Macbat 64: Journey of a Nice Chap

Short and sweet. I see myself replaying this from time to time, adding to it's (short) longevity. It does a perfect job at recreating the N64 aesthetic, resolution and interlaced image aside. It has a lot of references to late 90s games and movies that made me smile. Almost every level in the game represents a different N64 game, from the obvious Super Mario 64, to DK64, Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart, Kirby, etc. The music is also pretty good. Also, when you beat the game, you unlock Siactro's previous game, Kiwi 64. Honestly, MacBat 64 is pretty good for what it is, and it being short can be a positive if you have less time to play or like to replay games. The best title from Siactro and maybe, their only title worth glancing at though, honestly.

The first real Pokémon adventure on a home console! And it's great! Aside from the gen 1 and gen 2 Pokémon models being reused from Pokémon Stadium and Stadium 2. But the Pokémon gameplay you know and love is all here. Wild Pokémon have been replaced with stealing SOME Pokémon from your oponents. Those Pokémon are actually a new mechanic called Shadow Pokémon. The evil organisation creates them for their master plan. It's up to you to steal, or snag, like the game says, them from trainers in order to pufiry and save them. Your main character this time around is also not your average 11 years old. Rather, you have a slightly older protagonist who used to be part of Team Snagem (separate from the game's main villains). The game even starts up with the protagonist stealing the Snag Machine from Team Snagem and, escaping from their hideout, jump on his motorcycles as the grunts and their bosses pursues him and blows up the hideout! This game, in overall, has a much mature tone and a steampunk feeling I greatly appreciate. Graphics could've been better since it's GameCube but the art direction is pretty good. The music is awesome as well. I still hum it, all these years later! In overall, a great game any Pokémon or RPG fan will enjoy. The only downsides are the graphics and the limited number of Pokémon you can choose from (you can actually trade with the GBA game to then use any Pokémon but only after a long time in the game). I highly reccomend it. This is an underrated gem!

A big map doesn't make a better game. Uninteresting, bland and boring. Doesn't deserve any of it's perfect scores. Heck, doesn't deserve more than a 6 if you stretch it a lot. The controls are just as bad as the "story" and visuals. The character feels heavy and moves so slow. Feels clunky. Sound was also uninteresting. Nothing sticks to mind. So, a very below average game that was overhyped by possibly one of the most toxic fanbases there are. This kind of game needs to stop being produced.

Generic medieval music in Zelda?! The graphics might be good for DS and the overwold maps huge also for this system but the frames drop around 10 FPS if not lower when there are 2 or more ennemies on the screen on the overworld. The gameplay would feel good though...except the freakin' flute ruins it all. Not matter how you play, it never seems to register. After a while of doing exactly the same thing, the game decides that thing you did that wasn't good enough suddenly is. Basically, you need to quickly play your partition in rythm. No DS or 3DS mic is good enough to ask the level of precision they're asking. Sometimes, I just blow in the mic but it registers as puffs. Easily my least favourite Zelda game because of that dang flute alone. The train is also kind of dumb. Early in the game, the tracks disapear. The characters need to reach a destination NO MATTER WHAT. But there aren't any tracks! How could they possibly ever get there?! Idk, what about....WALKING?| Crazy idea, I know, right? It's not like other incarnations of the Hero ever did that. I LOVED Phantom Hourglass, to death! But Spirit ****. I tried to love, even only like this game since I'm a huge Zelda fan, but this one, I cannot recommend. It's mechanics are both dumb and broken. The cutscenes were really nice though, I gotta give it credit for that. Felt like watching anime with DS graphics. But that's it, nicely animated cutscenes and (I know I ranted about the generic medieval music, and yes, that IS lame) but there are also pretty good tunes in there also. Overall, a poorly executed idea. I get what they were going for, but it just doesn't work very well.

Phantom Hourglass is the best exemple of what the DS can do. Graphically, it's just what you'd expect The Wind Waker would have looked like if it came out one generation prior to the GameCube. The controls are perfect, and I mean, PERFECT. Everything responds with such precision to your own movements that if you fail at doing something, it's always your fault, not the game's. The story is captivating and the characters lovable. The soundtrack is also stellar, alway pumps me up for whatever task is required of me. This is easily my favourite Nintendo DS game, although it can be a bit easy at times. People usually complain about that one dungeon you need to go back to several times, but each time you go there, you can clear it's floors much faster than the previous time, granted you use your brain and items effectively. Which reminds me, the items, the selection is also pretty good this time around. Now, navigating the sea. I think it's a little better than in TWW since it's smaller and more ennemies appear, keeping you busier. Since your boat this time has an engine too, you don't need to change the wind's direction all the time. There are several unique ilsands to explore, many optional. You can focus on the story and beat the game relatively quickly but exploration is so much fun in this game and rewarding. Anyone who loves Zelda and/OR the DS should at least give this game a try, it's truly a work of art.

One of the most technically impressive PS4 titles. The gameplay is also as solid as the graphics. The sound direction is also just as good. The story is intriguing and will keep you wondering what comes next. The problem is though, is that the game feels unfinished. Not only can you finish it in about 5 hours, but the game ends at what I thought was the halfway point. There is no ending. It's as if you turned off your TV just halfway through a movie without bothering to finish it. What is there is GREAT, but it really feels like they didn't have the time to even finish the campaign (which it the only mode in the game).

Bought this in December 2021. Did I like it although it's so old now? Heck yes! I'm not even a FPS guy but this game kicks butt! The graphics are incredible, pretty much on par with early PS2. The music is thrilling, the story, although a bit simple, does the job (still got me surprised near the halfway point since I jumped in blind though). The controls are what might put some people off since it only uses a single joystick but I found them really good. The game was made with the N64 controller in mind and it shows! They were pretty spot-on as well as the rest of the game. The game is also fully voice acted, which adds to the immersion. It's a little on the short side but it's highly re-playable. I beat it on Agent difficulty and am not bored of the game yet so I'm off for another go on the higher difficulty! The Multiplayer is also really nice. I only tried it with computers (or Simulants like the game calls them) and even then, it was a blast! I cannot recommend this game enough! A real must play!

It's Guitar Hero, on the DS! Not much else you need to know! It works very well, just as good as the console versions. Although you have only 4 keys this time so veterans may find it a little easy. The music selection is pretty good. 25 songs plus a hidden unlockable song which are all very good in my opinion. Songs from the 70's, 80's, 90's and the 00's. You will be served no matter your preference. New additions to the gameplay using the DS' features are all in the "Battle" mode. Some attacks your oponent sends you can have you blow in the microphone to extinguised the fire on your **** or rapidly sign a fan's t-shirt blocking your cords, which is honestly pretty neat. I would have given it a 9 out of 10 but the game IS painful on longer periods of play since you hold the whole thing with one wrist but the time you spend playing it (recommend shorter sessions), is a real blast!

I gave it 1 for presentation but 0 for everything else. The graphics are good for an early Wii game and the sound quality is even better. The story is kind of nice. It was fun to discover who each of the classic Sonic character would portray. BUT, the gameplay is almost as bad as Superman on the N64. It's irresponsive. Sometimes, a ring would be right in front of me and I'll struggle just to grab it as Sonic wiggles around. You also now need to charge up before you jump, which kills the momentum and make precise platforming more difficult for no valid reason. So yeah, a game that would have been better as a movie, but as a game, it fails miserably. A good presentation means nothing if the gameplay is garbage, which is the case here. I can't even suggest it to hardcore Sonic fans. A game that's better watched than played.

I can't stand this game. Anyone giving this more than a 4 is goddamn insane. The game is gorgeous, some of the best graphics of any gen 6 games. But that doesn't mean anything when the gameplay is so terrible. The Dark World, which is half of the world, literraly hurts you. You'll see yourself run from one secure light source to the next, trying to figure out where to go at the same time. Since the world itself hurts you, you'll also spend nearly 5 minutes waiting in each light source you come accross to restore your health. So, walk for 1 minute, stand still for 5, rinse and repeat. The game might have been good it not for the Dark World but it ruins the game. Please Metroid, stop trying to be Zelda, you really fail at it. Ennemies also take forever to kill. Not that they pose a threat. They're all so predictable and easy to dodge. But they have so many HPs they take forever to die. I know you get light ammo to kill ennemies faster (which you need to replenish...seriously, replenishing BEAM AMMO in Metroid?! What were they thinking?!) and a light armor, which prevents you from losing life energy in the Dark World. But you get the armor near the end of the very long and boring game. I never could endure the game long enough to reach it, not once in the 3 tries I gave it over the years. Also, I know backtracing is an issue in most Metroid games but this world basically having 2 duplicate maps just makes it so much worse. Seriously, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 3 and yes, even Metroid Prime: Hunters on the DS are all masterpieces in my book. But Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is the black sheep of the series. One that seems to be there just to remind you of how amazing the other 3 are. Here's hoping that Prime 4 will not be like this one.

Perfect for masochists who cannot get a partner but own a PS4. 10/10 for masochists. As for everyone else, what you will find here is a bland, boring experience. PS3 level graphics, uninspired audio, an incredibly small variety of ennemies and absolutely 0 originality. Team Ninja simply threw a LITTLE bit of japanese folklore into Dark Souls. There really is nothing to see here. And that's without even mentionning the BS difficulty too. This game is a grind fest. Ennemies all have stats miles above yours. That's it. That's the difficulty. There is no getting good here, just getting better stats to raise your chances of victory, dodging the same repetitive ennemy attacks over and over. At some point, you get bored, you lose focus, you get hit twice and you die. You then repawn at a shrine. Doesn't sound too bad, right? Well, think again, because when you die, you lose ALL of the EXP you gained. You have to spend it at the shrines to raise 1 stat at a time by ONE. Die before you spend your exp, lose it. So, it could have redeemed itself by being a cool grinding game in which you see your character getting stronger and stronger, but it fails at that too. Really, there's nothing here. Well, unless you're a lonely masochist. Have fun, masochists!

The job system is very cool as it lets you customise your character and build the party you want and think up strategies with how in character help one another. The Brave/Default system though is just game breaking. It's dumb. The usual Final Fantasy "Defend" command now gives you an extra turn to move later and the Brave command lets you use up to 4 turns st the same time. Simply broken. The story. Amnesia, girl who slowly realises she's wrong, 4 crystals of the elements. You played any Final Fantasy prior to 7? You've played this game basically. I know it's a throw back, but honestly, I'd rather go back to the old school Final Fantasy for the 3rd or 4th time again than play Bravely Default, it won't be as repetitive. And here is the game's bigges problem. Basically, the game takes about 15 hours to beat but...MINOR SPOILER HERE ALTHOUGH IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING!!! OK, so you finally awaken the last crystal, you've done it! Well, something happens and without saying too much, the world is reset. You need to redo what was the 1st half of the game 8 MORE TIMES to finally see the ending, which is nothing even good. 8 MORE times you'll need to go through the bosses with very little change in dialogue. They basically make you play the game 9 times to see the ending. RPGs are repetitive and it's something I accept from my favourite game genre. But this is absolutely ridiculous. The plot twist is not even shocking. You see it coming very early on. This game is just not worth your time. Repetitive and mediocre. If you want a game like this though with a deep job system, I highly recommend Final Fantasy 3 (DS version) or Final Fantasy 5, any version. Bravely Default was made by the same team and uses the same artstyle as FF3 DS (sole reason I boughy BD) but do yourself a favor, go play FF3 DS instead. You'll thank me and yourself later.

That's it. Half of the Paper Mario series is made of gems. The other is what I like to call the Sticker Star trilogy. Every game since Sticker Star has been gimicky and stripped of every RPG element except for turn-based combat. I give it 1 point for it's beautiful graphics, another for it's decent soundtrack and 2 more for it's writing. This game, if nothing else, is absolutely hilarious. They kKIMD OF brougjt back partners but they only follow you for a limited time and have generic names such as Bob-Omb (RIP Bombette and Admiral Bobbery). You cannot control tjem in battle either. They attack but often fail without any player input. Ok so the writing's good but what about the gameplau? Battles are unnecessary. They are gimicky beyond belief. You have to line up enemies in a row before attacking. It goes front brain damaged stupid easy to nearly impossoble to figure out on a timer before you know it. Most people I know, myself included, just skip as many of them as possible. You don't get any EXP from defeating enemies so there's really no point to bother. Like you partners, every NPC is generic. Most of them are Toads and Shy Guys with some other of Bowser's minions thrown into the mix. There is absolutely no originality whatsoever like Paper Mario, The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario had in their character design. The only original characters are Olly (the main villain, at least it's not Bowser this time) and his sister and Mario's partner, Olivia. Olivia is by far the best part of the game. She herself has more charm than the rest of the "Sticker Star" trilogy combined. All in all, the game is a treat for the eyes and a good read (yeah, no voice acting, like we're still in 1999) but certainly not a fun game to play. I highly recommend wathing a let's play on YouTube rather than playing it. Unlike the 1st 3 games in the series, nothing compels me to try to complete the game as much as possible or even replay it.

This game is an overrated piece of garbage. There, I said it. It's basically an MMORPG without MMO elements. Oh, a usual JRPG then you'll say! No, it really feels more like an MMORPG, just offline. 99% of the game is boring sidequests that have nothing to do with the main story but that you NEED to do in order to become stronger to beat the bosses. Also, Shulk is the only character able to inflict damage to the Mekons, the main ennemies of the game, making every other party member practically useless, unless you're hunting bees or birds. Oh, and you have no control over the actions of your other 2 party members and the AI ****. All you can do is HOPE they'll heal you or try to get the ennemy's attention so Shulk can attack. I don't get the praise this game gets. I gave it a real try but stopped after 73 hours. I told myself I'd finish it no matter what but it was a supplice. Some bosses you cannot defeat unless you got a very specific Monado Art (attack or spells, as they are called in other, better RPGs), and those "Arts" you get from random sidequests, ONE random sidequest hidden amongst hundreds. And it's not necessarily the 1st one the NPC gives you, it can be the 2nd, 3rd or 10th! There is such a thing as too much content, and this game is the proof of it. The music is really good though, so go get the OST, but skip the game. I just saved you several days of your life, days that can be spent in an infinite number of better ways. JRPG fans, this is not your usual JRPG either. As stated above, it's much closer than what you would expect of an MMO or even a WRPG, so really, don't bother. Go play Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Pokémon, Chrono Trigger or any of the Mario RPGs instead, you'll have a much better, fun and rewarding time.
