, 2023
Alan Wake 2 has an intriguing story that kept me wanting to play more and more. The game has a very dark atmosphere and incredible music that adds to it. The encounters with enemies are less frequent than they were in the first game, but they are more meaningful and challenging. The game plays at a slower tense pace that rewards exploration with lots of equipment/upgrades to be found. The games story intertwines with themes from other Remedy games such as control and the first Alan wake. The story can be little confusing at times with lots of references to things from the first Alan wake game. I think it would best enjoyed if you played through the first game beforehand. Overall, everything is just great about this game - from combat/enemies, locations, level design, story, graphics/art, design, music, etc. I would say that Alan wake 2 is a masterpiece and if you like horror survival games you gotta play it.

I never played the first Alan Wake game. I recently picked up the remastered game on a deep sale, and it’s a lot of fun. It has an intriguing story, fun gameplay, and great dark setting filled with some good scares. I enjoyed the combat systems, especially the haptic trigger functions. I think this is game a great pick up, highly recommend it. The only real drawback is it can be a little janky at times, but it’s not a game breaker by any means. 8.5/10

Diablo IV3

I don’t typically post things online but I thought I’d share my experience with Diablo 4. I’ve put 400 hours into Diablo 4 in hardcore and I did enjoy the gameplay and the grind for gear and levels, however the game has some fundamental issues and gamebreaking flaws. I logged on, walked out into the open world during a helltide and attacked the first mob of monsters I encountered. I noticed the game was lagging and I could not action anything in the game. I quickly quit the game within a few seconds and when I loaded it back up, it said my character had fallen. It’s unfortunate blizzard cannot provide servers that are safe, secure and lag free. It’s unfair to die in this manner, outside the players control. As silly as this may sound, because it’s only a video game, this loss feels devastating to me. Ultimately I play video games to have fun and this experience has left me feeling upset, frustrated, and defeated. I’ve uninstalled and deleted the game and I will never return to it again in the future. Save yourself the money and time, do not buy or play this game.
