Surgeon Simulator 20131
Aug 24, 2013
There's nothing funny or even fun about this game. I consider myself to have a great sense of humour, but when the whole "joke" of the game is about how impossibly terrible the controls are, I find myself angry that I don't even get real gameplay out of my $3. Amateur Surgeon did a great job of blending humour with fun, and I feel like this tried and failed to be a 3D version of that.

Sid Meier's Civilization V9
Mar 5, 2013
This is the first Civilization I've ever played, and I have so much fun with it. If you're not comparing it to any of the previous games, it's a great game. I do wish I could stack units like you apparently could in the old games, but on a Huge map, it isn't so much of an issue. Well worth the money spent.

Dynamite Jack8

It's fun, but the stealth aspect is a bit ruined by the **** bother avoiding enemies when you can just blow them up? Also, 28 levels is a bit short, but for a dollar, it's well worth it.

The Basement Collection8

Some of the games (Aether in particular, perhaps Triachnid as well) aren't quite games so much as they are interactive art of a kind. But 3 chapters of the original Meat Boy as well as Time Fkcu Spewer make this worth the paltry $2.99. Though they're all available as free flash games and though some of the games may slightly lag on older machines, the fact that they're all bundled nicely together with achievements included makes it well worth a download

Jeopardy! (2010)5
Feb 12, 2013
Okay, first off, it's Jeopardy!, so I really don't care much about graphics, which, even by the Wii's standards are pretty bad. Even if the graphics were Skyrim quality, however, there are other flaws that reduce this rating. Here they are: The Questions: 2,400+ seems like a lot of questions. In actuality, however, since a game consists of 2 rounds of 30 questions, you're going to go through those questions in less than 50 games, which is a pretty small amount. Two or three games a day means you've seen every question at least once within the first month; I saw two or three repeat questions on the second game I played, which makes it more of a memory game/race to hit the buzzer. The questions are varied and interesting, and they do range from easy to hard, so that's a plus, though the difficulty categorization can be a little off at times. It's almost like they sometimes expected adults to be playing this instead of kids. The Clues: I was very disappointed in the way the player answers the question. You can pick from three choices. That's it. Obviously it would be impossible to have the user type an answer and have the game search for key words or phrases, because if you've ever tried to search the Internet using the Wii, it takes nearly 5 minutes. So I was expecting multiple choice. However, a 33% chance (or 50% if you're the second player and 100% if you're the third) means you actually stand a pretty good chance of guessing at most of the questions, especially if you can eliminate a choice. There should be at least 6-10 choices offered to make the game even remotely a test of knowledge, but I guess you get what you pay for, which in this case is around $10-15. Gameplay basically consists of all players frantically tapping the A button as fast as possible in the hopes of buzzing in first. Summary: All in all, not an awful game. It's relatively inexpensive, so if your kid wants to play you in Jeopardy! and it's convenient to buy this game, it's not bad for a rainy day, which is the best thing to save it for. I mean it. Only pull this game out on days like that, because otherwise, the fun will quickly run out.

Braid9
Feb 12, 2013
Those who give this a low rating most likely haven't completed the first world. It's true that in the first few levels, the time-manipulation does nothing more than rewind the game. At first, it appears just to be a Mario spin-off that could have been a free online Flash game. However, as you get deeper into the game, you'll encounter objects (including enemies) that aren't affected by time, forcing you to prioritize the order you do things like obtain keys. On other levels, time is affected by the direction you move, forcing you to plan carefully. The reason I'm giving this only an 8/10 rather than 10/10 is because it's quite short in my opinion. The entire game and all its achievements can be completed in an hour or two. I got this on sale for $2.50 and I'm glad I didn't pay the full ten bucks, because although it's beautiful and innovative and all that, you could get a lesser but similar challenge over on any free games site.

Ravensword: The Fallen King8
Jan 1, 2013
For a late 2009 iOS game, Ravensword is pretty damn good, with an expansive world of ice, fire, and forest, bosses that are visually stunning (I'm looking at you, giant troll), and a not-too-shabby item list. This is one of the first (if not THE first) RPGs for mobile devices and even by modern-day standards, is still a decent game. If you're looking for better graphics and user experience, a sequel HAS BEEN RELEASED! (2012)

Kingdoms Live!8

This was the first text-based MMORPG I ever played on iOS and I haven't found a better one yet. The GUI is simple and comfortable to use, the graphics for the armour and weapons are brilliantly done, and the overall gameplay is as exciting as it can get, with a great community. The only problem I've ran into over the year-long journey to maxing my character was the people who would repeatedly farm you for gold during the lower levels. Storm8 never really solved that problem, but this game is well worth a try.

Army of Darkness Defense8

This is one of my favourite iOS games. It could do with a few more enemy types or upgrade options, but as it is, you're unlocking something new nearly every level, and the entertainment it provided me before I beat it two or three times was enough to warrant its download.

Age of Chivalry6
Jan 1, 2013
The medieval multiplayer hack-and-slash is something that's not often done, but I was pleased with this game. Age of Chivalry, besides being a bit dated, is not bad, but there are certain times when it gets glitchy or annoying (particularly aiming and firing with any kind of bow). I've had plenty of fun playing this game, but it's sometimes a bother to get knocked off a wall of something because one of your teammates wasn't paying attention to where they were going and crashed into you. All in all, pretty decent but I'd recommend getting the paid version (Chivalry: Medieval Warfare) because the developers actually update that one.

Order & Chaos Online9

This is one of two MMORPGs on mobile devices; the other being the inferior, downright cartoony Pocket Legends. It it disgusting that this game should have such a low User Score, and all because people can't get over the fact that it's similar to World of Warcraft. That's like bashing every platformer ever because they were all similar to Jumpman (original Mario) or every single RPG ever because they copied Zork or Rogue or whatever the first dungeon crawler even was. It's disappointing that this game has recently evolved into a P2W (pay to win) model. While it's not outrageously difficult to max your character's combat level, levelling crafting is another story entirely, which can take dozens of hours of gathering material just to be able to craft epic gear. Those who are wealthy in real life don't have this issue, as they can straight-up buy gold and epic gear from the "lucky wheel" or whatever it is. Mounts, something loyal players have been waiting for since the beginning can only be obtained with real money, unless you get lucky enough with a Bind Stone (5% chance of trapping a creature) which currently costs 1 gold (equivalent to $1). The fact that it's a F2P game with no areas or races needing to be bought more than makes up for this fact, and this is an MMO superior to many really bad PC ones.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim9
Jan 1, 2013
This is honestly the most epic game I've ever played. I went into this without having ever played an Elder Scrolls game, or even any 3D RPG outside WoW. Needless to say, I was more than impressed by its graphics, gameplay, character customization, and the fact that, true to their advertisements, what you do in the game actually does have an impact on the storyline. Like most people, I dislike the weight limit thing, but you can easily get around that but making your companion pick up everything (when done this way rather than through trading, they have an unlimited storage capacity). The only other thing that really kind of bothered me was the way enemies level up when you do. I know this is to keep the game challenging, but it also means you can't really experiment. For example, if you increase your one-handed weapon, archery, and magic skills by 10 each, the enemies will level up as if you had specialized in one skill and had gotten it up by 30. Being balanced in this game is a disadvantage, so if you're reading this and haven't played yet, pick a class that offers high bonuses in one area (I went with a dark elf because they have a good balance between melee and magic, but I now sincerely wish I'd gone with either Nord (melee) or High Elf (magic)). I personally have never used crafting or blacksmithing to enhance or make weapons, although I hear it's a pain to level that up. I've also only experience a few bugs, only one that was major (a quest where a guy was supposed to follow you, but wouldn't, so every 10 seconds you had to talk to him so he'd start following you again) but in a game of this magnitude, I'd take a whole nest of bugs if it meant playing this game. Overall, 9/10, though that's just because I've never found a perfect game. This, however is indeed the best I've played.
