I will not rate this game based on what might happen, but rather for what it is, which is a fantastic kart racer, maybe even the best ever made.

Absolutely a better game than I was expecting. The story is better, the characters are better, the things you can spend your time on are far more engaging, and it is just a better game than I ever could have predicted. I do wish it didn't lag at some of the points where it does, but it's clear that that beyond that one fault, there really isn't anything wrong with the game, yet alone bad about it.

Yo-kai Watch 39
Mar 13, 2019
Clearly this is best game in the Yokai Watch series. There's tons more to do, a much longer and more involved story, more places to explore than ever before, it's really amazing how much they managed to pack into a 3DS cartridge. There are hundreds of hours of content in the game, and it's actually somewhat challenging at times, which is nice. The newly added combat system, along with all the other options is staggering but in the best way possible and it's easy to adjust to the changes if you played previous games. Most of the new Yo-kai are also really well designed and named. It's just a fun game on a system that appears to be on it's last legs, but is going out with a bang. Yokai Watch 3 is a must by even if you haven't played the previous games, simply because all of it's content will engross you to play it.

I will say, the one thing that keeps this game from being a perfect 10 for me is that like always, Dante's gameplay is a huge cut above the other playable characters, meaning playing as anyone but Dante, feels like you aren't having as much fun as could with the game. That said, everything else is perfect. The voice acting, perfect, the visuals and music, perfect, the way every other piece of cannon DMC content, perfect, the story, perfect. The game is nearly flawless, it's just that playing as V and Nero isn't as fun as Dante, and I wish it wasn't like that. That said, DMC V ultimately is the best game in the series, and if you're a fan who has not played it yet, you should fix that.

Kingdom Hearts III10
Jan 29, 2019
Great game, but clearly needs a little bit of work for some it's commands, and for that matter, the various different triangle commands are too rampant and sometimes get in the way of other things the triangle button is used for. However, the attractions, keyblade forms, and team attacks are all a lot of fun to use so I can't call them bad or anything. I heard some people don't like the game because it's easy, but in the end, what really matters, is if it's fun, and Kingdom Hearts III certainly is. The story is also really good, and the other side events are also a lot of fun. I wouldn't say the game is completely perfect, but the problems it has are totally overwritten by the good story, great gameplay, and everything else. KHIII is game of the year so far, no doubt.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy6
Nov 15, 2018
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is only about average because it's controls, changed sensitivity, altered hitboxes and extra invisible walls among other things make the game unfriendly for people who originally played the trilogy back in the late 90's, or who have gotten familiar with it since then. In fact I'd say the more you know the original's, the more you are going to run into problems here. It's one thing to make a game more modern, it's another thing entirely to alter so many little things about it that the entire experience is unfamiliar to it's original fanbase, and that's what this game is. It's sad, and insulting to old fans.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider0
Oct 22, 2018
Regardless of the controversy about this game going on, it is just laughably bad. It tries too much to borrow elements from Uncharted, which is annoying because Uncharted originally borrowed elements from the original Tom Raider and it wouldn't have to be that way. Another big issue is that this game plays too much like the last two, because it's the Crystal Dynamics way. The formula seems be, reboot Tomb Raider, use as many elements from that new reboot in the next game as is possible, repeat until people stop buying the game as the expected rate, and reboot it again, then repeat the whole process over. Lara deserves better, people like myself who have been fans of Tomb Raider for the last 22 years deserve better, and Crystal Dynamics isn't interested in giving us that. Finally, the game's story is boring, the acting is stiff, the characters are boring, uninteresting, and pretty much the same as they've always been, and it's hard to sit through. I ended up watching most of the game get played because it bothered me so much. Also, the puzzles are the worst in the series as well. This game simply put, is just bad, but mostly, it's disappointing.

Mega Man 117
Oct 5, 2018
The game is okay, but it's not the best game in the Mega Man Classic style. For starters it controls too much like those games, despite the fact that controls have improved greatly since then, yet at the same time it has moments in it's stages that are very much like Mega Man X, which is fine, but a little jarring given the differences between the two series. The stages themselves are mostly fantastic, but Bounce Man's is unbearably annoying to get used to and the controls making it even worse. The story is okay, but the voice acting is abysmal, like Mighty No. 9 bad at times, to the point where you wonder why they had it in the first place, and it just doesn't work as well as it should. If anything, a Mega Man Classic game in this style is fine, but it's also a reminder that we need to move on from that style a bit, because it's very nature in this day and age means it's going to be lacking in some regards. Releasing a Mega Man Classic style as an occasional side project is fine, but I'd rather have a game in the X, Mega Man Zero, or Legends style nay day of the week. Still, for it's shortcomings and frustrations, this game can be a ton of fun, and that's the main point of any game, to be enjoyable. I just, think I would have enjoyed it more if it were called Mega Man X9 or god forbid, Mega Man Legends 3.

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom5
Oct 5, 2018
This game is nowhere near as good as the first one. I know people are going to hate me for saying that, but it has problems none of the Level-5 games I've played has. The characters don't have enough focus, the main antagonist is probably the worst one Level 5 ever had in any their games, and no, the last bit at the end does not redeem him enough to make it worth it. Level-5 is usually great at these things, but the pacing, the story and everything else are far below the standards I have for a game made by this company. Ni No Kuni II is the worst Level-5 game I have ever played, and it's Bandai Namco's fault, because all the problems i have are for sure things you'd see in a Bandai Namco game, but not a Level-5 one. The game does look great, and the music and acting are fantastic, provided the music isn't using tracks from the first game, which is does often enough that you notice it, and they often just don't fit. I had hoped Ni No Kuni II would my favorite RPG of the year so far, but I'd rather the play the ones I've bought so far this year on my 3DS. Level-5 is better than this game, and it saddens me to see them release a game like this that is so far below their standard of quality, especially since it doesn't feel like it's their fault. I'm sure people are going to hate me for giving this game a bad score, but I can't help it, it's just not what it should be.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age10
Oct 5, 2018
The only real problem I can think of for this game is the town music you'll hear again and again, which prevents some of them from having a much needed identity, plus because it plays so often, it does become the most annoying track in the game, but also the only one that's ever really a problem. The rest of the music, the gameplay, the story, the characters, all of it is perfect. Dragon Quest XI is also without a doubt the best game on the PS4 this year, and the best RPG of the year as well, especially after Ni No Kuni II failed to reach it's lofty expectations. But even without that comparison, DQXI is the best RPG we've had in years, and without a doubt the best Dragon Quest game we've had since DQVIII's original release on the PS2. Level 5 changed the way we view Dragon Quest back then, and Square has proudly and effectively, improved upon that formula since those days. Dragon Quest XI is not only the best RPG of the year, it is the best game in the Dragon Quest franchise, and proves that there's plenty of life in this series yet.

Marvel's Spider-Man9
Sep 16, 2018
It's a great title for sure, there's a reason in fact that I decided to clear out all the missions on the map, and it's because the game is just that fun. However, Spider-Man fails to have an identity in it's combat, which is something you'll be doing a lot, even more so if you are clearing out all it's missions. If you've played the Arkham games like many have, you will notice little difference in combat between them and Spider-Man and while that's not a horrible thing because the combat is great, it does feel like Insomniac chose to take a shortcut in that regard. Still, the visuals, the art style, the story, the events you play through as other characters, and the amount of Spider-Man villains is perfect. Spider-Man games and movies in the past have struggled with balancing out how many of the Wall-crawler's rouge's gallery should appear, and how large their roles should be, but Marvel's Spider-Man has no such issue. Swinging around in the game is fun and Yuri Lowenthal's past experience playing Spider-Man in really paid off here as this is the most believable portrayal of the character since the 90's cartoon so many people who are playing this game grew up with. I can't say the game is perfect, but it is the best game on PS4 this year. Possibly.

Yo-kai Watch Blasters: Red Cat Corps4
Sep 16, 2018
I was going to rate this game favorably. The story is basic, the combat is basic, but the fact that it's hard can be fun, until you get into the post game. At that point your AI allies become useless, you can't get enough Oni orbs to level anyone up without grinding for hours on your own, and trying to battle with people online is mess. If you are too low compared to others ranks, you get booted almost right away, and when you get in a room with people in a similar rank, they try to do missions they can't accomplish, and so you end up wasting time. The post-game content is easily the most inaccessible in the series so far, and the fact that there is such a huge climb to try and get to it, ruins the entire experience, which is already average anyways. There should have been a way to get enough Oni orbs through QR codes, passwords or anything, but pretty much all you get are coins. The grind ends up feeling like a mobile game kind of grind, without the option to speed it up. It's not fun, at all.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux10
May 17, 2018
Atlus has always been incredible at making games that far better than their sales would have you believe, and this remake, despite not being their first of the year, is a clear and concise example of why that is. Having never played the original, but rather watching it be played online, I could instantly see where the improvements were, which is the best indication that Atlus really put their all into making this game work, and work better than ever. The high quality music helps set the atmosphere, the fantastic voice work makes it feel as real as it can, and the setting that the Shin Megami Tensei games are known for is at work here almost better than ever. There's something special about SMT that makes it so unique that no one can quite imitate. I love every second of this game. If you've ever enjoyed a good dungeon crawler, not playing this game is a huge missed opportunity. It's simply fantastic in a way that only Shin Megami Tensei can be, and easily earns a perfect score.

God of War8
Apr 22, 2018
It's a mostly fantastic game. The music is great, the visuals are the most astounding thing I've ever seen on a PS4, the deep dive into Norse Mythology is something I can really get into, and the story, despite flowing at a snail's pace sometime is extremely good. However, what keeps me from giving the game a perfect score are two small issues. The combat, even though it's fun, is nothing outstanding and can sometimes get old, and what gets really old is the constant puzzles. I normally don't have a problem with puzzles but certain areas of the game sometimes literally have 2 or 3 puzzles in them, and then you go into the next room, and have two or three more. Most of these puzzles are not difficult, but most of them are also the same thing again, and again, and again, and again, and that gets boring and feels more like a weak way to break up combat and story rather than having a point. Overdoing anything can be a problem, but when you are constantly slogging along because puzzles keep slowing you down, it becomes a problem. It's an amazing game otherwise, but the parts that annoy me are just too much to ignore. The next God of War game that we've been hearing is coming, better tone the puzzles down a bit or I'm done.

Knack2
Mar 8, 2018
This game is an absolute mess. It's not always easy to tell where you are, the camera works against you far more often than it should, and despite gaining more health the bigger Knack grows, you take more damage, so the extra health isn't really extra health so much as it is a way to increase your attacks damage, while making you feel weaker. The story is also laughably bad, and I refuse to call the doctor character, The Doctor, because that's insulting to any Whovian past or present. The combat is also horrible as all hell as all Knack can do when fighting is punch, and use supers, of which only one super is really useful. The acting is also horrible, and don't inform characters enough. The game is simply bad. However, because it works, and because I have played worse, I can give it a 2/10, but no more. This game was free this month for PS Plus members, which is why I got it in the first place, but even if price affected my choices, I would still say don't bother. The game is horrible in just about every way possible. Games on PSone play better.

An absolutely perfect game in every possible way. It's simple looking but beautiful, it's engaging, it's got a great story, and the characters in it are all amazing. The only thing that may be better than all of that is the soundtrack. If you ever have a chance, buy this game, enjoy it, let others know about it, because the fact that it wasn't even in the running for Indie game of the year last year is criminal. Best 2D DBZ fighting game since Budokai 3, and the best original story any DBZ game has ever had. Everything that a fighting game should have is here, and like many have said, the visuals are astounding. It was incredibly smart to allow a true fighting game company make this title, and it really shows how dedicated they were to the project. That said, there are some things missing, like push guards, which would make some moves a lot less OP and allow for better counters. There's also some balancing issues that should not be there for a completed game. Hopefully those will get fixed soon.

Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online4
Feb 24, 2018
This game is bad. There's no two ways about, it's the worst in the entire series. It's not a good starting point for anyone either. The point of the game is obviously to make fun of SAO, and it gets two point for that, but the other two points only come because the game actually looks pretty good and it functions, because no game that functions deserves a zero. If I did believe that, this game would be a three, because it's just awful. The gameplay is more simple than any of the other action rpgs in the series, and the online servers are total garbage. The lag makes them entirely unplayable. I platinumed this game, but it's one of those where I almost feel guilty about it, because it's so easy to get it, it's hardly worth it. The game is also incredibly short, like shorter than any SAO game I've ever played. I got the platinum in four days and about 25 hours of gameplay. It's really that easy, as is the rest of the game. If the game was meant to be terrible, that would be one thing, but no game should try so hard to be meta that it actually makes the game worse for anyone who buys it, and that's exactly what this game is. I got it for 20 dollars on sale, and I still don't think it's worth it.

Not a great game, but Kait Diaz makes the whole thing worth it. She is a great character the likes of which only Dom can compete with. That said, the main protag is bland, and Marcus isn't allowed to be the best he can be because he's not the focus. There also an obvious attempt to cash in on some nostalgia at the end for no real reason. With all that out of the way though, the gameplay is better than ever, and it makes the game at least fun, even if only one new character is worth anything. Hopefully Gears 5 will be announced this year and come out next year at the latest, and the characters will be fixed. Gears original trilogy got better with time, hopefully this one will as well.

The visual style, the story, the fighting, all the other mechanics, and even all the smart references are great. There's not really anything wrong with the game at all save for one puzzle that drove me crazy for hours. I'd give it a perfect rating if I thought it was the best 3DS game ever, but it's not, it's just extremely close, and worth playing even if you aren't an SMT fan. Play it, it's worth every penny.

My least favorite KH game to date, and I mean by far. The story is so basic that only the last few hours matter, the worlds are mostly annoying, the 3DS' controls do not work well with Kingdom Hearts, unlike they did with the PSP, and probably would have with the Vita where this game should have been. But even with the control problems, the fact that the game can be so difficult just in general, especially during the parts that matter, is frustrating, and the drop system is the worst idea Square ever came up with. I'm glad they fixed it with the PS4 version, but that doesn't excuse this game at all. It should have either never been made, or made for a Sony system where the controls actually work.

They managed to take the rather complicated topic of time travel and make a great game out of it, but those few characters that aren't that great prevent the game from being perfect, and sometimes part of the story is a little confusing. Other than that, everything is great, and if you didn't play it back when it released, you should try and find it. It's a great title.

It's not a perfect game. For starters, the fact that it has a story but no one has an actual name, can be pretty distracting and more than a little jarring, especially when a character introduces themselves without using an actual name. It's also really hard to understand when the story ends, because it feels at one point like there's a climax to it, but it just keeps going for some reason. That said, MHW has the best gameplay of any game in this series to date, and the environments in it are a fresh change for the series as a whole. There's a reason it's sold as many units as it has, and that's because it deserves it. It's not a perfect game, but it's the best in it's series in almost every way, that's exciting.

The visuals, the gameplay, the characters, and that rare cut-scene where the game looks like a current generation home console title are all great, highly memorable and make the game worth playing until you see all it has to offer, and thankfully there's a lot there.
