Only the Brave10
Feb 19, 2018
I am so upset that this film got no recognition. This is a must see and one of the best films of the year. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie when you get the chance. The acting is solid, the writing is excellent and compelling, and the direction brings about a vast array of emotions that have you not only laughing, but crying because of truly caring for these characters.

Murder on the Orient Express7
Feb 19, 2018
I'm amazed at how much hate this film is getting. The fact that even Johnny Depp gives a good performance in this film tells you that this film is actually pretty good. I am very excited to see what Kenneth Branagh does with his franchise in the future.

The Boss Baby4
Feb 19, 2018
I mean it's fine for a kids **** how did this get nominated for an Oscar? The jokes are bland and the story is down right lazy...there are so many smarter films that could have been made with this same topic.

The Greatest Showman8
Feb 19, 2018
I have no idea why critics crapped all over this film. While the CGI at times is overused, unnecessary, and at times pretty bad, the music is solid and the performances are committed and enjoyable. It's great to see an attempt at a big modern original musical on the big screen.

Phantom Thread5
Feb 19, 2018
Overrated Oscar bait. Some solid lines and all around solid performances can't save this style over substance film. I am very sad if this is the last movie that Daniel Day-Lewis does in his career. He is usually so talented at picking his projects, but the script for this film confuses and drags for far too long.

The Cloverfield Paradox4
Feb 19, 2018
I wanted to love this movie so much. I was such a huge fan of the original Cloverfield and an even bigger fan of 10 Cloverfield Lane and unfortunately this film does not live up to those two. It is a Sci-Fi mess with bizarre storytelling and writing that would have been great in the hands of a better director. I am truly so upset that this movie was not what I wanted and hoped it to be.

Black Panther6
Feb 19, 2018
This movie is vastly overrated. Though the productions design and acting is solid, it doesn't make up for the terrible CGI and heavy handed political message. I really hoped the politics would just be in the commentary about the film, but sadly the film dives head first right into the discussion. I just want Hollywood to tell good stories without becoming over political hogwash...that would be so nice.

John Carter6

Not a great movie by any means and a few really rough performances. But there is something to be said for the grand scope and the pretty cool effects of the aliens. Would not recommend paying a whole lot for DVD/Blu-ray, but if you can find a copy for $5 or so you wouldn't be completely wasting your time. So much **** sadly that's all that remains for most of the film.

The Cabin in the Woods9
Feb 19, 2018
An excellent blend of comedy and thriller The Cabin in the Woods has redefined the horror film genre. I have heard many say that this is one of the best horror films in the last 10 years and I believe that they would be mostly right about that. My only critique of that is that the movie is not so much scary as it is clever and well written. As someone who does not really like horror films I was pleasantly surprised by this film. One can definitely see the influence of Joss Whedon in the writing. This will likely be in my Top 10 of the year and is worthy of much praise. "Am I on speaker phone?" Odin's Score: 90/100

Dark Shadows5
Feb 19, 2018
While I am a big fan of Johnny Depp's work and have always been fond of Tim Burton as a visual director, Dark Shadows fails to hit the mark on several levels. Weak writing and a uncertain direction keep this film from ever really taking off. While there are a couple of pretty funny moments in the film, they do not keep this movie afloat and make it worth the price of admission. Odin's Score: 55/100. Odin's issues: While I have made clear many of the issues that I have there is one moment at the end when I turned to my friend and a shared a mutual face palm moment...I am sure most of you know the moment that I **** is this horrible writing moment where the movie lost me completely.

The Avengers9
Feb 19, 2018
This is easily the best Marvel film to date, one of the best action movies of all time, the best effects we have yet to see, and a film that is worthy of a few Oscar nods (and a definite win for visual effects). Straightforward script, flawless acting, and smooth direction make The Avengers one of the best films of 2012. Odin Score: 95/100 (subject to change after a much needed second viewing).

War Horse7
Feb 19, 2018
Don't get me wrong...this is a solid film that holds to other films by Spielberg. War Horse also is beautifully shot and well crafted. The issues arise when looking at the acting and part of the writing. Jeremy Irvine (Albert) is not strong enough of an actor to carry the film throughout. While he has some really strong moments, he is still rather fresh and has a lot of room to grow. The supporting cast that surrounds Irvine is what helps keep the film together. The story itself is also something that bothered me a little bit. While I was pulled into the story and invested in Joey (the horse and the center of the story), it seems rather odd how someone Albert's age gets so attached to an animal so quickly. The story from the horse's perspective is done well, but one cannot ignore the fact that the story itself is odd because of it. Regardless of its issues War Horse deserves its spot as one of the best of the year.

Midnight in Paris9
Feb 19, 2018
One of the best movies of 2011. Woody once again writes a great story with a message that I personally could relate to a lot: a desire to live in another time. With a terrific ensemble cast with the likes of Owen Wilson, Tom Hiddleston, and Kathy Bates (just scratching the surface), Midnight in Paris will leave you content and proves to be another quality Woody Allen film.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close3
Feb 19, 2018
This film has a lot of great performances through out. That, however, is the only good thing I can say about it. The story is very odd and rather extreme. The only parts that really moved me were the ones dealing with 9/11. This was not because of good writing, but rather the use of a traumatic and sensitive event as a plot point. The character of Oskar was also an issue because they never establish any medical issue with him which makes his character crude and make little sense. I really see no reason why this film got a nomination for Best Picture.

The Guard8
Feb 19, 2018
This is a solid film in every aspect. With fun writing and great performances by Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle, The Guard will make you laugh and will make you glad you watched it.

The Tree of Life6
Feb 19, 2018
While this film is beautifully crafted and shot, it misses the mark in telling a coherent story. If you are looking for a very artistic and visually strong film, this film may appeal to your tastes. As someone who likes being able to follow the plot of a story, I cannot say Tree of Life accomplishes that
