If you're the parent of a 11 year old girl who has gone all moody this movie is probably amazing. For everyone else, it really isn't that great. At least twice it's genuinely boring. My conclusion? All reviewers are are in their late thirties and early forties and have an 11 year old daughter.

Someone somewhere has noticed that retro style games on your phone or computer are popular and that Ready Player One sold bucketloads and 'nostalgia' is cool. Only problem, that person is an idiot who made a brainless kids movie aimed at 10 year old **** when actually the real audience is 30 and 40 somethings who actually played pacman.

Down in Liverpool Street tube in London there are huge posters for this film. On the poster it says in enormous letters 'Psychological Thriller'!! This is NOT A THRILLER. It is I think, even when compared to Interstellar, possibly the slowest and most tedious movie of the last year. It's like an incredibly slow mockumentary. If it was about an hour shorter it would be ok, The main character Steve Carrell plays pauses between each word and slows it all down hugely. The best bit is Channing Tatum's genuine fighting skills and his older brother in the movie who is pretty darn convincing, but the chances of anyone watching this and not being restless or entirely bored for 90% of the film.... 0%.

If you thought prometheus was intelligent, engaging and credible, this is the bore fest movie for you. If you understood everything Bane honked through the cheesgrater on his face in the last batman, this is the mishmash mess for you. If you think superman really exists, and that we should be grateful for such thought provoking super science as his allergy to kypton, this is the 'science' movie for you. If you never, ever, wonder why characters do utterly ridiculous things in movies and feel annoyed at incomprehensible plots, buy a ticket today. if you don't feel a bit annoyed at a director deliberately mixing music and dialogue so NO ONE can hear what is being said, buy the t shirt. If you have any kind of independent cognitive processes, and don't blindly follow the critics, really, honestly, skip it until it comes out onlne/disc and you can skip past the most boring bits.

unless you are a bjork fanatic and happen, as in my case to be dragged along to see it, I would be surprised if you didn't spend at least half the 'film' wondering when it was going to end.

in the audeimce every single person was a male, there were quite a few reenagers. so why is tjis basically a love story, amd why is dracula a good guy? really, and the enemy, the turks, look like a giant boy band. on a side note this is one of the movies where the trailer quite literally gives the whole thing away. why do so many trailers spoil the movie

OK so it has great fx, almost REALLY great fx, but that's it. But apart from that, this is a badly written cowboys and indians movie, with apes instead of injuns and some virus survivors instead of a circle of wagons and John Wayne. The characters are completely predictable and idiotic, it has more holes than gouda cheese and absolutely non of the scope of the original reboot. The whole thing relies on a big fight scene which the hero human could have easily EASILY avoided, as could the super smart apes, but instead the writers just assume that you, me, the audience are dumber than a regular chimp chucking its poop around in your local zoo. There are so many things to dislike and feel cheated by here, guns with never ending ammo, apes suddenly talking to each other for no reason, horribly obvious ape disfigurements to help you recognize which one is which, an orang utan the size of a bus, completely stupid decisions by humans and the most awful 'stirring speeches' by the human leader that would in reality make you want to shoot yourself not an ape, the list goes on. I don't understand 'critics'. this is rubbish. I mean, it looks amazing, and at least you can follow the action, it's not full of jumpy cuts, but really... it's a vfx tour de force, but this is in the same intellectual league as transformers dark of the moon or Need for Speed, Amazing Spiderman 2, the bad Godzilla from the 90s, or even the tim burton version of planet of the apes. So either critics follow each other like sheep, or they deserve a cage in the zoo so they can throw poop at each other and not bother us humans. . So the first time you see a monkey doing something unexpected it provides a cheap thrill but otherwise... this is about

I don't understand the people slagging this off. It's a really good film. Not quite as good as the book but when are they ever? If you haven't read the book, stay away from any annoying trailers that give it all away and go and see it expecting a powerful story that will slowly unfold into one of the great plot finales of any sci fi story. If you have read the book, be pleasantly surprised how this film might twist and turn with some of the elements but under all that, the basic feeling remains the same. If you can't leave your mobile phone alone for more than two minutes and drink red bull all day and never read a book, this movie isn't for you. But... for those of us who relish quiet time to reflect on life and are secretly a bit nerdy, this film is really worth it.

This movie looks just amazing and I think you can say that, aside from animations like Avatar, Up, it's the best 3d film ever made. I'm sure if you dig into it you can find faults with it... like the people here who have given it a bad mark, but COME ON it's absolutely staggeringly well shot that is absolutely gorgeous and utterly compelling. Yes it's a very basic plot, yes it's ultimately limited by having to have a feelgood factor and some Hollywood crassness, and it stars Sandra Bullock who was a seriously odd choice bearing in mind she's about as engaging as a divorce, but overall, it's so much better than any other space movie sci fi, 'thriller' whatever out there because it feels real and looks and sounds absolutely wonderful.

One of those movies like Oblivion where you walk out thinking 'why didn't they just... what was that character doing THAT for...' and not really remembering any dialogue or being that interested in any of the characters or events. The mood and tone is summed up in the first ten minutes when Matt Damon strips off and the most painfully obvious charcoal/ash is there rubbed into his stomach to try and make it look like he has a six pack.

If you are not a fan of the first movie, don't bother. This movie is extremely cheaply made and really formulaic and unexceptional. Where I live in england they have a trailer showing the audience screaming at the shocks, to try and get you to go... a technique which works well... unless you look closely and realise the audience members screaming look like 12 year old girls. Really not one at all for any adult over the age of 20 unless you are really really bored.

It does drag in the middle for sure with the pointless character development but we all know that is to pad out the time while we wait for the next ABSOLUTELY AWESOME MONSTER MASHUP! It's like the best ever video game mixed up with a crappy comic book. One thing, you really MUST see at the cinema. The only excuse for at home is a huge TV and a bag of 'mind enhancing herbs.'

OK I am not going to be a geek and analyse the film or point fingers at the direction or anything like that or give away the plot. Basically, this film is better than man of steel in that it's more involving but doesn't have the mega FX. It's a pretty cool story, but not one you really want to think too hard about otherwise you will start thinking 'well why didn't he just....' Brad goes off on a mission to save the world and he does a good job, the zombies are both scary as hell but gore-free more or less and weirdly 'family friendly' as they both race around and shuffle and jerk in the time-honoured zombie style. The whole thing is a bit like a adventure video game come to life. Def one to see on the big screen.

Far worse than the other two. Only our boozehound and drug addled hero actor offers any value at all. Much better off hiring the first one again. nuff said.

Leave your brain at home and enjoy comic book capers. There are plenty of 'WTF??' moments related to the plot. Constantly shaky camera means you can't really get into the action scenes easily. Lois is not that hot. Superman himself is cool. The bad guys will scare 12 year olds. BUT there's tons of action, thousands get splatted and massive destruction and incredible CGI. Not really worth the 3d ticket. One of those films where you have to see it on the big screen. Watch later at home and you'll be facebooking on your mobile on the sofa and only half watching before you know it.

As usual the user reviews are better than the professional critics. This film is surely epic in the sense that it has some amazing acting and some nice scenery and the sort of spaciousness that There Will Be Blood had. BUT.... pretty much nothing actually happens. Get it later on DVD and you will soon be drifting off and checking your email while the characters sit in rooms talking. The plot is almost literally non-existent (apart from 'ex-sailor gets involved in religious cult') but really... it gets more and more boring as it goes on and the ending is very very lacklustre. It just sort of gives up. Almost as if there were no ideas. Style over substance. 90% of the film is people in rooms talking, about 8% Joaquin Phoenix's character swigging booze or looking perplexed, 2% action. ie some actual engaging movement on the screen. At no point do you really give a toss about the main characters and what happens to them, as aside from some moments where JP starts to get programmed by the cult, he's really not a likeable character in the least and the cult leader himself is shown as no more than a clever manipulator not really any kind of vulnerable human being.

you know in horror movies where some teens are out in the woods and they see a house with severed heads outside, and they say 'hey let's go in there and ask for help' and the whole audience groans and also rubs its hands and waits for the monster to come and chop the idiots to pieces? well sadly transfer that level of idiocy to space, and substitute scientists for teenagers, and you've got Prometheus. There are SO MANY holes and 'WTF???' moments. From people pointing at a totally vague cave painting and deciding it's an accurate star map and an invite from aliens zillions of miles away, to approaching an obviously mad space snake, and petting it, (guess what happens next)... to opening the spaceship door to totally bonkers monster men just for the hell of it... oh you get the idea. Enjoy it, but for lords sake, don't take it seriously.

This is almost a great film. Almost. The action sequences are pretty amazing, for so many super heros all in one film it hangs together very well, and there are a couple of genuinely funny lines and moments of drama. but it's still popcorn and the plot relies on unbelievable moments (even for super heros) and some annoying things like the hulks new found self-control. but, bearing in mind how trite capn america was, and the expensive but kinda unfulfilling thor... this coud have been rubbish, but is I reckon the second-best recent mainstream super hero movie, coming in behind the dark knight.

This movie has so much mad technology and crazy stuff going on, and tom cruise is such a super action man, with enough world weariness to be convincing, and some other bloke in it is kick ass, etc, etc, how come I can't remember any of the dialogue and only vaguely a couple of action sequences? It's so overproduced it is basically forgettable, and as such.... well, it is just not really at all involving. if you've got a tv the size of your wall you'll like a couple of scenes, otherwise you'll get much more fun out of a video game for an hour or so..

For those of you who read the book - it's a good take on the story as it doesn't follow the same structure, but obviously the ending is more or less the same. The main actors are all very good indeed, and it is bleak and disturbing . You might not like some of the characters etc, and I have seen people moaning on here, but compared to most movies this one has real impact and power. And it seems the meddling execs who tend to mess up most movies are pretty much absent.
