Dungeon Defenders: First Wave10
Mar 25, 2011
Randomly generated loot, good looking and diverse levels. Lots of differing elements to the strategy. Lots of promise for the future. This game will really take off once Trendy releases the PC and PS3 versions. This game is also available for Android and will feature cross play between Android, iOS, PC and PS3. Not bad, all things considered. It's also going to serve as the catalyst for an up and coming PVP game. Also, tons of DLC promised. Provided it all coalesces, Dungeon Defenders might actually turn into a pretty big thing. I encourage you to check out the forums. But for 99c, this game is without a doubt a must-have. You will enjoy it.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together10
Mar 25, 2011
If you have been waiting since Final Fantasy Tactics for the next-thing and have been disappointed by everything released since then (including Disgaea and Agarest), your wait is over. Tactics Ogre for PSP literally picks up where FFT left off and is without a doubt the spiritual successor. Again, if all the tactical/strategy RPGs out lately have been total let downs for you, this is the game you've been waiting for. This game also has the added bonus of not being polluted with schoolyard scenes and juvenile themes to appeal to a younger crowd. This is a game you can play without feeling like a total molester.

Yet more proof of how much of a stale cash grab FPS games are. This game reminds me of Dr. Rockso the Rock n' Roll Clown. Bulletstorm is just another shooter trying to differentiate itself by trying to seem edgy. Instead, it ends up being corny and kind of embarrassing. The question is never about graphics. The real question is how does this game differentiate itself from other shooters? What features does it offer that haven't couldn't just be a clever mod for Quake 2?
The answer: Nothing really. Story doesn't make up for putting a month of modelling effort into some new guns and terrain. This stuff is cheap to produce. It's the complex and innovative rules and game mechanics that push the envelope. Something Bulletstorm doesn't even come close to doing with it's messy hair and only-big-boys-can-act-bad (for kids) attitude. This game isn't very good, I feel weird listening to the dialogue and the action is over the top in such a way that it's bad.

Free to play games always win a place in my heart as a special effort. These games attempt to break the flawed model of black-box games, allowing people to see what they're getting into. With so many bad games out there nowadays, this is a great way to win customers. League of Legends is a shining example of how this model works - and works well. If you make a good game as a result, you will be generously compensated for it. The core game of MTG:T is very well conceived and implemented. Where it breaks down completely is in the pricing and in taking the opportunity to innovate. Micro-transaction games are awesome, but their current cost for boosters and booster boxes is a blatant cash grab and prohibitively expensive. I think there should have been some kind of persistent element to your creatures, spells and items in the game. So that between matches, they can grow. Each "card" at that point becomes a unique creature with stats that improve the more you use that specific card. That would also compliment the micro-transaction concept by allowing you to purchase improvements for them between games. Lots of missed opportunities. Will they take them?

Captivating and extremely well conceived title. Free to play but almost immediately merits some kind of compensation. It won't be long before you are wanting to pay Riot Games for their effort and thankfully, their micro-transaction store is second to none.
Lots of different ways to customize your game with Runes and Masteries, loads of heroes with new ones added almost weekly. I'v been waiting a long time for a game like this.
